Ghostbusters 3 will star an all female cast.

I'm normally anti remake and throwing out a sequel 20 years after the fact...but I'm just impressed Hollywood is willing to risk alienating a massive fan base by starring women...and willing to star women in an action comedy which is an almost exclusively male genre.

Most of the comments I have seen have been negative because, "women don't like Ghostbusters so won't go the seen the film anyway so what is the point?" Hmm and, "men won't go see women because women aren't funny". Hmm Hmm Angry

Call me cynical but I wonder how their uniforms will look? Somehow I can't see them being allowed to be covered up in shapeless boiler suits like the men were.

susiedaisy · 09/10/2014 08:50

I would look forward to it as long as they aren't dressed in ridiculous outfits.

FuckOffFerret · 09/10/2014 08:52

I think Melissa Mccarthy has been mentioned as a possible cast member and been backed by Bill Murray. She's never been "sexed up" inn any of her roles. Not saying they won't have some of the cast occasionally dolled up, but I think they're going to have to roll out the boiler suits. How can they not?

how promising. it's one of those things where you think, well why couldn't it be all women?

YonicScrewdriver · 09/10/2014 09:26

Yes, this is good.

Wtf women don't like Ghostbusters? Surely it's a pretty sex neutral in appeal film? Like Back to the Future? Or The Goonies? Or Nuns on the Run?

FuckOffFerret · 09/10/2014 09:31

Only dude-bros like Ghostbusters truefact. Women all just watch Sex and the City. Chicks don't like action or ghosts or beer or swearing. mumsnet implodes

God I hope it is good , cos you know that all women will be judged as unfunny if it isn't. (unlike any film with an all male cast reflecting on all men)

FuckOffFerret · 09/10/2014 09:37

That is my one concern norma. If this turns in to a pile of shit it will be the women's fault and it will be another decade before anyone makes a female fronted action film. I also think it will be judge 10 times more harshly than if it were the exact same film but with penii.

*I know that's not a real word, but I want it to be.

But the stay puff marshmallow man is so cute and soft and fluffy-girly!

(I did actually think this when the original came out Blush)

FuckOffFerret · 09/10/2014 09:46

He is lovely.

As a female sci-fi fan I'll be keeping my eye on any casting announcements on the movie. I'm hoping for an interesting cast like the original GB men but I fear that focus groups will result in famous names and predictable characters like a shallow dumb blonde, Asian nerd etc.

enderwoman · 09/10/2014 10:38

I'd say that Sigourney Weaver (in Alien) is probably the female sci-fi star most respected by men. I wonder if she will make a cameo?

TerrariaMum · 09/10/2014 11:49

Actually, wouldn't it be kind of neat if it were Dana Barrett who restarted it? Being a leader instead of the damsel?

Dervel · 09/10/2014 15:14

Massive Ghostbusters fan as a kid, looking forward to the next one. No reason why it couldn't be an all woman team, but yes they have to have the iconic boiler suits. I'm more excited by Katie Dippold's hiring I absolutely love Parks & Recreation and she's written some very good episodes for it.

Yeah some people will no doubt be up in arms about it, but then again there were people up in arms about Ian McKellen playing Gandalf because he was gay which was beyond me. As long as it's well written and funny I'm in, and happy to have another Ghostbusters flick.

WeAreGroot · 09/10/2014 15:29

I'm cautiously excited. It could be fantastic and a real victory for female led films however there's a real risk it could end up falling into the bottomless pit of dreadful Hollywood stereotypes and tropes.

enderwoman That would be fantastic. Sigourney Weaver does seem quite up for stuff like that, she's recently done voice acting for the recently released Alien: Isolation game (which incidentally is an excellent game with a decent plot and a well written female player character).

nobutreally · 09/10/2014 15:35

Sigourney was in the original as well of course - admittedly playing a reasonably horrific femme fatale character - so a cameo would be rather neat....

spence82 · 09/10/2014 18:10

I'm a big ghostbusters fan and I've heard Tina fey will be involved as well who I'm a big fan of.

I'm surprised they are making it still after the death of harold ramis though.

AngelsSin · 09/10/2014 18:31

I really hope this will be good, I loved ghost busters as a kid (why do men consider themselves such experts on what women as a whole like/don't like?).

I got the marshmallow man and the mitcheline man confused as a kid and as I had to walk past a huge statue of the mitcheline man on my way home from school everyday, I had nightmares about him coming to life and chasing me!

Hassled · 09/10/2014 18:33

In theory I'm very pleased but equally - if there is to be a Ghostbusters3, it can't possibly not have Bill Murray in it. God, I love that man.

Anniegetyourgun · 09/10/2014 19:56

"It's true, Your Honour. This man has no dick."

One of the great classic one-liners, sadly seldom heard because it was bowdlerised for general release.

spence82 · 09/10/2014 20:00

Hassled from I what I remember reading from when the film was first proposed Dan akyroyd and Harold ramis both said bill Murray wasn't keen and if he was going to be in it he wanted to be killed off in the first scene.

Hassled · 09/10/2014 20:23

That's a shame.
Apparently Bill Murray runs up to strangers, hugs them and then whispers "no-one will ever believe you" :o. That's the sort of god he is.

SevenZarkSeven · 09/10/2014 20:42

I would see it for sure and I bet my girls would both love it! Although they haven't seen the original yet as it's a bit scary we all dance to the song on just dance and I always get to the the green slime thing and chase them Grin

WeAreGroot · 09/10/2014 20:46

Anniehetyourgun For years the only copy of Ghostbusters I had access to was a video my parents recorded from the TV. I was amazed when I finally saw the uncut version on DVD, they positively butchered it for TV!
