FFS Jeremy come on. Deal with the perpetrators not ghettoise the victims.

Jeremy really does seem locked into the 1970s - the last decade women-only carriages were still around in the UK.

i dont think that is a good idea but more women gyms would be good

VestalVirgin · 14/12/2015 10:09

As the mother of a teenage boy, I HATE the idea. he would be so much less safe on trains.

You think it is women's responsibility to share train carriages with men who molest us, just so that your precious boy is safe?

There's an interesting parallel between your opinion and that of those who want transwomen (=males) in women's prisons.

If your teenage boy is so nice and perfectly safe to be around, then why are other teenage boys and adult men not?

If you really believe that males are so violent that a males only train carriage would not be safe for your teenage boy, why do you want women to share train carriages with men?

Let's be consistent here!

I say, an experiment should be made.

If women-only train carriages are actually safer, then that teaches us a lot about men and their willingness, or lack thereof, to step in when other men molest women.

Likewise, if a males-only carriage would be a hellhole of violence, that would also be pretty telling.

And maybe make some people see that something needs to be done about the problem of male violence.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 14/12/2015 13:55

I think it's a ridiculous idea.

thedancingbear · 14/12/2015 15:06

If your teenage boy is so nice and perfectly safe to be around, then why are other teenage boys and adult men not?

Because some people are different from others?

VestalVirgin · 14/12/2015 15:27

Because some people are different from others?

You mean, some men are different from others.

She is worried about the safety of her teenage son not in general (which would be the case if she believed that "people are different" in general), but in context of women-only carriages.

As she could use the carriages for everyone (the suggestion was about women only carriages, not men only) with her son, and keep an eye on him, this is obviously about her son whom she considers old enough to travel alone in a mixed sex carriage, but who she feels would not be safe in a carriage that is full of lots of men and a few women.

If we assume that men are not violent at higher rates than women, then separate carriages for women and men would have no more of an effect on the wellbeing of a teenage boy than separate carriages for people born in summer.

thedancingbear · 14/12/2015 17:13

You mean, some men are different from others.

No I don't. Please don't tell me what I mean.

florentina1 · 14/12/2015 17:28

Don't women commit crimes. Suppose you find yourself in a carriage with a violent woman.

We dont need more demonising of men.

VestalVirgin · 14/12/2015 17:44

I apologize for assuming you meant to say something that makes sense, the. Nasty habit of mine, assuming that people actually read my posts and try to give answers that make sense.

Don't women commit crimes. Suppose you find yourself in a carriage with a violent woman.

See? That's my point.

Why is a woman worried about the safety of her teenage boy in a mostly male train carriage? After all, the violent women would be removed, so wouldn't it be safer?
