Which CBeebies White Men Would You Sack To Make Room For Diversity?

I'm fed up with the surplus white able-bodied men in children's programmes - especially those who really aren't all that. I mean Justin Fletcher and Chris from Show Me Show Me seem to have got in on talent - but Andy from Andy's Wild Adventures - what's the deal with him? Same for Mr Bloom and Alex. It would be really easy to replace these white men with more diverse presenters.

The same goes for cartoons like Mike the Knight- why don't they, just at the commissioning stage, have a process where they ask: Does this character actually NEED to be an able-bodied white male? If not, they could change them to somebody other than an ABWM. Wouldn't that be great?

So I'm just interested in knowing who else you think could be binned without any great loss in the name of diversity?

Even though I am getting very tired of watching it myself, I am so glad that my 7 year old DS is currently obsessed with the film Matilda (the fairly recent AMerican version of the Roald Dahl story) - here is a 7 year old boy who will happily sit and watch a female protagonist time and time again.

Roald Dahl has fantastic characters full stop doesn't he Grin

The grandmother in the witches was great as well. They changed the ending of the book for the film - the book ending was happy and sad at the same time, the film they changed it, that was annoying.

To suggest the removal of someone from their role with their gender, skin colour or physical ability used as deciding factor is fascist in nature. Fair enough further the cause of your chosen subset, but not to the detriment and at the expense of anyone else.

Furthermore I assume if Mr Bloom had his legs cut off (not wishing that on him) or had an extreme tanning session he would somehow become appropriate to the quota requirements, ignoring the fact that would do nothing to change his mannerisms, his tone of voice and so on!

Tiggypoopoo is no relation to me by the way. I'm still the original quality Tiggy you all know and love.

I don't think you guys get sesame street in the UK but if you can watch it via Netflix or online you'll find almost as none of the main characters are white. They regularly discuss disabilities, Real world events and gender politics. Its not perfect but its not far off
