Caitlyn Jenner Halloween costume

Here it is.

Apparently, it's transphobic to wear a corset as a costume now, because Her Highness Caitlyn has graced one with her holy presence on the cover of Vanity Fair.

I wonder how many will be brave enough to wear it this year.

I'm genuinely mystified by the adoration and untouchability surrounding CJ.

Me, too. Because I'm a bit of an eejit, I sometimes read a celebrity gossip site. It's particularly cruel towards Kim Kardashian, even to the point of mocking how uncomfortable she appears to find pregnancy. This is justified on the basis that she's not real, has had plastic surgery and invites the camera into her life. They love her new stepmother though. Seemingly she looks great and us an inspiration.

So far I haven't bothered to query the difference

shovetheholly · 26/08/2015 10:48

I think it would depend entirely on how it was done. In a mood of celebration and support for transgender people and the instabilities of crossdressing - fantastic. In a mood of spite and mockery, not so much. I often feel this about Halloween costumes.

Some gay friends have a 'whores and vicars' party and the 'whores' costumes are a fantastic celebration of a kind of bawdy femininity (across classes too). There is nothing misogynistic about it at all. I can imagine one of them doing Caitlyn Jenner in a very supportive way. However, in other hands, the very idea could be outrageously stereotypical and discriminatory.

CoteDAzur · 26/08/2015 12:32

I don't understand what everyone has to be supportive of CJ, all the time. Why it has to be about her her her HER. Surely, people should be allowed to make statements about the whole sordid affair of the media circus surrounding the coming out of a 65-year-old in a corset.

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 26/08/2015 14:54

I am not particularly supportive of CJ, for support's sake.

I wish she would fuck right off, tbh. And Kellie Maloney, who I would have more respect for if she had chosen a female name more apt for a 62yo woman instead of a bloke's wet dream of what a nubile 22yo would be called.

Am beyond bored of the lot of it. Stupid costumes like this just bring more attention to the whole spectacle, IMO.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 26/08/2015 17:03

Agree the costumes are bringing CJ more attention and that is what she seems to crave

The fawning over CJ is ridiculous and it's all about how fabulous she looks for her age. She does not look fabulous she looks what she is a transwoman who had had far too much plastic surgery and wears far too much make up

ALassUnparalleled · 26/08/2015 17:57

The costumes aren't of her doing nor as far as I'm aware is the complaining about them.

I agree she doesn't look nearly as fabulous as we're being told and it probably looks very fake close up. Maloney looked better when she was in ordinary clothes but clearly is trying to compete with Jenner in her recent photos.

Re the name she's 6/7 years older than me. I was at school with a couple of"Kellys" and have worked with "Kellys" roughly my age. It's not particularly a young girl's name, nor a particularly attractive name. Criticising her for her history of violence and homophobia is fine but her name?

Apart from when they get mentioned on here I find it as easy to avoid them as I do any other sleb.

SansaryaAgain · 26/08/2015 18:36

So, all these people complaining about the costume - where were they several years ago when guys used to dress up in beehive wigs and minidresses and stumble around as Amy Winehouse for Halloween? If that wasn't making fun of a deeply troubled individual who'd been through a lot then I don't know what was.

AnyFucker · 26/08/2015 18:52

her name is Kellie

I would like to see evidence of a British 62yo woman who was christened Kellie

EBearhug · 26/08/2015 19:03

Some gay friends have a 'whores and vicars' party and the 'whores' costumes are a fantastic celebration of a kind of bawdy femininity (across classes too). There is nothing misogynistic about it at all.

I'm struggling with the idea about there being nothing misogynistic about a tarts and vicars party.

I also don't get Caitlyn Jenner adoration. I think a lot of it is because she's not trying to be a 62yo woman, she's trying to be a 62yo celebrity.

ALassUnparalleled · 26/08/2015 19:14

You are taking exception to it being Kellie as opposed to Kelly? The names sound exactly the same and neither are particularly glamorous.

I can't remember how the ones I was at school with spelt their names but there are woman born in Britain who are in their mid 50s who have names which sound exactly like "Kellie". There's plenty of valid reasons to criticise Maloney but that's not one of them.

The Amy Winehouse costumes were vile. I have already said that.

AnyFucker · 26/08/2015 21:20

I can choose whatever reason I like to take exception to what Kellie Maloney is trying to tell us.

I don't consider your opinion on what I say to be of any consequence to me at all. If you don't see my point, I shan't waste my time trying to explain it to you.

