I've just had my lunch break ruined. Was walking back to work in a very happy mood, sun was shining and I just had one of those tampon ad moments where I felt happy at being alive (despite not wearing white jeans). I see this guy walking towards me and I thought how he looked like Father Christmas, sort of cuddly and kind looking. So I made the stupid, stupid mistake of smiling, and that was all the invitation he needed to say "Nice tits love" as he walked past. I was so shocked I just stood there an idiot and didn't say anything. It made my skin crawl, he was old enough to be my grandfather!

Where do men get off thinking that it's ok to say things like that? It's just repulsive and ruined my happy mood Angry.

FFS. What's wrong with, "Lovely day, isn't it?"

alsmutko · 11/08/2015 11:44

The good news is when you get to middle age (I'm now 58) you're invisible. I started noticing from about the age of 45 that I wasn't attracting attention from random men on the streets.
Until my DD got to around 13 I really thought men had grown up and stopped all that shit. But she (now 21) says no.

alsmutko · 11/08/2015 11:49

See OP, what you did wrong was to smile at him. Merely looking at a man means you want to shag him.
Honestly, I actually had a man once ask me why did I look at him if I didn't want to be 'chatted up'.
Unfortunately the witty response only came to me hours later.

I think the answer to that one is "morbid curiosity", alsmutko.

PinkSquash that really made me laugh - what does that even mean?!!

I've trained myself since the age of about 21 when I got sick of all the comments, to walk with my head held high and to always make sure I have my "bitch face" on. It tends to work and I've not had much in the way of this sort of thing in the last 10 years - could just be because I'm 35 now though and so less appealing.

This just reminded me though, why I never let myself smile or even make eye contact with random men Sad

What a shame, though completely understandable.

YonicScrewdriver · 11/08/2015 18:08

Hi partial

Have you seen the AIBU street harassment thread and the follow up thread in FWR?

Kreeshsheesh · 11/08/2015 18:11

Better than your moobs

scallopsrgreat · 11/08/2015 19:30

Why is it a shame that we don't make eye contact with men. Or perhaps for whom is it a shame would be a better question?

I'm not surprised it knocked your day DirtyLittleSecrets. Its all a bit shit!
