This is something like the fourth pub chat thread - please pull up a chair at the bar. Everyone welcome. Smile

Old thread is here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/1920422-The-Feminist-Pub-continued?

But it's pretty much full so welcome in.

I'm off to a toddler group later LordCopper. Want to sit in a corner with me and play 'gender stereotype bingo'. I warn you, I'm a bit slow this morning. Seem to have hit third trimester exhaustion bang on schedule. More coffee me thinks....

Pacific - I take your 'hands full' and raise you 'were you trying for a girl? '. I get 'oooh, wait until they are teenagers' and 'are you hoping for a boy this time?' Grin

PacificDogwood · 27/01/2014 09:13

Ha! And I raise you "Oh, another boy? My condolences". Said by older woman whilst I was out proud as punch with DS4 a few days old in the pram. Stupid, stupid person! I still feel my bile rising typing this almost 4 years after the event Grin.
I am still cross with myself for not having said 'Well, at my age (I was 44) and after 4 MCs I am SO happy to have a healthy, gorgeous child' rather than just going Hmm and walking on....

I'm off to toddler group too - oh, the excitement Wink

LRDtheFeministDragon · 27/01/2014 09:18

Grrr.

Sorry to hear this. Why do people never realize there is no good way to comment on that sort of thing?

I can't remember who it was, but someone on MN used to claim they'd reply 'I had no idea me trying had anything to do with it'. I can imagine with a big fake smile that'd be quite satisfying.

We never went to toddler groups. Grin

Don't even go into this "trying" business. Plenty of people have plenty of ideas what you could do to influence the sex of the baby. Confused

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 27/01/2014 11:03

I love toddlers generally. Just the other parents I mostly find tiresome Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2014 11:16

Yes, good to be past the incomprehensible rages and sheer stickiness of toddlerhood. 'oooh, wait until they are teenagers' - IME actually rather lovely on the whole. Smile

PenguinsDontEatKale · 27/01/2014 11:18

Yup, I like toddlers but not generally en masse. And toddler groups are generally a bit meh unless it's the one my actual friend goes too. But it is cold and wet and I need to get out of the house.

No gender bingo so far, but lots of competitive parenting!

Soooo, currently having our 5th snow day this month! Parents are complaining a plenty, including me. Now I have to go through the hell that is forcing dd to do work at home and try to do my own work at the same time. I prefer going to school.

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 27/01/2014 13:32

Just sharing Grin

I like that.

You're bad ... first you make me read The Onion, which of course reminds me I've not looked at the Daily Mash for a while.

PleaseJustLeaveYourBrotherAlon · 27/01/2014 14:40

31-year-old Stephen Malley said: “I’m an alpha male because I shout at people, for example laundrette staff and anyone else who isn’t allowed to answer back because of their employment terms.

PacificDogwood · 27/01/2014 14:51

This is what I got when I tried to look at The Onion link:

"The page you were looking for is not here.
Clearly, this is because you have damaged the inter-net.
At great expense, we have placed the broken pieces in an archive so that you can mend the damage you caused."
Shock
Grin

I go to a German language toddler group, the same one I've been going to for almost 11 years Shock. I entirely go for the adult company - toddlers be darned Grin.
I am SO ready to be done with random rages and general stickiness and unfathomable demands Confused.
Remind me of this statement when they are teenagers and DS2 has trouble with the law Sad.

PacificDogwood · 27/01/2014 14:54

Ah crap, now I forgot my pithy feminist comment (see what toddlers do to my brain?? J'accuse, DS4)

I saw that Onion piece the other day and it brought home how much fucking hard work it is to be a feminist. If I was allowed the light relief that is admiring Kylie's Tininess on The Voice is, then what?!
I'd implode or something, I think...

Hello all, quiet in here tonight.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 27/01/2014 22:36

Hello!

This is the flimsiest, non-feminist excuse, but ... you did mention ferrets.

Those kitten/ferret pics are just THE cutest thing ever.

I find it v. cheering that mainstream satirical sites like The Onion and The Daily Mash are basically pro-feminist... I think this is a change even over the last ten years or so, and really demonstrates that we are Getting Somewhere.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/01/2014 22:47

Yet another link to not show DD - she'd want the ferrets, not the cat.
