Big fat trigger warning. I've never seen such hyper sexualised violence agaisnt women in a music video before. And considering that's pretty much all videos now, I think that says a lot.

i must be hard as i don't really see the fuss made here. it's just a silly video really not really artistic or saying much or a story, just meh.

astra - the fact that you can't even see what might be problematic in that video is the bizarrest thing I have heard.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 03/10/2014 19:08

Calm down ladies, Astra can't see a problem with a video where stalking, violence against women and a sexual bloodbath are glorified and made pretty. So I'm sure there isn't one, ok?

Jeez! Feminists and your seeing things for what they really are and shit!

Grin
southeastastra · 03/10/2014 19:09

well maybe you should get out more msrissotto

sorry i can't fake being upset over it

i can't imagine my teenager would be affected by the video one jot

ChildrenOfTheDamned · 03/10/2014 19:31

As a feminist I am fucking appalled at the video, it's awful! But as me, I'm ashamed to say I like the video, I'm quite fascinated by it in a horror movie type way. Confused And I quite like the song too. Blush

FuckOffFerret · 03/10/2014 19:32

DId you watch through to the end where he imagines sneaking in to her bed while she sleeps and then fucking her in puddles of blood?

Because I think stalking/sexual assault/ and sexualising violence against women are fuss worthy.

What are we doing to teenage boys by giving them hyper sexualised visions of violence against women? It's going to affect them and not in a good way. The result is it will hurt women.

well maybe you should get out more msrissotto

What does that even mean in this context? Confused

OP posts:
southeastastra · 03/10/2014 19:42

er she said that was the bizarrest thing she'd heard

sorry i am not worked up by this video and i am sure a million teenage boys wouldn't be either.

blimey can i not just state that i don't get the fuss on here without the abuse

feminism should also be allowed to say what you think

southeastastra · 03/10/2014 19:44

maybe as i am also a fan of some horror is the reason why i find it meh.

it's a copy of a thousand horror films of the past.

FuckOffFerret · 03/10/2014 19:47

You don't have to be worked up about it, but saying you can't see any of the problems that have been mentioned IS bizzare. You haven't been given any abuse, you've been disagreed with.

Why do people always think feminism means doing or saying whatever you want without challenge? People say the same about free speech. Doesn't make any sense. You can say you think it's fine I can say I think that's ridiculous.

OP posts:
southeastastra · 03/10/2014 19:53

well puffins post was passive aggressive.

wondering if i misunderstand the word bizarre now.

well you have to back up with facts and i have done that, there are countless films released with worse female violence but they don't warrant a whisper on mn, yet a 2nd rate video gets everyone all mary whitehoused up

MamaMary · 03/10/2014 20:01

We should all complain to OfCom. It is simply unacceptable that this should be broadcast in the UK (or anywhere). It's glorifying stalking women, rape, blood, violence against women

YonicScrewdriver · 03/10/2014 20:02

The hell? Someone isn't allowed to object to one thing unless they object to everything?

I find it very easy to stop my 10 yo accessing horror films. Going by the way Blurred Lines cropped up any and everywhere, I find it harder to stop her accessing music lyrics and videos.

southeastastra · 03/10/2014 20:14

what does 'the hell' mean

YonicScrewdriver · 03/10/2014 20:15

Means what the hell!

minkymuskyslyoldstoaty · 03/10/2014 20:17

i feel very strange having watched that. It's really disgusting.

I watched a documentary last night called Mummy's Little Murderer, and it's stayed with me all day. Seeing that video beggars belief, and this is mainstream 'entertainment'??

:(

FuckOffFerret · 03/10/2014 20:31

Maroon 5 are hardly "Niche". The worst horror films are rated to to keep young children and teenagers away from them. This is a pop group releasing a video featuring sexual violence to a wide audience.

What are the rules for reporting to Offcom Mary?

Grim. Not only disturbing and violent and all kinds of scary but also FUCKING WEIRD. Adam swinging off slabs of meat and meat hooks? It's all a bit wrecking ball, but with dead cows and more sexual violence.

MamaMary · 03/10/2014 21:12

OfCom are the standards regulators. Anything broadcast on any station in the UK is subject to OfCom. This has to breach their guidelines. My laptop has died so I can't go on their website right now - can someone else have a look? I'll check as soon as can get access.

The difference between this and porn is that porn is not actually broadcast,so it's not subject to the same rules.
