I come from a mining town in Asia. Loads of women working there painstakingly carrying stuff on their heads. The worst work is given to women and they are paid much less than the men. The differential is carefully maintained in all pay discussions.
In construction, the women carry the bricks on their heads and the men do the cement work. Not that the women aren't capable - but they are kept out - the differential has to be maintained. Superiority has to be underlined at every possible chance.

Go to the paddy fields, it's all the women doing the back breaking work of transplanting the seedlings. Chances are the rice you eat at a takeaway/Indian/chinese restaurant has been transplated and harvested by a woman.

Loads of veggies in the supermarket flown in from all over the world. Women are cheap labour in loads of countries.

How about your clothes? Did you sew them? Chances are they were sewn by a women in Bangladesh. Most of the factories I saw in India (Levis, Gap and few others) mostly women working in them.

How about all your chinese goods? Your house must be full of them. Loads of women on the factory line in China.

In the UK never been a day without seeing loads of women working hard. No doubt all you see are objects so don't really see that they are doing something worthwhile. It's just a pair of walking boobs - they can't really be doing anything can they??

the labour force in the east is dramaticaly different to here in europe, in india women work in construction, doing the carrying heavy loads to the dump truck or moveing materials arouynd for the tradesmen, what we call a labourer here in europe. it's the hardest physical job on any site and the lest rewarding mentaly. i have to admit it suprised me to whitness it.

in vietnam men are allmost expected to have leisure, makes me wonder how any men make it to positions of goverment. women emptey refuse bins manage shops aswell as the back-breaking work in the paddy fields , they have all the sides effects femminism may bring to western women without the benifits , the men just laze about all day.

in cambodia a woman took a cigarette from me while she chatted with my wife , she took it smiling, no problem there , until a native guy strolled along and she hid it. she was working at a shrine , i doubt he had a job attall still she was afraid of what he might think of her smoking.

in thailand and malaisia it seems women spend most of their time shopping, and this passtime is made very much of , like it's part of the national pride, new wealth , and they like to spend it. this applys to the 'haves' only of course.
