My son has to research and do a biography of an inspirational woman in history. I wondered who you feel inspired by?

and why.

and because I thought the topic interesting, not to do my son's homework

Elizabeth Fry the Quaker and social reformer. She and her supporters provided a sack containing thread / needles etc to all women on transportation ships to Australia so they could amek something to ease the boredom of the journey, have something to barter with or sell to prevent them having to resort to prostitution and to use as a sample piece for potential employers on arrival in Australia. It was such a simple thing but had the potential to make a huge difference. She also did a lot of work for prison reform, particularly for women prisoners.

All of the above plus - Mrs Beeton - a real businesswoman who maunfactured and marketed the idea of herself as a comely housewife. She wasn't.

ohh, meip somebody was the woman go-between who kept the frank family secure for years in the annex, she was awarded by the dutch govt for humane actions a few years ago.

Rosa Parks - became the focal point for changing society in the most powerful nation on earth, and she looks like a strong breeze might blow her over .Courage is grace under pressure. She is the very definition of the word.

Rosa Parks was very courageous. It was an orchestrated stand though, not on a whim. I saw a documentary about it. There was a woman before her who wanted to make a stand, but because she was a single mother the civil rights movement thought, I think rightfully, that she wouldn't win the same level of sympathy if they threw their support behind her. Rosa Parks was a more sympathetic figure for the public at large.

However, the coloured people's movement {NAACP) believed she was the ideal candidate to follow through a challenge in the courts. It is fantastic how such a seemingly insignificant, non-violent act can have such repercussions though.