ChristineDePisan · 26/08/2015 21:41

I can't find the UK data, but in the US Kelly / Kellie was the 30-35th most popular girls name in the 1960s, so not uncommon amongst that age group particularly with an Irish background (I think it means something like "warrior", so quite apt)

Anyway... In a world where you can buy a dentist outfit covered in blood, complete with a severed lion's head, a CJ outfit is (I completely agree) not kind but almost to be expected. Halloween isn't just about wearing a witch or skeleton costume in the US.

ChristineDePisan · 26/08/2015 21:43

I think Kellie Maloney (when Frank) standing as the UKIP candidate for the 2004 London mayoral election is plenty of reason to dislike her, even without the abhorrent statements (that she hasn't completely retracted, has she?)

itsbetterthanabox · 26/08/2015 21:46

What are you trying to say anyfucker? You aren't making much sense.

itsbetterthanabox · 26/08/2015 21:48

Fawning over her? I haven't seen that really but I don't read heat. Where is this fawning happening?
Talking about how good or bad she looks is just what the media do to women. Now comparing her to biological women is just ridiculous.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 26/08/2015 21:56

I have recently returned from the states there was plenty of fawning over CJ on the radio, TV and no doubt magazines not that I read any CJ won the Arthur Ashe award for Courage ffs

The media do judge women by their looks, CJ is not a woman she is a transwomen and part of the kasdashian media empire which is all about media image that is what is mainly spoken about how amazing and glamours she looks

shishagrrrl · 26/08/2015 21:58

Surely, people should be allowed to make statements about the whole sordid affair of the media circus surrounding the coming out of a 65-year-old in a corset.

You have hit the nail on the head.
People are mocking the choice of outfit, rather than CJ herself.

How many females (who were born females) do you know in their late 60's, who would even dream of wearing an outfit like this? I don't know many.
If CJ wants to be taken seriously, she needs to start acting like a woman of her age and not trying to dress like someone her daughters generation.

No wonder people are taking the piss.

(I'm younger than her and even I wouldn't wear something tarty/tacky like that)

MistressMerryWeather · 26/08/2015 22:06

What should women in their 60's be wearing?

Hmm...

shishagrrrl · 26/08/2015 22:29

I'm sure most women over the age of 60 could possibly look good if they were also receiving extra female hormones (hrt).
At the moment, most women over the age of 60 are denied HRT. Angry

They possibly would wear a tight white corset - who knows, but most wouldn't expect to look good in it and they wouldn't want the whole world seeing them in it. That's for sure.

To throw an added argument into this already very cloudy mix - I would be interested to know whether a female transgender person is still given female hormones (hrt) after the age of 60, (a typical age at which women who are born female are often denied/refused hrt).

Surely, if they want to truly experience the joys and hardships of being a woman - in all it's glorius stages, then they should also have to accept a decline in their female hormones - which occurs naturally after the age of 50 and definitely after the age of 60!
Why should they have the right (and the medical assistance) to have access to medication which is effectively 'helping to keep them young' when other females are denied this treatment?

Boils my piss.

ALassUnparalleled · 26/08/2015 22:58

What should women in their 60's be wearing?

Yes, as a valid criticism "she's wearing age inappropriate clothes" is pretty poor.

MistressMerryWeather · 26/08/2015 23:49

Perhaps elasticated skirts in a array of pastel colours would be more appropriate Lass?

Maybe sporting a blue rinse?

ChunkyPickle · 27/08/2015 06:58

Kim costume is mean, dentists with lion heads are in extremely poor taste. Personal attacks - mocking individuals is mean. This is why there are some comedians I don't enjoy - there is political commentary, there is laughing with someone, and then there is being rude and mocking, and you can tell the difference

abbieanders · 27/08/2015 07:30

Re Jenner wearing that corset. The problem I have with it related to age is that a female woman in her sixties would never appear on the front of vanity fair in her grots. Let alone be lauded for it.

VikingVolva · 27/08/2015 07:55

"Why it has to be about her her her HER."

Because if you google for the costume, you'll return hits that show it's not just a corset costume, it's a CJ costume complete with sash making the intention unmistakeable.

And yes, she could maintain a dignified silence as some others have done. Or she could make a fuss about others making a profit from her image. And make any other points about her situation whilst she does so.

Not everyone finds a particular thing funny.

YonicScrewdriver · 27/08/2015 08:04

AFAIK Jenner hasn't commented directly.

I don't like the costume but it's perfectly possibly the kind of thing that Bruce Jenner would have found funny and CJ may feel the same.
