You can watch here

She has to talk till midnight, so that is 13hours. Without a break, without sitting down.

Totally amazing. I bet someone in Hollywood is busy coming up with the film rights.

Boosiehs · 26/06/2013 09:50

I have tears in my eyes. What Wendy Davies did yesterday for women in Texas, and in fact everywhere, is absolutely amazing. She is my hero.

maggie "fucking knobber" - couldn't agree with you more. Just another instance of old white men trying to decide the fate of women's bodies. C. Sorry for the use of that.

FreedomOfTheTess · 26/06/2013 09:51

I was watching it, and I'm proud to say my aunt and cousin were two of the many protesters in the public gallery, who were there to stand with Wendy.

They got hauled out of the gallery by Texas Rangers, on the order of the Lt. Governor, along with the other protesters.

One of the Republican Senators has called the protesters "terrorists" on Twitter. Gobsmacked by that.

Anyway, bravo Wendy, and I say Wendy for President!

scallopsrgreat · 26/06/2013 09:52

Oh that is such good news that it is dead. Thanks MmeLindor for starting this thread. Learnt a lot about US politics (amongst other things).

Well done Wendy Davis Flowers

Here's a glass of wine too. You've earned it Wine Grin

JulesJules · 26/06/2013 09:58

Thanks for sharing this thread Mme Flowers

100 years after Emily Davison died, thank God for women like Wendy Davis and how horrendous that this was even necessary.

Sausageeggbacon · 26/06/2013 10:04

Another one saying well done to Wendy Davis

The only person that should decide what a woman does with her body is that woman. If the republican men want to decide on abortion let them get pregnant.

5madthings · 26/06/2013 10:04

Awesome, tears here, Wendy Davis you are amazing and her supporters too.

So glad they have prevailed.

freedom give your aunt and cousin a pat on the back from me.

Let's hope this marks the start of a turning point agaoant this kind d of barbaric legislation.

I was looking online last night for a charity that supports women's rights in America, is there a good one? I found a Texas one but some states have eight week abortion like its and many seem to make it very hard to access, so there a charity that supports women who need help or even one that is trying to challenge legally the states that restrict abortion.

edam · 26/06/2013 10:13

Wow. Was so pissed off this morning when the Today programme reported she'd been stopped with one minute to go, but got an email from her campaign saying she did it!

What an amazing woman. Hope she's having a looooong lie down. Grin

LeGavrOrf · 26/06/2013 10:14

Thanks for this thread mmelindt.

How marvellous. What a wonderful woman, and what an achievement.

Freedom that is amazing that your relatives were there, but to be called terrorists, bloody hell. Grin

So sobering the endless campaign to restrict women's rights, or retract what has already been fought for and won.

enjoyingscience · 26/06/2013 10:18

Crying at my desk (trying to be subtle).

What an incredible woman, but what a crying shame it required such a herculean effort to prevent such abuse and violation on womens rights.

She's a hero, and so are the people who supported her.

FreedomOfTheTess · 26/06/2013 10:18

5madthings - National Organization for Women (NOW)

FreedomOfTheTess · 26/06/2013 10:19

They were all out in the halls as well, filling all three floors, men and women, young and old.

My cousin said it was the most incredible thing she has ever experienced.

5madthings · 26/06/2013 10:21

Thank you freedom shall make a donation in honour wendy and her amazing achievement.

MadCap · 26/06/2013 10:24

5madthings There's also Planned Parenthood. There right at the front in the war on women in the US and are being defunded all over the place.

TallGiraffe · 26/06/2013 10:29

What an amazing woman.

Wendy please keep yourself safe, the world needs you to stick around Flowers

TotallyBursar · 26/06/2013 10:33

That was an amazing thing to have watched.
The fragility of our rights has worried me for a while (this isn't the first attack on our bodies requiring defence) and the increasing anti abortion feeling being publicised in the UK (where we have existing rights) has made me very concerned.

Wendy Davies is an inspiration to us all - she, and her colleagues, have done a staggering days work today. Thanks Thanks Thanks

MalenkyRusskyDrakonchik · 26/06/2013 10:33

This is amazing. I was driving and trying to get any news in the car ... no luck!

So glad she did it. What an amazing woman.

I loved some of the senators who supported her, too, brilliant.

kelda · 26/06/2013 10:36

Well done to Wendy DavisFlowers

5madthings · 26/06/2013 10:39

Yes I thought about planned parenthood as well :)

North Dakota bans abortion from once there is a heartbeat IE 6wks!! Fgs how can that be legal?!

I loved some of the senators supporting her as well, they were awesome. BBC news has caught up, but there is mention if a 'special session' to try again to get it through?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 26/06/2013 10:45

Wow. Wendy Davis

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/06/2013 10:51

Fantastic! Thanks so much for this thread and for all the explanations. Stay safe, Wonderful Wendy.

50shadesofvomit · 26/06/2013 10:57

Wow. Just speechless. Wendy you're an absolute star to have managed this feat. I hope that you're getting lots of rest now. Congratulations and thank you for standing up for what should be a human right- the right for a woman to choose what to do with her body. Amazing lady. Just wow...

evelynj · 26/06/2013 11:32

Great-thanks for bringing this to my attention, how wonderful.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 26/06/2013 11:35
