'Asking for it'

Hi
Can you help me with my DM?
Since marrying my DSF she's developed - or maybe rediscovered sensibilities I find disturbing.
I won't bore you with the claptrap on gay marriage, the most recent conversation was regarding women 'asking for it' ie rape, through their dress/ behaviour.
I was ashamed that I couldn't counter with anything other than - ' no one in their right minds asks to be subject to any violent act'. Please explain to me in words of one syllable why, evidently, no woman asks for it
She was a JP for several years, I could weep.

I'm sorry, I'm not very up on teen slang.

Montmorency1 · 30/05/2014 01:13

You are quite capable of formulating an appropriate search-engine query on your own.

I actually think Montmorency is a man. A particular sort of man as well.

He posts in that arrogant mansplainy way where he expects us all to defer to him.

Also he posts in an opaque, convoluted, pompous and unreadable shit.

I'm ignoring him as best I can but I think people should be aware of just what he's doing and not allow him to derail or monopolise the threads the way he has done. He's not here with a good intent.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/05/2014 10:08

You don't say, basil?

scallopsrgreat · 30/05/2014 10:11

To coin FloraFox on another thread: Nail. Head Basil

CaptChaos · 30/05/2014 10:22

Neither know nor care if Mont is male, female or something in between. They sound like an arrogant young teenager trying out new words on adults they think are a bit dim iyswim.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/05/2014 10:24

May I borrow your Nail, scallops. Chaos has it again.

StormyBrid · 30/05/2014 11:19

I might not agree with how it's put across, but I can see what Mont is getting at. To a man inclined to rape, the mere existence of a woman is provocation enough. Not anything a woman does, just her existing in a place in which he has opportunity. I'm not convinced provocation is the right word for it though, because it suggests blame; that it's the woman's fault for daring to exist. Which is of course a hideous and abhorrent view.
