Death of Sarah Reed in police custody

Sara Reed died in what her family believe to be suspicious circumstances, she had already experienced police brutality, been let down by Maternity services and possibly sexually assaulted whilst a patient at a mental health hospital.

I am part of a group who organise around Yarlswood and advocate for women trying to gain asylum in the UK. I am not surprised by what has happened to Sarah, women are often brutalised by multiple agencies and her story sounds like several women's stories. I have lived in South East London most of my life and the Maudsley hospital has had a reputation .

What can we do to get Sarah story heard, her family have asked that people share the Lee Jasper blogpost. So far her death has gone unnoticed. Why are newspapers not covering her death, what can we do to make women's lives matter.

That's great, the article basically reworded Jasper Lees blog Hmm. She was also let down by multiple agencies which they make no mention of.

The Independent article has linked to the blog at least. I've shared both links on Twitter I hope it does spread. Sorry I have no great ideas on how to get it out there I think it will involve a lot of sharing on social media to get it noticed. Maybe a mn thread in chat asking everyone to share it might get more people. It just needs to be picked up by the right person to get it heard.

Driving with her dead baby in the car I just can't get my head around it. So many women are brutalised by the services who are meant to protect them.

HaveIGotAClue, so as not to prejudice any trial. Or to hush it up. Take your pick.

Tho I thought only judges were allowed to put gagging orders (injunctions) on the press, I didn't think MoJ were allowed to do it. They can obviously choose what to release to the press though.

It's such an uphill battle for women to receive justice after police brutality. This woman had to go through years of litigation.

Thank you countess I very ill and vulnerable woman has died in prison under very suspicious circumstances but I doubt Maria Miller will care or convene a parliamentary inquiry.

Not in the UK, but sharing anyway. I don't know anything about your group, but would it be possible to organise a picket of, say the Metropolitan Police headquarters, or the shop where she was arrested and distribute flyers? This is what generally we do, and it is surprisingly effective.

Thank you ugly swan we are thinking of organising a die in, but picket of the shop sounds more useful. When she was arrested she was behaving erratically but there was no evidence she was stealing its thought they called the police just go get her to leave.

We saw this appear on the feeds at college. Bloody horrific. That poor woman. I'd also agree with you about the Maudsley. I used to know a lot of RMNs who worked there, and I wouldn't want to meet any of them in a dark alley.

Thank you violet there is a huge reluctance to speak out about Maudsley because its one of the few MH services left and instead of being reformed they would probably just close it down. So people are just putting up with it.

I trained in one of the London teaching hospitals, and we campaigned not to have to go on placement there.

It's grim I wonder if Kings College Hospital keeps a record of how often patients from the Maudsley turn up in A&E and the types of injuries they have.
