Policing other women. Rant alert.

I don't care if I get flamed.
A lot of feminists seem to think they have been appointed the Women Police who can then go around shaming other women for the things that are “not ok”. E.g Makeup, shaving, wearing pink, and more “crimes against feminism” and punishable by social attacks.A lot of online feminists seem to be petty dictators marching around and telling women what “true feminism” is and how I'm constantly being kept down by the “Patriarchy” because I'm a woman.
To be honest I'm starting to get a bit sick of it. In western society equality exists for everyone, right now. We have the same rights as men. I respect both genders and surely that is enough to me.
I was recently told I was letting down the progress of women by being a stay at home mum, marrying my husband and taking his last name and letting him being the breadwinner. I have had enough. I don't like the word feminist, it's tainted and all I picture when it's used is some angry, red headed woman, wearing thick rimmed glasses not letting anyone else get a word in.

This woman comes to mind.

Policing other women. Rant alert.

Where's the OP? I assuming she'll be back to tell us how horrible and unwelcoming the nasty feminists on FWR are.

Yes balls the irony.

OP how have you heard of the woman in the picture? She seems like an unusual person to just sort of know about IYSWIM. Has she been mentioned on other sites you are on / blogs / something?

ballsballsballs · 15/06/2014 21:31

So now I know that straw feminists have red hair and wear glasses.

Every day's a schoolday.

Charitygirl1 · 15/06/2014 21:39

Let's just say it! Too thick to post. Next!

PenguinsHatchedAnEgg · 15/06/2014 22:04

Oh I know, I know. I shouldn't answer these things seriously. But there are people on MN and in RL who I know and who think like this.

AnyFucker · 15/06/2014 22:18

I think OP is real in the sense of having actual molecules and cells 'n' stuff i.e not a computer generated spambot

Whether the opinions expressed thereof are worth jackshit is another matter

To wander off-topic for a second...

Do you think 'I don't care if i get flamed'/'flame all you want' type phrase has started to replace 'I know it's not politically correct'/'I'm not a racist but...' as a prelude to amazingly dimwitted pronouncements?

I'm sure I've seen it popping up a lot recently. Mostly on MN. Hmm

AnyFucker · 15/06/2014 23:20

I think I agree with that, Boulevard

"I'm not a X (insert "ist" of your choice), but...." replaced by "I will get flamed for this, but...."

sausageeggbacon11 · 16/06/2014 11:08

My boys love that video. In fact I think anytime MRAs find someone trying to shut them up they roll out that video. No that is not every woman or every feminist. Generalisms hurt the argument.

However on the topic of policing other women of course areas of feminism do that. The strippers who make a choice and then get told they can't have made a choice and they are silenced. The women who see male sexual desire as something that isn't a crime but natural are told no that is objectification and your opinion is wrong. Objectification doesn't lead to rape, repression seems a more likely cause.

But my opinions don't always match the general opinions here which is fine unless people here want to deny me the right to have an opinion no matter how different which would be policing!

No sausage being disagreed with isn't being silenced. Unless of course you wish to silence me by saying I'm silencing you by disagreeing

a daft circle

LineRunner · 16/06/2014 12:56

I fail to see how saying to a sexual entertainment worker something like, 'That's not much of a choice, though, is it?' is silencing them.

I rather thought it was having a grown up conversation.

Given that the actual real live women who have come on from time to time, who work in those industries don't feel silenced, I find it hard to work out how someone who doesn't, does.

'Choosing' various types of sex work under patriarchy isn't a real viable choice. Hobson's choice is no choice at all.

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 16/06/2014 15:24

Haven't RTFT but has anyone done,

Are you OK op?

yet? because I feel like the OP warrants it.

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 16/06/2014 15:32

Op has only been posting since Saturday.
But interestingly posted on the 'Why is MN so full of rage' thread yesterday at 4:30, to state how not full of rage she was. Then two hours later felt the need to post the this thread Hmm

AmazingMorning Sun 15-Jun-14 16:36:54

No rage here but I everyone has been raging on here recently a disturbance in the force?
