Scottish TV reporting of rape

Did anyone see a report about a woman being raped in Edinburgh on the 6pm news tonight ? I was absolutely furious at the way it was reported. One of the first things police officer said was that she was wearing headphones - thereby implying she should have been more careful. Secondly the reporter then did a piece to camera in which he said ' the women was not physically hurt but was badly shaken' Not physically hurt???!!!!! I don't know if it was on BBC or STV so if any Scottish mumsnetters can tell me which one I am going to contact them and complain. I'm so sick of women getting the blame for being raped.

Have now read all your responses and am glad you share my anger.
Squtternut -sorry about your mum. Not unrelated rant at all.

Chunky - your point about people who are paid to use language to influence ..yy that is one of the reasons why I have written to STV complaints. Its apauling that the media (who let's face it is is mostly owned and run by men) use language that judges women's behaviour.
Mymum - yes iswym but he mentioned the headphones as the first point about the women's ordeal and did not qualify it as something to be aware of. That's why I felt that there was some victim blaming going on.
Anyway STV say email's are responded to in 10 days so I will post again to update.

Good for you Mimi. It is only through feedback like this that the TV station will take any action to change the way they do things. As a marketer, I have emailed similar complaints to a company who used sex to sell eg, cat food! Yes, an ad which lingered over a curvaceous woman's body and decolletage to sell cat food. Haven't seen that ad in a while, so I suspect they are in discussions with their advertising agency about creating a different type of ad for the near future. Twats Hmm.

Keep on them, remember in the world of media and marketing, one complaint to a company tells them that there are 9 others who feel the same way that the complainant does, but did not bother to tell them about it. That is why one complaint can generate change. This works especially well if it is a company trying to sell you a product. In the case of the TV station, tell them you will stop watching them (and move to Competitor X), which will lower their advertising revenue - they won't like that.

PS I would also email the actual news program that you saw the report on - this will get much more traction as the producers behind the news program will be far more interested in your complaint.

Thanks Zazzles I will do that.
