Very quietly, it would appear.

The reason it is illegal for women to be topless is because of men's objectification of women. It is the same thing.

Men want 'purity' of women when it suits but also the ability to ogle women, when it suits.

And equating the feeding of babies to topless modelling is just bleurgh. Shows exactly what you think of women though Birdo83.

"And equating the feeding of babies to topless modelling is just bleurgh. Shows exactly what you think of women though Birdo83"

It's hypocritical. Either breasts are unsuitable for school kids to see, or they're not.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 20/01/2015 12:58

Because context is nothing?

You really don't get this.

Gratuitous exploitation of female bodies/objectification of female bodies as something for men to enjoy v's biological function of a breast to nourish a baby/child wherever it is needed. It isn't the same thing.

It's ok for anyone to see a baby being fed. It's not ok for children to be bombarded with sexualised images of women as nothing more than objects for viewing pleasure.

Birdo83 · 20/01/2015 13:00

You do realise it's a natural function for (straight) men to enjoy and get turned on by breasts too ?

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 20/01/2015 13:02

Well, they can enjoy them without exposing children to hyper sexualised images of women over their morning cornflakes.

It's totally fine and normal for a child to see their parent's naked body when they are getting changed for swimming. It's not OK for them to say, see their parents posing sexually for naked selfies. Every day. Context.

grimbletart · 20/01/2015 13:07

Yes Birdo, even feminists understand basic biology.

We just think that a national "newspaper" where one would expect to see news and features is not the place to parade naked breasts. Or perhaps you think it is the role of national newspapers to turn you on?

Context, Birdo, context.

I wonder whether birdo's imaginary feminists all live in London too? Wink

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 20/01/2015 13:32

Sigh. Rains too much here to be London.

RoyallyFuckedOff · 20/01/2015 13:46

Hey Birdo, why do you think you are owed breasts? Can't you find a woman who actually wants to show them to you.. without 35p exchanging hands?

It would be a shame for middle class women to see working class women who aren't so smart out of a job, just so they can take away a bit of fun for men in the morning.

Why do you assume working class women are stupid?
Why do you assume feminist are middle class? (I'm not)

Why do you think women are there to give men a bit of fun in the morning? Literally there are boobs everywhere. You will survive if you have to spend 5 seconds looking for them and not be able to do it while reading the paper.

passmethewineplease · 20/01/2015 13:55

Birdo you just sound like a raging perv tbh.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 20/01/2015 14:00

It's just not breakfast without bewbs

messyisthenewtidy · 20/01/2015 14:01

I for one am overjoyed. Of course it affects girls. There comes a moment in every girl's life where she has to ask herself "why do so many men enjoy looking at girls' breasts?". And the answer she comes up affects the way she views herself and her self worth.

So this is great news.

scallopsrgreat · 20/01/2015 14:28

Actually Birdo I think men are socialised to find breasts sexually attractive.

They are certainly socialised to disassociate them from the women they are attached to as if the women are interchangeable objects.

Birdo83 · 20/01/2015 14:59

Men aren't socialised to like breasts. The attraction goes back to caveman times when women with bigger breasts were percieved as being healthier mothers for men's children and could provide lots of milk for the babies.

Some cultures have men that are attracted to small breasts. In fact the correlation between men and breast fancying can be traced to relatively recent times. And there is no correlation between size of the breasts and the amount of milk produced for a baby. HTH.

I think you are on a wind-up here tbh to not even think that socialisation might play a part in what we are attracted to. It is pretty stupid to think it doesn't.

PetulaGordino · 20/01/2015 15:23

Buffy don't you realise that all over Middle-class feministdom women are resisting their overwhelming attraction to big hairy swinging testicles and secretly bemoaning the fact that no national newspapers cater to their need for such a treat with their morning coffee

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 20/01/2015 15:26

Do you not get your copy of Hairy Balls Weekly delivered with the supplements on Saturday? Or is that just a suburbanfeminist thing?

RoyallyFuckedOff · 20/01/2015 15:30

Oh. An anthropologist in our midst. Hmm

Actually, funny enough there are many cultures where the women walk around boobs all over the show and men don't even notice. Guess why? Because they're just feeding their children with them. Or not doing anything particularly interesting with them at all. What we find sexually appealing varies all over the world.

See foot binding.

See corsets.

See Kayan neck rings

See Amazon ear stretching.

glenthebattleostrich · 20/01/2015 15:31

Ifyoure, hairy balls weekly is strictly for the upper middle classes and as such only available when you purchase a M&S meal deal!

RoyallyFuckedOff · 20/01/2015 15:33

What a feminist have to do if she wanted to see this copy of Hairy Balls Weekly (for research purposes obviously) but was not, an upper middle class feminist and therefore not allowed in to M&S?
