Male sexual response - netdoctor article making me feel uneasy

I just read this article about the male sexual response, written by two healthcare professionals on a website written by doctors aimed at providing medical information to the public.

It made me feel uneasy, especially the final sentence - the warning to women. What do you think of it? Am I being irrational?

I have just replied:

So the majority are quite happy to view women as basically a collection of holes, and men as all a little bit rapey? Righto.

KateMiddIeton · 25/11/2011 16:37

Did they mean the majority of a particular prison wing?

Malificence · 25/11/2011 18:35

You've only got to read the forums on netdoctor to know the average IQ level of their readership is about 6 (collectively) .

There is also a rather tragic question and answer section, one was about a woman who caught her husband masturbating, the answer ( from a professional ) was that he couldn't possibly be expected to go without sex for the duration of the wife's period because he's a man and men can't go without sex for more than about 5 minutes without exploding. Seriously.

KRITIQ · 25/11/2011 19:22

That makes it worse if you say folks who aren't very knowledgeable are looking to the site for answers. :(

LePruneDeMaTante · 25/11/2011 19:25

LeBOF I love your reply, you did send that, right?

MahatmaGloves · 25/11/2011 19:30

I did- doubt I'll get a reply though (Bof here).

Now that is an article to make the teeth itch.

It insults women by effectively reducing them to a collection of penis receiving fuckholes. It insults men by reducing them to a buck of cock driven cavemen.

Dear me what a bloody trainwreck of an article.

On a sidenote I showed the article to DH and he was very unimpressed and asked if it was really a medical site and not some idiot stirring shit.

MMMarmite · 27/11/2011 21:03

This is a horrible website :( Believing things like this can really mess up relationships.

MrsChemist · 27/11/2011 22:19

Love the reply BOF Grin

Great emails BoF.

Do any doctors actually use this site in the way it was apparently designed, because I would be really alarmed if the majority of doctors needed to read this sort of rubbish - are doctors expected to be going out and warning their female patients about voracious (and stupid) men, whilst counseling their male patients to be voracious (and stupid) perhaps?

moonferret · 28/11/2011 02:52

I'm male and that article is too funny for words. Thanks for pointing it out!

I like the line The slightest thing can set a man off

And deep down one of his major objectives in life is to get his penis inside you

And others...

Priceless, just priceless.

fotheringhay · 01/12/2011 12:49

This has really peed me off.

There's a list on this page of the "Medical Panel" and "Medical Consultants".

I'm going to email the webmaster to complain, and if I don't get a satisfactory answer I'll email several of the the doctors (it's often quite easy to find doctor's email addresses by googling).

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 01/12/2011 12:59

I like the way they say 'your man'. Like he should have a collar and lead on and perhaps be tapped on the nose with a newpaper. Waddaloadashiiiiiiiit.

fotheringhay · 01/12/2011 12:59

I sent this to the webmaster:

I'd like to draw your attention to the content of this article on your site:
www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/facts/malesexualresponse.htm
Perhaps you were unaware of the content. Please have a read, and I think you'll agree it needs to be amended urgently.
I hope you understand the problem of opinion presented as fact, and how offensive and misleading the article is.
If I do not see a better-researched update in the near future, I'll bring it to the attention of your Medical Consultants.
Thanks very much in advance.

Long term lurker on the feminism threads. Posting on this one because I forwarded the link to DH at work to read and tell me what he thought, as am already feeling slightly bad about lack of sex drive whilst pg. (Not that he complains - just everyone else seems to think I should be horny as hell).

He phoned me to laugh at me. Said there were times of the month (pre-pg, pg is a special case) when he was worried I'd wear it away, and times when he did a LOT of masturbating. He'd passed the link to a friend who was worried his DP was insatiable when he'd rather have an early night to get some sleep. It would seem that this is pretty normal.

If I was that doctor's wife, I would be concerned that my DH regarded me as a collection of orifices, ranked in order of preference... I don't think I am unreasonable, but that would be a deal-breaker for me!

Wamster · 02/12/2011 14:09

Well, anything can turn a man and a woman on sexually-be it the sight of a nice bottom or a watch, I agree with that. There is some truth in the article, but what it doesn't address is that people's urges are tempered by a sense of morality and right and wrong.
The overall tone of the article is horrible, though.
