Men blaming our vaginas for things

I don't know about y'all, but this gets on my last nerve. If they want to insult us based on our sex, why do they have to get so personal and vulgar about it? Recently I heard some guys talking about their loved ones and saying they'd trust their friends first because "you can't trust anything that bleeds for 7 days and doesn't die".

The ignorance and these sexist remarks are just too much

OP posts:
Koalafications · 30/05/2015 23:02

I did once have a work colleague 'explain' to me why it isn't appropriate for women to have lots of sexual partners but it is appropriate for men, using a lock and key analogy.

You see, according to him, a key is brilliant if it can open many locks, but if a lock can be opened by any key then it's a shit lock.

He had such a proud face, like he had really enlightened me.

kickassangel · 30/05/2015 23:05

Kate, I hope you told him that you may bleed for a few days a month, but he was a dick for at least 28 days in every 4 weeks.

LassUnparalleled · 30/05/2015 23:15

Yonic To be fair to Partial I'm a little sceptical about the OP.

Badonna · 30/05/2015 23:42

There are a lot of men who blame vaginas for a lot of things. My personal least favorite is when a woman is vilified for having vagina that's ugly. The things I've read and heard along those lines make me want to scream with rage.

uglyswan · 31/05/2015 01:02

Koalafications - . I've heard a similar comparison, only it goes like this: a pencil sharpener is brilliant if it can sharpen many pencils, but if a pencil can be sharpened by many sharpeners, it'll be worn down to a useless nubbin in no time. Anyone can come up with a stupid comparison that proves whatever you want it to prove. Ex falso sequitur quodlibet and so on...

YonicScrewdriver · 31/05/2015 08:53

Penises and vaginas came long before keys and pencils! Do these charmers translate their moralities analogies to the animal world?

YonicScrewdriver · 31/05/2015 08:55

Lass, if partial doesn't think the OP is in good faith, he can report Smile

bigbuttons · 31/05/2015 09:03

Oh dear, this conversation is why I have avoided MN feminist boards for ages. Thought I'd dip back in today, and there is still the same nasty stuff going on.
Op I find the wording of your Op unpleasant. I don't see why you can't be challenged on it.

YonicScrewdriver · 31/05/2015 09:12

Do you dislike all the other active threads on FWR as well, bigbuttons? It seems a bit unfair to judge by just one Smile

LassUnparalleled · 31/05/2015 10:10

Yonic I have reported it.

bigbuttons · 31/05/2015 10:30

Yonic, it is unfortunate that after some considerable time avoiding these boards, I decided, on the off chance to open this thread.
Bad luck perhaps? A rogue thread? Or a typical Fem board convo?

shaska · 31/05/2015 10:47

Will you be ok bigbuttons? Chuck a croissant in the oven and have a cup of tea or something maybe, often helps me get over unpleasant shocks.

bigbuttons · 31/05/2015 10:53

I wish it had been a shock though. That's the point. It was as I thought it would be, sadly.
yeah, I'm ok, will make it through the day.

LassUnparalleled · 31/05/2015 10:55

This might get deleted as troll hunting but whilst Bigbuttons is being a little over dramatic she has been posting regularly for years; unlike the OP who has 3 posts, 2 of them on this thread.

For what it's worth buttons I think it's a very odd opening post and I am sceptical about it being genuine.

YonicScrewdriver · 31/05/2015 11:08

Lass, I agree the OP doesn't have much history.

Bigbuttons, I'd say the pub is the most typical FWR conversation - it's certainly the longest running. There's a pretty nasty thread on Chat right now about an OP whose neighbour is coming on to her - I'm not judging Chat by that one thread though, and I hope you don't judge FWR by one thread either.

bigbuttons · 31/05/2015 11:15

fair enough yonic I'll make sure to keep an open mind Smile

Trills · 31/05/2015 11:51

"you can't trust anything that bleeds for 7 days and doesn't die"

= I fear and mistrust women and I cannot articulate why

Perhas because they've been brought up to believe that "being a man" requires that they be stronger and cleverer and have more power and be more listened-to than women, and the women they are around don't seem to have got the memo.

Yops · 31/05/2015 16:22

If you trust your friends ahead of your wife/partner, you've made a pretty poor choice in my opinion. But this 'like' reminds me of a greeting card joke I saw once. The front said 'Why did God invent men?'. Inside it said 'Because vibrators can't mow the lawn.' I doubt anyone coming out with either statement truly believes it to be true.

But in a wider context, what should we do about humour that we find offensive? How do we control it? Should we? I've heard Asian and black comedians say stuff about their own community that would in other circumstances be considered racist. I've heard women make jokes about other women that are not to everyone's taste. What should we do - anything?

DoctorTwo · 31/05/2015 16:35

I really hoped it would be random things, like the crashing of the financial system in 2008, or for the drought in California. Slightly disappointed now...

TheVermiciousKnid · 31/05/2015 16:57

like the crashing of the financial system in 2008

Sorry, I think that was me. Blush I made my poor husband do the housework. :(

kickassangel · 31/05/2015 18:01

The floods in Michigan are my fault. I have a hormonally induced migraine today so spent the morning sleeping, and asked DH to do the laundry and hang it out.

See, it's all true. Periods > migraine > lazy woman > man does laundry > God punishes entire Mid West of America rather than see some poor man hanging out the laundry.

However, sleep and meds have done their job. I am now waiting for the next load of laundry to finish and I will sort out getting it dried. Now that me and my vagina are out of bed, we are able to resume our duties, and the rain is easing up, almost over. So, double proof that my vagina caused flooding.

UptoapointLordCopper · 31/05/2015 19:47

Anything? Anything?? Things, are they?

UptoapointLordCopper · 31/05/2015 19:47

Italics fail. Blame my vagina.

YonicScrewdriver · 31/05/2015 20:03

Vagina is nearly an anagram of "a ving". Which sounds a bit like "a thing". QED, hmmm?

Anniegetyourgun · 31/05/2015 21:15

Slightly more poetic than (but just as offensive as) the the key/lock analogy (stop after a couple of minutes if you don't want the song after it):
