Peter Nunn sent tweets threatening rape and drowning to Stella Creasy and Caroline Criado-Perez, during the debate about putting a woman on one of the bank notes. He described them as witches.

He has a three year old daughter and a partner.

Where does a man find such hatred and venom for women as a gender when he has a female family, and presumably loves his child? I just can't understand it.

Tunip, agree that "ideal victim" cases can be easier to bring to justice but not sure if you've seen kujo's other posts on FWR?

PetulaGordino · 30/09/2014 08:53

i do agree tunip. sorry, kujo was being an arse elsewhere and it filtered through to the comment on this thread

TunipTheUnconquerable · 30/09/2014 08:59

Ah ok thanks, I hadn't seen Kujo's other posts - sorry!

PetulaGordino · 30/09/2014 09:01

no, you make a fair point. perhaps it would be better to have taken this comment at face value rather than allow the trolling on other parts of the board to influence responses here

YonicScrewdriver · 30/09/2014 09:26

I don't think kujo meant it to be taken at face value though: there was no "whilst this was a good result, if the victims..." Type intro.

YonicScrewdriver · 30/09/2014 09:29

And it is a fairly "new" crime that many don't think IS a crime (including the criminals!) so I am glad for initial results as they will hopefully blaze a trail for future, less high profile/ideal victims.

Going by kujo's other posts on FWR and his formulaic username, I would guess he is our regular previously banned user, is an internet troll himself, and thus not a million miles from the man who has been jailed.

PetulaGordino · 30/09/2014 10:08

yy, suspect it's our old friend consonantvowel-consonantvowel...

i was thinking of the lurkers tbh. i don't think the comment, while worth exploring in principle, was intended as anything but a derail

BarbarianMum · 30/09/2014 10:36

YY IME that sort of twisted disdain/hatred/fear is never far under the surface. Men like this can be quite genial and even protective of women provided they know their place/don't threaten their very large and fragile egos. Then, watch out.

Personally I hope his partner takes her daughter and runs for the hills.

WhyTheCagedBirdTweets · 30/09/2014 10:58

This is such a worrying trend. Whilst the behaviour itself is nothing new, per se, the internet has opened up an unprecedented ability to attack others and I wonder what teenagers make of it; do they now consider it 'normal' behaviour to attack people online in the most violent (and vile) ways possible? I think there is a very clear message about misogyny here, but we shouldn't lose track of the fact that this isn't just bigoted men vs public women, but endemic outside of that single instance too.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 30/09/2014 11:13

I think rather than send a message about not attacking women online, it is sending a message that the internet is not some free-for-all space where you can say whatever you want without any consequences. So while this particular case is a feminist issue, it's also hopefully showing people that if you would get in trouble for screaming those words at someone in the street, you shouldn't scream them over twitter either.

That pic of Nunn in the link gives me the absolute creeps. There is something menacing and, and....weird about him. I know its only a moment in time, but geeze that pic tells the proverbial thousand words. No wonder Stella Creasy and Caroline Criado-Perez felt so threatened. I am glad that he got some time in the slammer, and that the judge felt strongly enough to make sure that the sentence was effective immediately.
