What are feminists actually like?

Before I start, I'm not here to bash on about anything or anyone.

So, I'm not a woman myself, and i'll probably get banned for being a man on a 'mums' website, but anyway.

What are feminists actually like? There seems to be varied and mixed feelings towards you feminists. I've visited many sites and know many people who claim feminism is simply the idea of superiority and entitlements for woman, from posters, demonstrations and the media, im honestly starting to believe this. Can any woman actually give me a real insight into what you believe and what you think, and if feminism is actually needed in first world countries.
This is a pretty much useless post, just wanted to get thought from both sides.

Thank you. Its also quite late at night and i'm tired so this may not be worded perfectly.

You know, I could easily find some bonkers MRA articles to show how virulently anti woman they are, and say that this shows that all men are virulently anti woman,But I wouldn't- because it's not true.I've tried to have a sensible discussion- but it hasn't worked. Off you pop and rant about urinals somewhere else.

Yes soxu. That is an excellent precis of feminism!

Though actually I do agree that men generally piss on the floor and women generally wipe it up

soxuhupe · 13/04/2014 23:22

I always thought men stood to pee because it's simply quicker and more convenient, but I thank feminists for revealing the shocking revelation to me.

soxu I hope it's not against MN talk guidelines to point out that you're a right saddo

I hope it's not against NM guidelines to point out feminism today in developed countries is a complete joke.

Actually I don't really care what the guidelines are.

Nothing to stop women standing up to pee except our knickers. Poor women in Victorian times used to pee over the gutters in the street.

The Left Party must give its PR agency a bonus - a proposal made by a party with less than 6% of the vote in Sweden has become an internet cause celebre. Job done, presumably.

soxu, have you ever experienced sexual violence, as a victim?

You want to help women who really are oppressed? Then quit whining about urinals in your safe developed rich free-speech country and go fight for women's rights in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan.

soxu there is only one person who is whining about urinals here, and it is you

You know I've had a quick hunt for anything approaching the "peeing standing up is an unacceptable macho gesture" thing but can only find a Spectator article by Jasper Gerard. I suspect he might have been.....er...taking the piss?

Good lord, here's a ripe one. Feminists conspiring against peeing? Next thing you know they'll be murdering two male partners a week.

'go fight for women's rights in Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan.'

Feminists typically do that, while at the same time continuing to push for true equality closer to home too.

Why can't I find a new bingo card when I need one?

My DH sits down to pee. He likes to have a little read while he wazzes, and it means there's no seat up/down arguments in our house. He's not even a feminist sox. What should I do about my urinal-rejecting DH? Will no-one think of the urinals???

Do you have a 1 in 4 chance of being raped or sexually assaulted in your lifetime soxu.

I do.

Wilson - mine too. Except when out on walks, of course... he once accidentally pee'd on a pair of adders, which I contend is the most interesting thing anyone is likely to say about vertical weeing.Grin

And no, you won't be banned for being a man. This isn't Reddit.

No particular need to invoke gender for Reddit, the female posters in here would be banned from Reddit in a heartbeat if they postured anything negative about Belle Knox and choice feminism.

I could be talked into a urinal free society, I'm sure. I hate men weeing all over the place and/or leaving the seat up. Men's toilets smell. And women are usually the ones that clean them.

Women everywhere - forget equal pay, sexual equality, an end to male violence/rape culture. Let's unite to stop men standing up to pee! All hail!! Grin

How did the adders react? I can imagine they'd have been quite fed up. I would have been.

"Do you have a 1 in 4 chance of being raped or sexually assaulted in your lifetime soxu.

No you don't. The "1 in 4 chance" is utter garbage.

aspiringeconomist.com/index.php/2009/09/11/rape-statistics-1-in-4/

it was taken from one single study done on a uni campus back in 1985, one of the questions asked if the woman had had drink or drugs before sex (and a "yes" answer would count as a "rape"). And out of the women counted as being "raped", only 27% of them considered themselves as rape victims.

And since then it has been repeated so often people like yourself actually believe it.
