You do make it sound like it's rare to come across a man who isn't a rapist Chibli.

chibi · 17/05/2014 18:09

oh- women's oppression is a stereotype.

ok, cheers, thanks for the liberation, mate

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/05/2014 18:09

'And TBH Chibi attacking people who are on the side of feminism is not really that helpful.'

So why the heck are you doing it?! I thought we got on. I feel really attacked by this thread and I'm afraid I am having a feministy sense of humour failure and taking it quite personally.

so as long as you say you're a feminist, any old antiwoman junk you spout is not to be questioned?

haw haw haw

kinsorange · 17/05/2014 18:13

By "you" I mean any feminist, particularly those on this thread.

You[and here I mean LRD] always seem to enjoy words the most out of everything.
You [LRD in particular] seem to very much enjoy debating and the use of words.

In ireland, after the troubles abated somewhat, some of them kept on with what they were doing. Because they cared more about the scene and drama etc, rather than the actual issue.
It seems that the same can be said of some[note the word of some!] feminists.

I think you're attacking, frankly.

I am really sick fed up to the back teeth of trying to mediate between you and transphobes because you're upset, and having you kick it all back in my face by telling me that I'm doing feminism all wrong, that I should change to suit you in order to be 'taken seriously,' but defining 'people' in such a way that I cease to be a person.

You haven't even bothered to apologize or acknowledge that you're being completely hypocritical here. You're saying we should all use 'men' the way you like it, but you're using 'people' as default to exclude us.

Do you realize how fucking insulting that was?

TiggyD · 17/05/2014 18:15

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/05/2014 18:15

kins - I do enjoy words. I am not sure that 'enjoyment' is what I expect to get out of a debate about male oppression of women.

Oh, I see.

You're not telling me personally.

You're just speaking generally, right?

When you excluded me from your definition of people, it wasn't personal - why get upset?

It's not as if I were a man and had been generalized about, is it? That would really matter. :-(

I forgot, only you're allowed to generalize. Or, it seems to express personal opinions.

Truth makes things stronger.
Saying "some" makes things stronger, not weaker, because it is the truth.
Truth makes things stronger.

In what way does that help anyone but the complacent majority who are pretty comfortable and don't like being associated with unpalatable things like oppression?

If you are not appealing to them, who are you appealing to? Or are you merely talking amongst yourselves. In which case, fair enough. Say whatever you want to and however you want to say it.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/05/2014 18:27

Ahhh, but it's truth that only applies to us, isn't it?

It doesn't apply to you.

You are above 'truth'.

You get to generalize about 'people' with impunity.

Why is that, exactly?

kinsorange · 17/05/2014 18:29

I am not afraid of men. Any man. I am a christian. I pray to God. And he either chooses to protect me, or lets me get hurt. Normally the former obviously. Never actually got hurt by a man or woman yet.
