Going 'no makeup'

I know it's trivial and as feminists must think only of FGM however I'm getting fed up with the time, cost, effort and most of all the reasons why I wear make up.

I've been wearing it blindly since about aged 14 so it will weirdly be a big change, and my small act of rebellion against the p.

Anyone else a no makeup person?

TBH in the "real world" I work in a female dominated sector but when I walk in with my assistant educated people who consider themselves non sexist still sometimes turn to him and say "Hello Mr Squizita" assuming I'm his assistant. Sad

With a specific title like Professor or Doctor I would say thus is if anything more likely.

I would love to live somewhere where that never happens. But I move in quite "socially aware" 30-50 something circles in North West London and sadly it still does. Not all the time. But I'd be lying if I said never.

Quite. Angry Sad

i work with senior academics and professors in a field that is women-dominated, and even they encounter this assumption within their field despite the relative normality (compared to other disciplines) of female professors.

I work in a field that traditionally was v male dominated and is now changing (in some fields more than others) to more equal ratios or even female dominated (medicine).
And I still get 'Oh, a woman?!' in various situations - actually said out loud Hmm
So, yes, assumptions are alive and well.

Some hospital uniforms are the most unflattering designs in the history of fashion IMO - not that uniforms need to be fashionable, but why should they be actively unattractive??

It is very interesting how many theatre nurses (female) will wear very expressive eye make-up (as that is the only thing visible above a mask. And they are of course all trying to 'catch' a young surgeon as a husband, aren't they? Wink)
