Apologies if this has already been posted. The opening song is draw-droppingly disrespectful. I don't know what they were thinking.

who wants to stand up and say no, and get branded as that bitch who can't take a joke? and maybe lose work as a result?

don't even get me started on Quvenzhené and how she was treated.

burn it all and fuck everything Angry

ArmyOfPenguins · 25/02/2013 16:49

Exactly chibi.

Men hold the power in Hollywood.
They know they can put pressure on women to be filmed unclothed, then take the piss out of them when they comply, then ask them to join in with the piss-take.

Sexual bullying en masse.

No worries pofaced! It was me who wasn't clear :)

Sorry, I'm not seeing the sexism, it could just have easily been a 'we've seen your penis' song, which would also have been funny but due to lack of penises onscreen, it makes more sense to go with the much more commonly flashed boobs. I can't think of a greater complement for an actor than to be in an Oscar song, it shows they've made it.

It's juvenile humour (hilarious to those of us who like that sort of thing) which is what you expect from the creator of family guy and ted!!! Not everybody's cup of tea, fair enough but complaints of racism, sexism, homophobia and god knows what else are ridiculous and false.

BigSpork · 25/02/2013 17:10

It could have easily been butts. There are plenty of butts of both.

But there weren't.

ArmyOfPenguins · 25/02/2013 17:13

You didn't see the sexism zebra?

I suppose it was rather nuanced. Hmm

OP posts:
chibi · 25/02/2013 17:14

well, it takes them down a peg. thinking they are professionals, artists, but we've seen their boobs! ha ha ha ha.

nope, no sexism there at all, oh no.

ArmyOfPenguins · 25/02/2013 17:21

There have been many films with penises in them actually, though possibly not Hollywood. But I can't imagine, say, the BAFTAs including a choir of women singing 'we've seen your dick' and laughing, going down well with men.

OP posts:
chibi · 25/02/2013 17:24

belittling women? LOL.

laughing at penises? NOT LOL.

MurderOfGoths · 25/02/2013 17:27

"those actresses surely do agree to go topless, but do they do so imagining that some halfwit will serenade them with 'we saw your boobs' broadcast to an audience of your peers, on a night when you are maybe hoping to be recognised for your craft?"

That's it isn't it? They are there to (hopefully) be awarded for their acting talent and then have to sit through a song reducing them to just tits.

pofacedplot · 25/02/2013 17:40

Yep and reducing a film about rape [The Accused] to 'Jodie Foster we've seen your boobs' Oh how I laughed.

pofacedplot · 25/02/2013 17:41

There is a reason we don't seen penises more often in Hollywood films. They are sanctified, we have to give them a kind of hushed respect that women's breasts do not get.

PuffPants · 25/02/2013 17:49

But penises are genitals and we don't tend to see open-legged vulva shots either - thank god!

pofacedplot · 25/02/2013 18:05

No I don't think it is that.

Lessthanaballpark · 25/02/2013 18:59

Eugh! That was the bizarrest opening song I've ever seen. Weird and immature. What on earth was the point of it?

ecclesvet · 25/02/2013 20:01

When Shame came out, there was a lot of giggling at penises, or that one penis.

ArmyOfPenguins · 25/02/2013 20:05

Yeah. That's exactly the same as sneering at women at an awards ceremony for appearing naked in films. Including where the nudity was due to a rape scene.

OP posts:
ecclesvet · 25/02/2013 20:11

It's not the same, but it's the only recent Hollywood film I can remember which explicity showed a penis, and there were lots of jokes about it at the time, so the stuff about no laughing at penises or they're so sanctified etc is wrong.

ArmyOfPenguins · 25/02/2013 20:19

Yes, penises are ridiculed sometimes. Comparing breasts and penises isn't that helpful here anyway. It wasn't even 'boobs' that were being derided at the Oscars; it was women. I have yet to see male actors as a group being pressured to show their bodies and subsequently demeaned for it.

PretzelTime · 25/02/2013 20:46

Wow, when you see all those things together in that link it really sounds like a deliberate "Fuck you/fuck off ladies" (and little girls) message Confused

Trekkie · 25/02/2013 20:50

They had a song about seeing women's boobs at the oscars?

What on earth? That sounds utterly bizarre.

Trekkie · 25/02/2013 20:53

OMFG

Only managed 20 secs into the boobs song. Meryl streep? Isn't she, like, a highly respected actress who's been around for donkeys years and won oscars n shit? "We saw your boobs"??? WTAF.

Trekkie · 25/02/2013 20:56

Also not sure joking about dating 9yo is entirely above board, especially when said 9yo is in the audience Confused

George cloony didn't look terribly impressed.

Still I guess in hollywood dating an underage girl / child is better than dating a man (whether those rumours are true or not I have no idea... But still.)

ArmyOfPenguins · 25/02/2013 23:36

The whole ceremony seemed to be peppered with woman-hating comments from Seth. Perhaps he was seeing how far he could push it? I hope he's gone too far this time.

OP posts:
HairyHandedTrucker · 26/02/2013 03:10

it was vile. I gave up early on. but family guy is just racism and rape jokes now anyway so can't understand why he got the job anyway
