Are most cat lovers female?

I am sure that there are some males who dote on their cats.

But it does seem to me to be a female thing.

Am I mistaken?

point well taken Buffy.

practically a cat himself.

Oh my, there's a deal breaker if every I've heard one.

So, partial, has this thread helped with your original question at all?

GinAndSonic · 16/05/2015 21:38

Havent read the thread, but i briefly dated a man with 7 house cats and an aversion to housework. His house was minging.
The briefly was because i discovered the cat thing.
He was a crazy cat man.

YonicScrewdriver · 16/05/2015 21:39

Partial, I have absolutely no idea what your argument is; I don't think minor mistakes are the reason!

partialderivative · 16/05/2015 21:53

So, if my null hypothesis is that there is no difference between the proportion of males who keep cats to the proportion of females who keep cats.

And the alternate hypothesis is that the proportion of cat owners who are females is larger.

If statistics would lead to rejecting the null hypothesis, what further conclusions could be drawn from the alternative hypothesis?

Sounds a bit like an A level stats question now.

PacificDogwood · 16/05/2015 21:54

Good heavens above, statistics?! Shock

Me and my dog are out!

YonicScrewdriver · 16/05/2015 22:00

Your OP wasn't "I think more women own cats then men own cats"

It was "women who own cats dote on them more than men who own cats"

Nope, DH loves cats, as does my dad, and FIL Smile

partialderivative · 16/05/2015 22:01

I bet your dog loves statistics, Pacific, it just loves you too much to tell you.

OP posts:
atticusfinchatemybaby · 16/05/2015 22:05

Nope. Lots of men love pussies too.

partialderivative · 16/05/2015 22:06

Your OP wasn't "I think more women own cats then men own cats"

Very true Yonic.

Does it negate my more recent question?

OP posts:
YonicScrewdriver · 16/05/2015 22:17

Lol Atticus!

OP, you mean the question as to whether a greater Proportion of men or women own cats? Well, that's a closed question with three possible answers. It's not an argument. You've linked a survey which points to one of the three answers but no idea if it's statistically significant.

Shall I start a thread asking if more men than women buy mint shower gel?

partialderivative · 16/05/2015 22:33

Yonic, I realise that the one survey I mentioned is hardy sufficient evidence, however I woud be surprised if people's personal experiences did not bare witness to these results.

So I am basing my conclusion upon intuition and experience as well as survey results.

Why are you disinclined to beieve that the majority of cat owners are female?

Shall I start a thread asking if more men than women buy mint shower gel?

What could you conclude if the evidnce showed a diffence?

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 16/05/2015 22:38

I just googled 'are cat owners female' and then 'are cat owners male' - the different answers are very elucidating Grin

Also found a nicely misogynistic offering from the DailyFail, surprise, surprise… Hmm

YonicScrewdriver · 16/05/2015 23:39

"Why are you disinclined to beieve that the majority of cat owners are female"

Where have I said this?

I'm disinclined to believe that, if the majority of cat owners in Britain are female, that says anything profound about the relationship between being female and having a cat as a pet, "the implications of which may be huge".

If you're now simply using a multi page thread to pursue a question as trivial as my example of mint shower gel usage, then, to quote Buffy - Confused

I'm still laughing that the OP thinks that an argument about the sex of cat owners can be supported by a quote about the sex of cats themselves! And that any evidence that showed that there were more female owners of cats would shake anyone's views about nature/nurture and men/women TO THE CORE

But then as the OP has admitted this is a goady thread anyway so I doubt that a reasoned discussion was the aim

shaska · 17/05/2015 10:22

But what is it with men and mint shower gel.

Also to go back a couple pages. Feeding cats vegan is dangerous, they're obligate carnivores. I suppose in theory it's possible to do, with a ton of supplements, but I'd imagine the vegan cat owner's cats are sorting themselves out with local wildlife.

Original Source mint is the gold standard for men here. No complaints about bits, maybe they've become hardened or something....
