Do you feel that the oppression of trans people is built into the structure and fabric of society in the way that the oppression of women is? Do you feel that cispeople are colluding in the oppression of trans people by the way they function in society?

Tiggy I'm sorry you feel that way, the men that I've spoken to don't feel like that. They know they aren't violent, so they don't really see themselves as being part of the subset of men who are. Maybe that's the difference?

Martorana · 18/05/2014 09:23

"I am not making this about me or trans people. I am just trying to point out that any member of an oppressor group can react with a "well, I don't do that" way or can derail discussions when someone who is oppressed tries to discuss and name their oppression."

If a man says this about the oppression of women, it is actually not true. A man who functions within the patriarchy is tacitly colluding in the oppression of women. I don't know of another group where this is true.

it really takes an epic level of narcissism to feel that the most important thing about a sentence like 'men benefit from structural oppression' is the feelings of nice men who are sure this doesn't apply to them.

i am more vehement about not pussyfooting around here, because, unlike real life, i don't need to worry too much about some man who takes issue with my thoughts becoming violent

Martorana · 18/05/2014 09:37

Are people questioning the truth of "men benefit from structural oppression"?

chibi · 18/05/2014 09:37

most terrorism in the uk is NOT carried out by muslims. if anything, there have been plenty of attacks against muslims, here in the uk, because they are muslim

this is the second time you've made a specious comparison between male violence (which is frequent) with muslim terrorism (rare in the uk)

some people might think you are racist, stirring, or just mathematically incompetent.

me, i reckon it's all three Grin

that's not what you said though

you said most terrorism in the uk was committed by muslims

that is a comparison, but a totally incorrect one

it would be like me saying most trans people are mathematically incompetent racists- when really, only one is, and fairly recently at that

Black people are criminals.

I will not "placate their narcissism" by putting nuance in that. Obviously everyone knows that there is an implied "some", and that I am not talking about literally every black person, just black people as a class. Hmm

chibi · 18/05/2014 09:46

do mumsnet have a policy on racist hate speech

you are far more likely to experience attacks because you are a muslim, than an attack by muslims

posts implying that most terrorist attacks in the UK are by muslims are one reason why Sad

Martorana · 18/05/2014 09:47

"t's been said on FWR before. Not on this thread but elsewhere."

Ah, right. So you're objecting to something somebody else said somewhere else.
