Michelle obama's response to Donald trump

It should have been Hillary's comeback to Donald trump on the night of the debate, which didn't happen. I found Hillary's response trump not good enough.

Michelle did what Hillary should have done. I watched it with pride that she spoke the truth. However, I found myself cringing every time Hillary's name was me mentioned. Not because I don't like her but because of her husband.
If a woman watched the whole 26mins and still supported trump, then am sure you can't be saved.

I have just posted a link to this video too. Grin

My Dds love and admire Michelle which makes me proud as she is a woman every young woman should look upon as a role model. Imo

JustSpeakSense · 14/10/2016 21:36

Michelle for president!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 14/10/2016 22:37

Would this election be different for Hillary if she had dumped her husband then?

I think it would. I think he is a liability. And yes I know she is not accountable for his actions but that doesn't prevent every thread about Ched Evans asking why Natasha Massey has stuck with Evans. Why would a strong, independent woman like Clinton stick with Bill ?

FreshwaterSelkie · 15/10/2016 07:30

I luffs Michelle! That speech was absolute GOLD. I cried my eyes out.

Obama presidency again in 2020!

Lweji · 15/10/2016 07:32

I don't think she'd have gotten this far, sadly.
Or even become a senator.

aginghippy · 15/10/2016 08:06

Why would a strong, independent woman like Clinton stick with Bill?

Because he has money, power and connections. Lweji is right, if she had divorced, she wouldn't have had such a successful political career. HC has always been ambitious. It became a marriage of convenience.

Whatever MO does after leaving the white house, I'm sure it will be something political and worthwhile. There are lots of ways for her to use her skills, talents and fame. Elected office is only one possibility.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 15/10/2016 08:17

I dislike the institution of First Lady on feminist grounds but I too admire Mrs Obama. A very intelligent, articulate, elegant woman. I hope trump does not try to smear vileness over her as he has with other women who have challenged him. I would not like to see that. He is not fit to share the planet with her.

Very true. I'm hoping for public office, or at least public profile, because it lets us all carry on adoring her Grin

Michelle is so awesome. Her speech was amazing. It made me well up because what she was saying was so true, and she was so right, yet I have never heard anyone else on the world stage talk so directly about it.

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 15/10/2016 10:11

And me! She is amazing.

Elendon · 15/10/2016 10:50

I would suggest that this speech is one the the greatest political speeches of all time. She is an inspiration and she also gets inspiration from others, especially those deemed by some to be sub human. She is brilliant.

Elendon · 15/10/2016 10:53

"The measure of any society is how it treats its women and girls."

So true!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 15/10/2016 11:21

Wow!!! She is awesome!! I love Michelle. She summed up exactly how it feels to be demeaned as a woman just for being a woman.

Brokenbiscuit · 15/10/2016 11:27

She is fabulous.

BigChocFrenzy · 16/10/2016 02:39

Brilliant feminist speech from Michelle
She is such a fabulous role model for young feminists

BigChocFrenzy · 16/10/2016 03:09

Clinton is a dreadful candidate for the Democrats:
She's sleazy and supported her OH over the women he abused; she favours Wall St over ordinary people and is far too belligerent in the Middle East.

Her good points are that she'd appoint pro-choice Supreme Court judges .... and she's not Trump

it is incredible that even the Republicans could nominate someone so extreme, so full of hate for minorities and contempt for women.

He constantly shouts "Fire" in the crowded cinema.
He is openly appealing to racism and to those who like to harm & humiliate women.
The fascist Putin wants him as President and the Russian Secret Service have tried to swing the election to Trump.

Remember the slogan from the 2002 French Presidential elections (Chirac vs Le Pen):
"Vote for the crook, not the fascist"

BigChocFrenzy · 16/10/2016 03:11

I wish the 1st woman President could be someone as brilliantly talented and eloquently feminist as Michelle.

FabFiveFreddie · 16/10/2016 03:23

Thing is, I know so so so many women like Michelle Obama. Ordinary women: mums, colleagues, friends, bosses, sister. So many. It's taken till 2016 for a groundswell of women to voice support and adoration of someone like MO in such huge numbers. And nothing she has said is new (that's the whole point, it resonates with us all).

It feels like if DT has done one thing, it's to allow people like MO to say what they're saying and move an entire generation of girls and women along one huge step. I feel like our daughters will now grow up decrying out loud to their male peers all the things that girls of our generation just put up with. Because it's fucking obvious! They will be asking why the hell we put up with it for so long! And those same girls will influence their brothers and male friends, and then raise their sons the same way. Men like DT feel so old fashioned, history (although I know his attitudes will subsist for many many years to come in many places). But the tide is turning through his brazenness. Having a presidential candidate be so clueless about just what he's saying allows the obvious to be stated, and that's hugely unifying and very powerful.

Bue · 16/10/2016 04:17

I found the speech so powerful that it made me tear up at one point. MO, like her husband, is an amazing orator and a very charismatic person.

However I'm so tired of this constant refrain "is this the best choice that the USA can come up with?" Well on the Democratic side, yes it is the best choice! Is there a Democrat more qualified to be President than Hillary Clinton? She has the potential to be an excellent President. She is whip smart, has serious policy knowledge, has been Secretary of State, Senator and First Lady (which I'd argue does give you unique insight into the role) and she is by all accounts a bipartisan relationship- and consensus- builder.

There is also no way that HC could get away with making a speech like that. She would be SO heavily criticized for it. Besides, it's a rule of politics that when your opponent is hanging themselves with their own words you don't interfere, you just watch from the sidelines and let them self destruct. It seems to be working quite effectively for her at the moment.

Stitchfusion · 16/10/2016 04:53

I recall such feelings about Hillary back in the 90's.
MO is awesome.

HillaryFTW · 16/10/2016 08:43

Completely agree with Bue.

Lweji · 16/10/2016 09:47

And Hillary was put in her place early on in Bill's presidency when he wanted her to work on some social benefit work (can't remember which but I remember how the little wife should stick her butt out).
It seems that "the system" still doesn't like powerful women.

Bobochic · 16/10/2016 09:52

Michelle Obama is a superstar and a whole generation ahead of the Hilary Clinton brand of feminism, in which women had to ape men in order to succeed in public life. Michelle Obama is ushering in a new world in which women can be women without aping men, and be successful in public life.

Lweji · 16/10/2016 09:59

That is one problem of electing people who should be retired.
Still, I don't think the president needs to be the most forward thinking. Just as long as they are not completely backward thinking and blocking advances.

SenecaFalls · 16/10/2016 15:19

Michelle Obama is ushering in a new world in which women can be women without aping men, and be successful in public life.

Yes, but they are standing on the shoulders of Hillary and women of her generation.
