Please can we repeat the earlier success and see if we can get Amazon to remove this from sale foul

Doctrine mentioned it on the earlier thread but I felt like we needed a bit more focus. Should I post in chat too?

I have emailed already.

Retweeted too. Incredible that anybody thought this was acceptable. Well incredible probably isn't the right word. Despairing is more like it.

scottishmummy · 01/03/2013 23:16

That is vile, aghast any could wear such an item

MmeLindor · 01/03/2013 23:25

The twitter account of SolidGoldBomb is so funny. They obviously don't use it at all, and have just 4 followers. They will get a shock when they look at their @mentions column.

Lifeisontheup · 01/03/2013 23:30

Amazon have told me they will be removing it. We will wait and see....

Arcadia · 01/03/2013 23:39

Sadly not the first time www.thefrisky.com/2008-07-02/amazons-pro-date-rape-shirt/

LineRunner · 01/03/2013 23:39

Just adding my voice that the product is fucking disguting and Amazon should get a grip on the products it allows to be listed.

Arcadia · 01/03/2013 23:40

And again www.socialholic.co.uk/2011/10/those-hilarious-rape-t-shirts/

a computer error? Hmm

JambalayaCodfishPie · 02/03/2013 07:57

From Sky News

'Keep Calm And Rape' T-Shirts 'A Mistake'

Solid Gold Bomb said it had received death threats after the garments were advertised by the seller on Amazon's website.

The T-shirt makers' Twitter account was bombarded with scores of angry messages - many of which said: "Rape is not a joke."

But a statement on the Solid Gold Bomb website insisted the offensive slogans had been "automatically generated using a scripted computer process running against hundreds of thousands of dictionary words".
"Needless to say, receiving death threats is certainly uncalled for as there was no intention of wrongdoing in any manner," the statement said.

"We're sorry for the ill-feeling this has caused! We're doing our best here to fix the problem.
"Any offensive items that are remaining are certainly in the deletion queue and will be removed as soon as the processing is complete."

The company said the scripted programming process that created the slogan was compiled by "only one member of our staff", but that it "accepted the responsibility of the error".

Other slogans reportedly available on the T-shirts appeared to support the claim they were at least partly randomly-generated, including 'Keep Calm And Rape In'.

A series of critical reviews were also posted on the Amazon website page showing the T-shirts.
One, from a person under the username 'Sickened', said: "Not even slightly amusing. Disgusted. I will be boycotting amazon until this item is withdrawn! It is offensive, in extremely poor taste and could be very triggering for any victims of abuse."

A spokesman for Amazon UK told Sky News: "I can confirm that those items are not available for sale."

Here is the CEO of American Apparel whose t-shirts Solid Gold Bomb use. Delightful.

All boys together.

Here's a different one encouraging DVHmm

Words fail me.

harryhausen · 02/03/2013 08:58

Sorry, the links not clickable. I'll try again.

harryhausen · 02/03/2013 09:01

It says "Keep Calm and Hit Her"

Hmm
harryhausen · 02/03/2013 09:02

Funny how all the 'random' computer generated slogans all seem to advocate violence against women? Very misogynist computer I guess.

TheDoctrineOfSciAndNatureClub · 02/03/2013 09:21

I would be really surprised if there was a computer programme that allowed ALL "Keep Calm and..." verb/preposition combos as it would
have millions of outputs - there must have been some rules applied or they'd have things like "Keep Calm and Iron Up" "Keep Calm and Clean Over" etc etc.

LineRunner · 02/03/2013 09:58

And of all those outputs, I presume that the company staff choose which ones they actually manufacture?

It's not like a computer picks them, puts them on a tailor's dummy, takes pictures of them, decides the price and does the listings.

TheDoctrineOfSciAndNatureClub · 02/03/2013 10:20

Line, I do think in this case the actual items are computer mock ups of the "your text here" variety. Not sure that's the same for the Amazon tshirts though.

DyeInTheEar · 02/03/2013 10:39

I've just posted about this t shirt on another thread. Seems I'm a bit slow off the mark!

But my friend drew my attention to this t shirt found on Amazon. I'm so depressed by the casual misogyny allowed in our society. Why is it not illegal? To incite racial violence is. To attack someone because of their sexuality is. Why can't we stop this on the ground of gender intolerance?

should not be sold anywhere
