Lived over 60 years with full male privileges - Check
Rose to the top of a male-dominated profession - Check
Right-wing political candidate for UKIP - Check
Homophobic public comments - Check
Believes in family values and traditional morality - Check
Believes in a 'female brain' (like people used to believe in a 'negro brain' and a 'Jewish brain') - Check

Nasty radical feminists are meant to be the reactionary ones but, to me, it is the transactivist movement that is conservative, homophobic and longs for the days when homosexuality was criminalised and men were men and women were women.

So is VAW a stated aim of these wannabe "alpha" types?

I'm not sure, Seven. It does seem that a lot of men who would profile as those most likely to commit VAW would classify themselves to be 'alpha'. There's the whole concept of a friendzone, which states that women owe men sex if those men are nice to them. It doesn't transfer to men owing other men sex if they lend them money/take them out for a meal/help them out, but if the alpha type does that for a woman, then, she needs to be spreading her legs or she is a Really Bad Person, and the man has been Friend Zoned.

It doesn't stand up to much logical scrutiny. The type of person that believes in it is probably not going to be running for logician of the year anyway. Grin

promisedyouarosegarden · 14/08/2014 14:19

Rosegarden, you are being incredibly rude. You cannot possibly know the lives or minds of strangers on the internet and be more capable of them of knowing their gender identity. You are moving far beyond trans activism and into some kind of totalitarian way of thinking where you get to define other people's brains into sub categories based on your own personal ideology.

I really don't think that I have been incredibly rude in the slightest. I have made no personal attacks or thrown around words like lady brain and totes to try and make others look daft I just wanted to join in with the conversation with my differing point of view.

I opened this thread as trans issues are of personal interest to me at the moment, for reasons I have explained. I was quite taken aback to see so many people rejecting the idea of gender and all I have basically posted is that I believe it to be innate. How that is any more rude than others posting that it isn't innate, I don't know.

I'm leaving the thread now as this topic is real for me and my family right now, not just abstract feminist debate. I can't answer the questions as I don't have scientific answers, just my beliefs.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/08/2014 14:22

Don't you think misgendering someone is a personal attack, promised?

It seems to be (rightly, IMO) when it's done to people like Kellie. Why are you allowed to attribute a gender to us when we don't identify with it.

I'm ok with you having beliefs rather than scientific answers, but I do feel it is deeply disingenuous to claim you know of differences between male and female brains, then refuse to elaborate. Could it be because you realize that these differences will line up rather neatly with discrimination?

CaptChaos · 14/08/2014 14:22

But.... we have given you scientific answers to your questions. It has been shown, in study after study that there is no such thing as a male brain and a female brain.

I'm really sorry you're not able to hear those answers, but, and I mean this kindly, beliefs don't trump reality. Ever.

SevenZarkSeven · 14/08/2014 14:22

it's not abstract feminist debate.

gender fucks up the lives of squillions of poeple around the world every single day.

it is very very important. it affects the lives of everyone in every country in the world every single day.

SevenZarkSeven · 14/08/2014 14:23

what is abstract debate is when a man comes on and tells us how we should feel about something which he is never going to experience.

that happens with depressing frequency.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/08/2014 14:27

I have reported posts that persistently engage in misgendering me and others, including when, rose, you had been told it was offensive.

I would, to be honest, prefer no posts were deleted as it seems a bit crap to me, but I do feel that if misgendering is unacceptable, it should be unacceptable for all.

SevenZarkSeven · 14/08/2014 14:31

CaptChaos thanks for explanation!

Always handy to know which men to advise the kids to keep away from Grin

Sadly a lot of men do think that if he is friends with a woman she owes him sex. Like a lot of seemingly nice, normal men. Another thread though Smile

CKDexterHaven · 14/08/2014 14:33

Transwoman Voz Latina has said on Twitter 'Save a woman, kill a feminist. Preferably before she kills one more of us.'

Personally I believe you can tell someone's true sex by the amount of death and rape threats they issue to women who disagree with them. Voz Latina and his ilk are not only men but male extremists.

That Glosswitch blog is excellent.

CKDexterHaven · 14/08/2014 14:35

There were scientists in the past who lined up to say there was a 'negro brain'. Scientists aren't always independent, unbiased, noble individuals free of agenda.

flora - she is very good.

SevenZarkSeven · 14/08/2014 14:40

So I deserve to be murdered? People are being encouraged to kill me?

That seems a bit off.

almondcakes · 14/08/2014 14:41

I am tired of hearing that argument too, Rosegarden.

I am a real person with a real life and real feelings. I amtelling you about my feelings and family.

You are the one having an abstract debate by making up an ideology and applying it to the minds and identity of strangers.

Whoops DD saw that over my shoulder and said "what do you mean"?

I had to say "dont; worry it's just a joke"

It's not a joke though is it.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/08/2014 14:45

Not really, no, seven. Sad

It's men who generally kill transwomen isn't it?

And women, and girls, and boys, and gay men, and straight men...

Hmmm.

Who is being incited to kill in these twitter posts, who are they aimed at?

BriarRainbowshimmer · 14/08/2014 14:46

I searched for the reddit thread and found it. They want to beat us with biology books because then we would learn something, or 50 shades of Grey because that would be kinky. They feel sorry for the books though because the book would get bigot smear on it.

SevenZarkSeven · 14/08/2014 14:47

I mean, if men do all the killing, are the twitter posts being aimed at (cis)men? Do they read a lot of transactivist posts?

That seems unlikely to me. Who are they telling to do the killing?

CKDexterHaven · 14/08/2014 14:48

I've just seen the message from Mumsnet HQ. I appreciate they are dealing with a controversial subject and they are being a lot braver than other sites but, to me, being forced to use 'she' for someone I know to be a man is like someone being forced to say they believe in God when they don't. Why does the patriarchal belief trump the feminist belief?

OP posts:
CaptChaos · 14/08/2014 14:49

Save a woman, kill a feminist. Preferably before she kills one more of us.

Does Voz Latina have any examples of actual trans*women who have been actually killed by actual feminists at all? Outside her fevered imagination, I mean.

And no, Seven, it's not a joke. The pictures of young people on Twitter and elsewhere holding knives and asking people to slit the throats of feminists and their friends are not funny.

What about my husband and children, capt, are they to have their throats cut too?

I find this a little disturbing to say the least.
