leejasper.blogspot.co.uk/2016/02/sarah-reid-black-woman-victim-of.html?m=1

Sara Reed died in what her family believe to be suspicious circumstances, she had already experienced police brutality, been let down by Maternity services and possibly sexually assaulted whilst a patient at a mental health hospital.

I am part of a group who organise around Yarlswood and advocate for women trying to gain asylum in the UK. I am not surprised by what has happened to Sarah, women are often brutalised by multiple agencies and her story sounds like several women's stories. I have lived in South East London most of my life and the Maudsley hospital has had a reputation .

What can we do to get Sarah story heard, her family have asked that people share the Lee Jasper blogpost. So far her death has gone unnoticed. Why are newspapers not covering her death, what can we do to make women's lives matter.

I hope so too Xx.

She did bite his finger and tell him she had AIDS.
She was also a know violent long term drug addict.
Come on girls if a guy did this on you, you would kill him outright!
Biting someone when you know you have AIDS is a death sentence for that person!!

TheXxed · 04/02/2016 11:35

I knew an apologist would surface, Sarah like lots of people arrested by police had mental health problems. You do not brutalise woman under any circumstances. Also it's not a death sentence, you can take a course of treatment to reduce your risk if come into contact with the virus.

"Also it's not a death sentence, you can take a course of treatment to reduce your risk if come into contact with the virus"
Are you serious? She bit his finger and she has AIDS. If that was a guy the cops would have been the crap out of him.
We want equality - well this is it and i think its fair - if you are gonna do that you are gonna get yr ass kicked no matter what, this happens to guys everyday at police stations!

TheXxed · 04/02/2016 11:42

Also the judge thought he was lying and called him dishonest and schemeing.

OP posts:
nic0teen · 04/02/2016 11:44

I don't see any evidence of that in the factual video.
That is just hear say and opinion.

TheXxed · 04/02/2016 11:46

Just be clear the judge thought he was lying. And she didn't bite his finger.

TheXxed · 04/02/2016 11:47

What are you on about? 'factual video' what does that even mean?

There is no evidence that she bite him. There were also no bite marks found the officer.

This is horrific. I'll share on fb.

TheXxed · 04/02/2016 12:55

Thank you Altitude

nic0teen, getting beaten up by the police officer was not the only injustice suffered by Sarah Reed. Though nobody deserves to be beaten up in police custody, man or woman. We should all be fighting against that. I know you're just trying to stir up trouble but the callousness of your post is disgusting.

TheXxed · 04/02/2016 13:19

Thank you Will the 'factual video' does not show Sarah biting the officer, the judge thought the officer was lying about feeling threatened and the bite taking place.

Nic0teen, I do hope you are joking. It is never ok for the police to assault members of the public. If an inmate becomes violent they are supposed to use reasonable force to restrain them. In that video, the police officer drags a woman around and beats her up, punching her in the face. It is horrific to watch.
I don't care if she bit him or threatened him, or if she had a history of violence and drug taking - she had mental health problems and the police are there to protect people not to assault them. This whole case is very very sad and worrying.

I can't find out a timeframe of what happened, does anyone know when she died and whether there has been an autopsy yet?

whatdoIget · 05/02/2016 13:04

Terrible. Such a vulnerable woman treated so consistently badly. Is that police man still in the force??

TheXxed · 05/02/2016 18:49

No he was dismissed but he faced ang prison time for the assault. The ministry of Justice have not been forthcoming with information, her family expanded on her claim that she was sexually assaulted whilst a patient in a mental health hospital.

What I meant to say was he never went to prison for the assault he was dismissed from the police force.

Kidnapped · 05/02/2016 19:21

So the investigation will only cover the circumstances in which she died in the prison?

There really needs to be a much wider investigation. Was Sarah's claim of sexual assault investigated by police? Whose decision was it to transfer Sarah from a secure unit to HMP Holloway? What assessment was made of her mental health issues at that time?

whatdoIget · 05/02/2016 20:06

I thought it was the case that police officers are meant to be punished more harshly than a member of the public would be for the same offence, not less harshly. What a bastard he is.

JessicasRabbit · 06/02/2016 00:25

I couldn't bring myself to watch the video. Very glad it is gathering some media interest though. I'm shocked that someone convicted of assault against a vulnerable person wasn't sent to prison.

I think that her death has wider implications too. It is incredibly concerning that the prison officials actually thought the 'strangled herself lying down' excuse might wash. It begs the question - what the hell have they got away with in the past to make them think this was a reasonable way to explain the death?

Ahhh I posted the above comment on the wrong thread. Sarah's story is not uncommon, women face similar experiences in Yarlswood.
