At last Sheffield United have done the decent thing.

There have of course been convictions following the tweets sent by 'supporters' that CE has never distanced himself from or repudiated in any way.

Press report here

"There have of course been convictions following the tweets sent by 'supporters' that CE has never distanced himself from or repudiated in any way."

What does that have to do with the article you linked to?

scaevola · 21/12/2014 16:41

I cannot find out when the unnamed firefighter discovered those tweets (I assume the account I found online is incomplete/garbled/just plain wrong as it doesn't appear to make techie sense as written. But for this to make a difference to a legal defence, he would have given a fuller statement. Anyone know where that exists?

As her friends were named, then presumably they too have given statements about their recollection of the messages. If this happened before the trial, the only conclusion is that they did not outweigh other evidence. I'm tending to assume that it was before the trial, as discovery of new evidence would have featured in applying for appeal and it does not seem to have been.

"What does that have to do with the article you linked to?"

My apologies. That article quotes a selection of tweets by his supporters, but does not confirm that they were the ones which led to the convictions which are, of course, a matter of public record.

Perhaps you will find this BBC article more relevant?

MrSheen · 21/12/2014 16:50

I really struggle to see the relevance of the tweets or, indeed the victim evidence in this case.

CE told the police what he had done. His problem is not that she lied or tweeted some bollocks 5 months later, but that CE doesn't know what consent is, or rape, or indeed sex.

SirChenjin · 21/12/2014 16:55

You're floundering a bit here yussetec - do you have anything more substantive?

sanfairyanne · 21/12/2014 16:56

cant mn just ban these posters?

PuffinsAreFictitious · 21/12/2014 16:57

That is the complete point, MrSheen the rapist Evans convicted himself. His own statements showed that he had no concept of consent, that he hadn't bothered to get or even enquire as to whether or not he had her consent. He just raped her.

Tweets made 5 months later are largely irrelevant. That some people want to make them so means they have a slippy grasp on what rape actually is, and on what possible gains a woman who has had to go into hiding and change her identity twice might feasibly have got.

YonicSleighdriver · 21/12/2014 16:58

The more reports the better, SFA.

DawnMumsnet · 21/12/2014 17:25

@sanfairyanne

cant mn just ban these posters?

Indeed we can. And have. Wink

Thanks all for reporting that one.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 21/12/2014 17:28

oof another one bites the dust Smile

AskBasil4StuffingRecipe · 21/12/2014 22:13

"It's not uncommon for men to be convicted of rape, spend years in prison then be released after new evidence arises or the accuser changes her story"

Where do these rape apologists get their notions from?

This is just so rare. It is incredibly rare for men to be convicted of rape even when they did it, let alone when they didn't.

sashh · 22/12/2014 07:41

Again - what did the trial judge have to say about the FB posts/Twitter feeds?

Nothing.

The police could not find them, only some guy in the US who is an evan's fan, says they once existed.

he was also asked by evans' sister to 'hack' her facebook account.

Off course the deleting of 2.5 years of abusive messages from his gf, sister and mother is not suspicious, no not at all.

Evans has a new twitter account and has deleted all but one message now.

Anonnynonny · 22/12/2014 09:18

I hope this is allowed, it's a link to my site as it's relevant to this thread - we've given the Hartlepool manager a #NotNorman award for trivialising rape. I think it was the use of the word "boy" about this bloody rapist that really irritated me.

[[http://normanawards.com/2014/12/21/note-to-football-managers-rape-is-not-a-mistake/ Rape is not a mistake"

Anonnynonny · 22/12/2014 09:18

oops

Rape is not a mistake

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 22/12/2014 11:22

Good post, Anonny

Re: Boy. Pleased to hear it.

YonicSleighdriver · 22/12/2014 13:47

Sorry, cadno, I don't follow?
