"I" think he would have been treated differently.

What do "you" think, girlylala?

girlylala · 07/01/2015 19:04

I agree. I'm trying to articulate why so I can put it into words. Sorry Facebook statues have me riled. I never knew I was friends with rape apologists

girlylala · 07/01/2015 19:04

Sorry, yes, I think he would have.

I no longer do. The delete friend function makes life so much nicer.

MarjorieMelon · 07/01/2015 19:05

I think if he had treated a gay man the victim would have been treated in the same way. If it had been a heterosexual man it would be a different story.

MarjorieMelon · 07/01/2015 19:06

Raped not treated!

BathtimeFunkster · 07/01/2015 19:06

Yes.

Because when men are raped men imagine themselves having a penis forcibly inserted in their anus.

When women are raped men imagine that a woman they had sex with accusing them of rape and they (incorrectly in many cases) assume that the accusation would be false.

GilbertBlytheWouldGetIt · 07/01/2015 19:08

Sorry if that was a prickly reply, OP. There's a certain poster that frequently comes onto the fwr boards and orders us to discuss, without offering any input of his own.

And I agree with BathtimeFunkster.

girlylala · 07/01/2015 19:11

Oh it's ok. I struggle to make points but I knew somewhere on here I would find someone who understood. I doubt there would have been such a welcome from some fans had he raped a man. Does that make sense.

The lack of openly gay football players suggests to me there is a problem with homophobia in football.

Loathe as I am to reply to anything with discuss at the end....

I think if McDonald had taken a man back to the room for sex, Ched would be treated differently, not as a rapist (because it's fine to rape gay men, they aren't people like 'real' men. They are almost like women). But he would be treated differently as a 'gay footballer'. Some would condemn him, some would be falling over themselves to show how tolerant they are and would completely forget the victim.

If McDonald had been a woman and had taken a man back to the room and Ched had turned up and raped him, yes I think it would be treated differently. I think the 'she shouldn't have expected to be playing scrabble' contingent think that a woman's consent to one man equals consent to any random who wants a go, but a man doesn't give consent to randoms by consenting to one woman. I think the idea that you could pull a bird and shag her in a hotel, and a man could legally break in and rape you would be terrifying to men, if they thought about it. How nice for them that they don't have to.

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 07/01/2015 19:17

Agree with general consensus.

If he had raped a man the reaction would have been enormously different as homophobia is rife in football. Also that people would have been more likely to see it as rape.

Similarly if he had raped a child people wouldn't be saying poor him snoffair and all the rest of it.

Sad fact is many people don't consider raping women of childbearing age to be anything particularly criminal or remarkable unless or course it is done in combination with some other extreme violence.

girlylala · 07/01/2015 19:46

I think that's the point I'm trying to get to. Rape seems to be acceptable in certain circumstances to some people.

In my honest opinion, if CE had raped a man it would never have made the news and the victim would be lucky if it even reached court.

BarbarianMum · 07/01/2015 21:43

I agree with Bathtime as to public reaction (unless it was the rape of a gay male in which case no-one would care very much). But I also think that had Chad Evens raped a heterosexual man, that man would never have gone to the police.

GraysAnalogy · 07/01/2015 21:44

Yes but not just because of the rape, but the gay aspect too.

GraysAnalogy · 07/01/2015 21:45

Also the rape of a man seems to get treated differently because it's not something we hear much about.

YonicSleighdriver · 07/01/2015 21:52

Barbarian, remember the victim went to the police because her handbag was missing and she didn't know what had happened, not because of the rape

SaucyMare · 07/01/2015 21:56

Yes because football is so homophobic

BarbarianMum · 07/01/2015 22:00

That's true, had forgotten that.

BarbarianMum · 07/01/2015 22:01

That was to Yonic.

Treaclepot · 07/01/2015 22:10

Jesus, I just googled gay rape homosexual to find some statistics about how many men who rape men aren't gay but use rape for violence and domination.

On the first page three of the sites where porn sites called shit like 'rapeporn.com'. No better if you change male for female though.

Anyway, I think he wouldn't be playing again if he was being done for male rape especially if the man was straight, if he was gay it may be a bit more muddled. Though then he wouldn't play as there are no openly gay men in football.

sausageeggbacon11 · 08/01/2015 08:49

Well I would guess it would be similar to reporting rape in as much as it wouldn't be reported in the first place. Telegraph article about male/male assault here.

GraysAnalogy · 10/01/2015 04:13

I don't really understand what you mean sausage it's probably me being stupid but could you perhaps reword what you just said so I can give it another go Blush

debbriana · 12/01/2015 01:11

This is a joke right? If he had raped another man we would not have heard of it. Why? Because most men who are raped or a bused either by women or men don't report it.
This is not taking it away from the amount of women who sit in silence. We all know more women get abused and raped . We also have more refuge centres to turn to if they wanted to when they can. I would not say the same for men. Just because they are dominating in a lot of things does not mean there are no men that surfer. Rape is rape. That is how I see it.

In terms of who would be treated fairly. Most people would have laughed it off. Taken as a joke. It's a different case with young boys.

With women it depends with the media or even the police. It's had to compare because I know there are so many people who had their cases thrown out but then you do have those that the media will believe. I don't know why they do so with some and not others.
