What are feminists actually like?

Before I start, I'm not here to bash on about anything or anyone.

So, I'm not a woman myself, and i'll probably get banned for being a man on a 'mums' website, but anyway.

What are feminists actually like? There seems to be varied and mixed feelings towards you feminists. I've visited many sites and know many people who claim feminism is simply the idea of superiority and entitlements for woman, from posters, demonstrations and the media, im honestly starting to believe this. Can any woman actually give me a real insight into what you believe and what you think, and if feminism is actually needed in first world countries.
This is a pretty much useless post, just wanted to get thought from both sides.

Thank you. Its also quite late at night and i'm tired so this may not be worded perfectly.

And the "pay gap" is a myth too. Men don't receive more pay for the same work. Men as a whole receive more pay because as a whole men work more hours than women and more men are in full time work than women.

You aren't oppressed and there isn't a rapist lurking around every single corner. Quit the victim mentality.

OK soxuhope.

Your aspiringeconomist link relates to a statistic of 1 in 4 women having been raped or experiencing attempted rape - no mention of sexual assault there. I also think that the original question about 'did you have sex when you didn't want to' absolutely does not equate to 'regretting a one night stand'. Interesting that the assumption of the comment is that sex you don't want only happens outside longer-term relationships.

This overview of sexual offences in the UK contains a figure of 1 in 5 women aged 16 - 59 having had a sexual offence done to them (I'm trying to avoid the word victim here since you dislike it). This includes unwanted touching and indecent exposure, which clearly are much less serious than rape, and not necessarily anything more than inconvenient. Even the most minor incident can have surprising repercussions in your life, however, and of course the impact of the offence doesn't change the fact that it happened. It is not very nice for someone to decide that it's OK to grab your cunt, in the open street, as you're getting your key out to go into your house. It says 'you are a cunt'. I thought i was just a person going about my business. Naturally I didn't report it, as 85% of people who experience that sort of thing apparently don't according to that link. But the bottom line is that as a female I appear to be six times more likely to experience that kind of offence than a male. In my unoppressive, rich, free speech state. Why?

I know lots of male feminists. They may not actively call themselves feminists but they are in agreement for equality of the sexes.

Damn, posted too soon.

So..... What are feminists really like?

My dp is about 5"10, medium build, he's a chef but hates his current job, he has dark hair (which needs cutting) and abit of a beard, he enjoys playing pool, watching films and football, he supports lfc. He's funny, friendly and can be abit moody (can't we all??). He talks a lot when he's nervous.

Did that answer your question?

Feminists are women who don't want to have to put up with crap that men and women give them just because they are women.

HTH

Try the British Crime Survey as well Sox, the dodgy site you posted refers to the USA (and isn't right anyway, the figures are based on more than one study).

Also there is a pay gap and it's not because men do more hours, even where women do the same amount of hours as men do, there is a pay gap. To say nothing of how men have defined work done mainly by men as more valuable than work mainly done by women, leading to a pay gap for work of equal value. HTH.

I'm a feminist, I'm about 5"6, slim, with long dark hair.

Likes: my husband, children, friends, books, cinema and eating out. I love walking my dog and going to the gym.

Dislikes: violence, whiny men who troll forums with inaccurate information.

The pay gap (for the same work) is a myth. Perhaps this article will help you get it, and it was written by a women

No, it really is just whiney men that troll forums. Unless you're one of those men that like to tell women what they like or don't like? Or that you know a woman's mind better than she does herself? Are you one of those men, sox?

Yes us feminists hate all men.

I especially hate the one I'm married to, have four children with, and who I'm expecting a fifth child. I hate him so much. Wink

"Did a woman once refuse to have sex with you?"

Are you going to tell me I have a small penis too? And that I live in mommy's basement?

Those sort of things are the usual responses from feminists. If they resort to such pitiful insults so quickly it doesn't say much for their intelligence.

Soxu - I believe the word you're searching for is misandrist. Note that it looks quite different to the word feminist.

Sox, unless you think all women are inferior to all men you are a feminist too.

I assume you think racism is wrong? Then you are capable of understanding that prejudice against a group of people for a characteristic that is intrinsic and they can't control is wrong.

You do know that's a silly thing to say, don't you? But I don't even hate silly men.

I have the greatest objection to the perpetuation of entrenched unearned privileges - hence I'm a feminist and a secularist.

Feminism - for the hard of understanding i.e. for Sox as he appears not to be able to use a dictionary.

Feminism = the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of equality of the sexes. Source: Oxford English Dictionary.

As you don't appear to approve of feminism Soxu I take it you don't believe in the equality of the sexes then?
