My first thread in this section, I'm nervous about fucking it up as I'm not so good at getting what's in my head to make sense.

I came across this game today, on an ios gaming forum I visit a lot. I've downloaded the game but not tried it yet. There is a bit of info on the two young girls who made the game and how they came up with the idea here

I'm still forming my opinion and have to play the game, but I think the girls' attitude is positive and I think the idea and theory itself is good, but, the site on which I found the game is mainly male, and the first few comments on the games thread are in a joking way "bloody good time" and even a mention of anal sex?!, I think there will be more of the same over the next few days. I'm not sure how to word how I feel, but I hope the girls don't get disheartened if the game doesn't achieve what they intended.

Told you I was rubbish at making sense. I will be back to post better, but just wondered what you all thought of it. Do you think the game will change any attitudes/feelings towards periods? Is making it lighthearted a bad thing?

Was it really necessary for several of you to pile into DWH? He is a man and basically said it's a natural thing for which there's nothing to be ashamed of. But oh dear, how dare he comment.

No he didn't. He said there is no taboo and it is not a feminist issue.

I see you all assume his fil or whoever it was was "shaming " his wife- as opposed to being angry at the sheer stupidity of flushing tampons?

As noted, if it was just that he would have spoken his own language. Also, in the UK it's perfectly fine to flush tampons unless you have a special sewage system. It's not stupid at all.

No it isn't. Why do you think toilets have bins for sanitary products? I'm currently in an office in central London where every single female loo has a notice in it saying do not flush any sanitary products, even the flushable ones, as they block the system.

And for any property which has a septic tank, reed bed or other system it's an incredibly stupid thing to do.

FloraFox · 06/02/2015 21:33

I've flushed them for more than 20 years and never had a problem. Everyone I know does this at home. Office buildings are different as they are used much more than a loo at home.

What are you anyway? The man protection squad or the flushing police?

10 things you should never flush down your toilet

You've not heard about it not being ok to flush tampons? They don't dissolve.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 06/02/2015 21:40

And a cape?

Please say there's a cape!

RufusTheReindeer · 06/02/2015 21:49

There are a number of mumsnet threads debating flushing tampons

I think the general consensus is that you should avoid it if possible

But I quite fancy the idea of a uniform and a cape...

Tampons are designed not to break down and to expand when wet. 2 properties not desirable for an article to be flushed away.

I really am genuinely surprised some of you don't know this or know it but think it's fine just to keep on flushing them away.

FloraFox · 06/02/2015 22:02

The logo should be a tampon but with the string as a streak of lightening.

RufusTheReindeer · 06/02/2015 22:06

I'm just not keen on the spandex to be honest

PuffinsAreFictitious · 06/02/2015 22:13

If you have a particularly large mooncup, you could possibly double it up as a plunger?

And spandex is fab as long as it's not on me

Artifexmumdi · 06/02/2015 22:21

First of all, I have never flushed a tampon. However, I actually wonder if not knowing you shouldn't flush tampons is related to the idea held by some people (#NAPALT) that periods are dirty, should never be openly talked about, and any evidence of these periods should never ever be noticeable in any way even accidentally. Logically, then flushing tampons down the loo seems to be the solution as it gets rid of said evidence.

If it were more acceptable to talk about periods, then perhaps it would be easier to talk about not flushing tampons.

LazyJanePainter · 06/02/2015 22:33

That logic seems flawed given the posters on here who haven't a problem talking about periods but have a problem understanding why tampons shouldn't be flushed.

I recall a conversation with a (male) EHO on this subject along the lines they shouldn't be flushed but if you find one when you're swimming in the sea it's a good indicator the sewage treatment in the area leaves a lot to be desired.

There's been a fair amount of belittling on here. Who knew non- environmentallly sensible disposal of sanitary products could be so hilarious?

Artifexmumdi · 06/02/2015 22:55

Thank you, Buffy, you got what I was getting at, only you said it better.

FloraFox · 06/02/2015 22:55

Well, if you can't take it ....

PuffinsAreFictitious · 06/02/2015 22:59

Ahhh, I see. We must at all times be hatchet faced harridans and not engage in whimsy ever. Ever ever.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 06/02/2015 23:11

You're forgetting we're Humourless Feminists.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 06/02/2015 23:13

Yes. I got confused by all the laughs I have with this group of women and think that we're allowed humour.

I shall write it on a post it to ensure I remember.

DadWasHere · 07/02/2015 01:59

Well I have to admit in the current climate of the thread it would be difficult to share my personal experiences of excellent methods for removing menstrual blood from mattresses. From the terrible gravity of some of the replies in this thread I seriously wonder if gasoline and a torch are sometimes contemplated.

DadWasHere · 07/02/2015 02:40

No he didn't. He said there is no taboo and it is not a feminist issue.

For the girls who made the video, no. For other things mentioned in the thread, like religion with its ritual uncleanliness of menstruating women, absolutely its an issue.

Periods and tampons keep getting overly magnified and twisted as a feminist issue, where those who want to break the taboo breath life into it. A link from the good days of Jezebel:

LazyJanePainter · 07/02/2015 03:04

Well, if you can't take it ....

Who says I can't? And don't think I wasn't laughing too, maybe not for the same reasons...

SomebodysRealName · 07/02/2015 06:07

I didn't know you weren't supposed to flush them until quite recently. I still do flush them quite often, cause what else can you do with them? Roll toilet paper round them and stick them up your sleeve until you can surreptitiously transfer them to the kitchen or outside bin where you can sufficiently conceal them under other rubbish. I know people sometimes have those little pedal bins in their bathroom but I couldn't possibly leave a used tampon in someone's little pedal bin!
