Argh! Just ARGH!

How can you feel ashamed if you still blame your victim? Or more importantly women as a whole?

?The problem with strong, intelligent women is that they can argue, well. And if there is a time where you can?t get a word in ... and I ... I lashed out. I couldn?t end the argument.

What the actual fuck? Is that his DEFENSE? Because Rula Lenska has a brain and he couldn't win an argument it's OK for her to be hit?

and this peach here:

?I?d never done it before or since. But if a woman is determined to put you down, and if you?re not bright enough to do it with words, it can happen, and it did happen in my case.?

So it's the evil woman with a brain who is at fault. For being hit. Nice guy.

sunshineandbooks i only know of 2 threads running on this on this board and AIBU. Could you point me to the third one please? Thanks.

sunshineandbooks · 20/03/2012 18:20

Thread in chat. Seems to have died a bit of a death but loved the title. Smile

Nyac · 20/03/2012 18:21

Poor Rula. :(

sunshineandbooks · 20/03/2012 18:32

I agree Nyac. I think quite a few posters, me included, can identify with being labelled a liar because no one wants to believe that of 'such a nice guy'. It must have been 100x worse for her with them both being in the public eye. I hope she feels some vindication from his self-absorbed justification 'confession' and I'd love it if she could read most of the comments on MN that condemn his behaviour.

ScarlettAlexandra · 20/03/2012 18:38

so let me get this straight if i use my brains to defend myself against emotional abuse i deserve to get slapped.

utter crap. maybe if his brain wasn't so small. he wouldn't do that in the first place gggggrrrrrr

FrillyMilly · 20/03/2012 21:07

I think the proof that we forgive abusers too easily and sweep even the most public domestic violence under the carpet is the fact I had no idea that Phill Tufnell or Sean Penn had abused their wives, one of which was Madonna. I'm 25 so was too young to pay attention to these stories when they came out. I only found out about Roman Polanski recently. If a man is allowed to get away with drugging and raping a child (and never even showing any remorse for it) because he is 'talented' and famous then it's no surprise domestic violence is forgiven by the public too.

GeekCool · 21/03/2012 10:16

It's ok everyone. A Female report from the Mail has leapt to his defence.

I'm not linking, it's not hard to find. But, be prepared to be more angry/depressed about this story than you were yesterday.

FrillyMilly · 21/03/2012 10:27

They are discussing this on TWS now. He's the victim apparently as she emotionally/verbally abused him for 11 years by intellectually dominating him.

Henry1980 · 21/03/2012 10:47

It appears the latest information is he is claiming he was a victim of mental and verbal abuse, idk if that is true or not, what I do know is abuse is abuse is abuse, wether it's physical or emotional the damage it can do to people can last years.

On a personal note I don't think I will ever recover from the mental abuse I was a victim of, funny how at the first sign of the abuse getting physical I ran for the hills, I can't explain why that would be.

BasilFoulTea · 22/03/2012 21:47

His PR, aghast, has kicked in and said FGS go for emotional abuse as a defence - pretend that the reason you hit her is because she was emotionally abusing you and then you can say that that form of abuse is much worse so aksherlly, she's the abuser here, not you.

Very clever. Far too clever for stupid Dennis.

Oops did I say stupid Dennis, lucky it's anonymous here, he might feel emotionally abused by that and as I'm smaller than him, therefore have an excuse to come and thump me.

He's a really unpleasant bloke. I suspect that the reason his career hasn't really flourished as it should have done, given its beginnings, is because nobody really likes him. He comes across as a nasty bastard, someone you should avoid.

I love Little Britain's portrayal of him

carernotasaint · 22/03/2012 22:43

Dennis Waterman (as well as being a mysogynistic arsehole) is not a patch on actors like Phil Glenister anyway.
I reckon actors like Phil are going to be getting even more work than they are already cos i think Watermans career is well and truly fucked.

Maybe Dennis should start doing adverts for hand cream.
He must need to use a lot of it what with his knuckles dragging on the ground.
Arsehole.

klonkill · 02/04/2012 17:02

According to Lenska, Waterman struck her on 2 occasions. Men AND women both physically abuse...it is regrettable, but a fact. Instead of the predictable & immature mixture of outrage & abuse, it might be more constructive to focus on the wider issue of domestic abuse, rather than delight in making ad hominem attacks on Waterman. You might also like to consider why these comments were released...as a plug for an interview series based on sensation & tittle tattle.
By all means, if domestic abuse if of concern to you, debate it with the sobriety it deserves. If it's just a spot of celeb bashing you came for, I'd question whether your concern for victims of domestic violence is genuine. Certainly your comments betray minds that are focused more on abusing an individual for 2 isolated incidents & little else. All rather pathetic isn't it?

klonkill · 02/04/2012 17:07

Given that Glenister's only role of any note is a painful parody of John Thaw as Jack Regan, whilst Waterman appeared in both The Sweeney & Minder, there is no comparison to made, unless you're talking about New Tricks, which is a poor programme in any case. Again, there's very little in your comment that is relevant to the issue of domestic violence.

TrophyEyes · 02/04/2012 17:15

Klonkill, may I point out that domestic abuse is not restricted to physical abuse. More often than not, preceeding any physical violence, there is a length process of emotional abuse, financial abuse, psychological abuse, and in many cases, sexual abuse. Yet by restricting it to solely physical abuse, we're not only excusing abusers, but also minimising what the victims go through, and subsequently making it a lot harder for victims to come forward.

Lenska may have stated that Waterman struck her on two occasions. But he still struck her. I refuse to minimise that on the basis he "only struck her twice". They weren't isolated incidents. He struck her (at least) twice in one relationship.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 02/04/2012 17:15

Thanks for dropping in and telling us how to discuss DV, klonkill.

TrophyEyes · 02/04/2012 17:16

carernotasaint · 02/04/2012 17:19

The piers morgan interview with this "man" is this month. Coincidence? If i didnt know better klonkill id say you were trying a bit of damage limitation.

TrophyEyes · 02/04/2012 17:25

Yeah, it's like the smell of coffee... Really wakes you up to the bullshit around you, doesn't it?

AnyFucker · 02/04/2012 17:25

klonkill you have made it all so clear to me, how may I thank you ?

susiedaisy · 02/04/2012 17:26

I read his interview in the daily fail several weeks ago and it fucked me right off, but I wasn't brave enough to start a thread about it, so glad it's been done now, I was speechless when I read it but this is indeed what my exH used to say about me.

I can articulate well in a disagreement but my exH never could and just lost it, lashing out!! And then of course it was all my fault as I had driven him to it!!

carernotasaint · 02/04/2012 17:26
