I was just thinking how few of these there are.
(Films where the title is a woman's name)

I know I don't need to tell the fwr board how sexist Hollywood is but this marker is a really obvious sign of this.

There are so many good stories that could be told about fictional or real women's lives. Filmmakers are really missing a beat imo.

Off the top of my head I can only think of

Erin Brockovitch
Salt
Elizabeth
Emma
Charlotte Grey ?
Shirley Valentine
Pocahontas

showing my age here -

Barbarella -Jane Fonda
Julia- Vanessa Redgrave
Anne of a 1000 days - about Anne Boleyn
Tess of the D'Uberavilles
the Rose - Bett Midler
Ann of Green Gables

I'm going to be thinking of this allllll day!

Ok if we are adding other words to the women's names I am saying
Chasing Amy

which was the first one I thought of.

"Amy" is only a subject of chasing in the title; and in the film, she isn't even real, just a cipher, a figment. but when I saw it, it articulated something really important for me

DPotter · 25/08/2014 01:39

The Rose was the name of the character Bette Midler played - a sort of Janice Joplin singer type

Philomena
The Passion of Joan of Arc
Marnie
Run Lola Run
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
Arrietty
The Story of Adele H

The Queen Grin
Victor / Victoria

damnandblast · 29/08/2014 05:57

Precious - less white-centric than some. Mariah Carey was great in that.
