Transwoman Rugby player experienced severe bullying

I thought this was an interesting blog from a transwoman athlete and her experiences of bullying from team mates and opponents. I'm concerned about transwomen entereing female sports but there's not really much being said on it, or how the TW and women in sport really feel about it or what they think.

Self indulgent twaddle.

Still Spartacus.

scallopsrgreat · 26/09/2016 13:20

Well that's long and self-absorbed!

Spoilt, narcissistic, violent are a few words that spring to mind.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 26/09/2016 13:23

What a doofus.

From carolinelayt.tumblr.com/post/145950152842/when-a-player-on-the-other-team-looks-way-too-much

"Also, this post does nothing to respect those players who intend to have a specific aesthetic to their style or gender expression. All because a player participates on a women’s team, doesn’t mean that they actually identify with terms such as “female” or “woman,” but find their bodies better suited to participate within the category, based on a multitude of factors that are all very personal and are often biologically based."

I'm confused. Caroline seems to be simultaneously saying teams should be biologically based, and that trans women and trans men should be able to play on women's teams.

Is she? Help me out!

RiverTam · 26/09/2016 13:54

Haven't read it but Tumblr is trans-central, with honourable exceptions of course (Miranda and Helen's blogs, for eg).

I had a tumblr for fan reasons but I got a bit fed up of all this kind of shit popping up.

Reads like that to me. yet again a case of 'men' and 'not-men'

For the record, I think transmen should be on the womens team UNLESS they have been taking testosterone as treatment.

But surely the fair way here is that (given trans seems so prominent in sports at the moment) to have a whole other category for transmen and women part way/fully through transition? Would be fairer...transmen may have the extra testosterone but transwomen would generally have the frame of a man?

Those who simply dress up as the opposite sex, obviously play on the team their sex aligns with.

So sitting down on the loo makes you a woman? I must tell DH.

I just thought it made him civilised

Valanice1989 · 26/09/2016 20:39

I’d go as far to say that some TERFs possibly have penis envy? Quite possibly a few even secretly want to be male, but they don’t have the courage to be transgender, because you see transitioning is tough and expensive and it means turning your whole life upside down, with the risk of losing everything you hold dear, including your credibility and standing in society, your family and friends, your employment and the way others view you.

Oh, this is rich. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure that among adult transitioners, MtTs outnumber FtTs. So there's a disproportionate number of men who are obsessed with women's bodies to the point that they're willing to have hormone treatment, maybe even surgery, to emulate them... but we're the ones with penis envy?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 26/09/2016 21:19

I'm really bored of trans stuff too. Crikey. I wish they'd look in the mirror, check their underwear and recognize that, while it's great to be gender non-conforming, human beings can't change sex. Get on with their lives.

But no. We're seeing a constant stream of trans stories, both news and outright propaganda. Last week we had first (male) woman on the front line, attempted murder by a transwoman of a coach about to expose him for winning medals intended for female competitors alone. Oh, and another fucking "pregnant man." And the trans kid on Radio 4. Keeps on and on.

Let's be clear. I'm bored of the trans crap. I'm not bored of discussing the issues because it's gotta be done. It's high priority. The success of trans activists in crushing women's rights, our spaces, our sports - these issues are of relevance to all women. As for children and the young, the risks of this agenda are hard to over-estimate. If a dc of mine got sucked into this cult I'd be terrified.

Trans ideology and identities are popping up everywhere, and these threads will do the same. It's the spirit of the times and I feel an obligation to contest it in whatever way I can. Every time the news overflows with more trans bollocks more women reach peak trans. Eventually a tipping point will be reached.

But it is pretty boring fighting the same battles again. It would be lovely if, just once, a trans activist tried to answer some of the basic questions instead of metaphorically popping their head round the door, shrieking "transphobia" and vanishing. The reason trans activists are so keen on telling women to STFU is that any debate quickly exposes the gaping holes in their ideology. If transwomen are at risk in men's rooms because men are violent, etc...

There's a couple turned up on this thread Prawn, feels like more than a touch of mansplaining though, and still no specific answers, just 'it's a complex issue'

WinchesterWoman · 26/09/2016 21:48

That's horrific. Can't believe a man would think that's OK to play rugby against women

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 27/09/2016 11:08

I know, Winchester. Contact sports are sex-segregated for reasons of safety, among others. I read some of this idiot's blog and the whiff of male socialization is overpowering.

Thanks, Charlie, for the link. I'll go and have a look. Smile

Bambambini · 27/09/2016 11:15

My netball team played a friendly against a NZ Navy mixed team whose ship were in town. Tbh, the women navy players were much more physical than the guys - some of who were huge. We weren't shy delicate types but luckily the guys weren't anywhere near as physical as they could have been as they obviously knew their size and speed gave them a huge advantage. I can't imagine actually competing against them if it was a full out competitive game.

ageingrunner · 27/09/2016 11:27

The writer of the blog doesn't just have make privilege, he also describes his childhood and family background as being fantastically wealthy. These types are not used to being told no. They get what they want, wherever that happens to be.

user1471493472 · 28/09/2016 03:24

Yep all I can say after reading it is what a horrible bully. That poor woman he attacked on the field.

ladyballs · 28/09/2016 19:32

What a colossal, self-absorbed bellend.

Doobigetta · 28/09/2016 20:32

I read the first few paragraphs of this before deciding that the author is a deeply unpleasant misogynist bully, and I am neither interested in reading anything else they have to say, or particularly arsed that they've been given a hard time by a group of women who presumably agree with me. Behave like a cunt, get treated like a cunt, I'm afraid.

quine3 · 29/09/2016 00:07

I was astonished by the desire to see transgender athletes embraced as Para athletes are. Para athletes do not compete in standard competitions - they have their own and compete in classes designed to ensure that no one has an undue advantage. An athletes classification can vary as a condition varies and they can be classified out of para status. If the same standards were applied Layte would not be allowed to play rugby against women. Para athletics strives to ensure that athletes are fairly matched which is the opposite of what Layte wants.

Why another fucking trans thread. In feminism. God I'm bored of this.

Yeah, fucking feminists still fucking going on about protecting fucking women's rights. Soooo fucking boring of us.

Hmm
CrikeyJoseph · 02/10/2016 15:51

I'm bored of trans stuff being in feminism chat as it feels like there's no place to chat without trans issues taking over.

It's very important to protect woman's rights. I have 2 dd and sometimes despair at this world.

CeeBeeBee · 02/10/2016 16:09

Thing is Joseph, the Ryan's stuff is in the feminism topic because it is a feminist issue when a man tries to redefine what being a women is, because they "identify as s woman".

There are plenty of threads on here that are not about trans stuff for you to choose from.

CrikeyJoseph · 02/10/2016 16:29

Yes l know that CeeBee, yet l wanted to comment. Do l need the secret knock to post? Or just agree with you.I said it's important but I'm sick of the amount of fucking headspace its getting on MN. Just because you feel female doesn't make it so. How many other ways can it be argued continuously.

JacquettaWoodville · 02/10/2016 16:38

There are plenty of other threads on the front page of the feminist chat topic, Crikey, but you aren't on any of them (under your current name, at least).

How come?

WinchesterWoman · 02/10/2016 16:38

Crikey you hit the nail on the head there! Just because you feel female doesn't make it so. sadly the rest of the world needs convincing! come and help us
