I can't quite work out why this annoys me so much. Thoughts?

There is the rather obvious use of past tense for starters ...

Their real aims are population control and it will eventually be enforced by these technocratic leaders in their shiny, futuristic, green, clean buildings.
These rich men pretend they care, they pretend they want to 'save the planet'. But by 'saving the planet' they mean removing millions of people.

Their vision may very well lead to heads in duffel bags. But they will say it was all necessary, it was part of 'rebalancing'. It is part of a 'radical redesign'.

They are part of the 'Brave New World', funded by the rich and powerful.

I feel like I need a shower after watching that,

Oh god my mum was going on about the resource based economy yesterday as well Shock

Yes all very well selling this wonderful idea of everyone sharing everything but um

"If a group of people with gold, diamonds and money were stranded on an island that had no resources such as food, clean air and water, their wealth would be irrelevant to their survival."

No, evidently, but the one who corralled all the food away would be in a position of power.

Also "Only when population exceeds the carrying capacity of the land do many problems such as greed, crime and violence emerge. By overcoming scarcity, most of the crimes and even the prisons of today's society would no longer be necessary."

WTF?? Have they never opened a history book? Confused

Also apparently this is happening in december 20-twelve (my one key doesn't work). That gives you about 32 months to sort out your zombie plans then before your head is in a duffel bag...

blimey the Venus project looks like something dreamed up by a James Bond villain doesn't it? "We feel certain, however, that the only aspects of The Venus Project that may appear threatening are those which others project onto it."

In their main blurb about who they are, considering that they trumpet themselves as a world changing idea, the lack of the word "justice" is quite significant, I feel.

And I had to larf at one of these frequently asked questions:

21.I noticed a certain nearness between your thinking and the French architect Le Doux about the concept of ideal city: do you believe that the eighteenth century idea of ideal city could apply also to a future city?

Really? Is that a frequently asked question? Really frequent then? Are internet browsers always suddenly having a thought of LeDoux set off by random websites they come across?

And here's an answer to another FAQ:
"Will all people then be alike? Yes in certain areas. They will all work to protect the environment and extend maximum courtesy to one another regardless of race, color or creed" No mention of sex. Another dog that didn't bark.

"It is not the business of The Venus Project to attack the belief systems of other cultures, or to attack the way they treat women, or their values regarding other nations." Oh right, no of course we mustn't condemn FGM or ignore how other cultures treat half their population anymore than engaging with our own culture's treatment of half of our population...

Hmmmm. Let's hope this fashion doesn't get the funding...

claig · 13/04/2011 09:51

BertieBotts, you are exactly right. Your mum has been taken in by their messages, just as millions of others have. That is why they push their seductive message about climate and caring for nature and its resources. They know it will appeal to the good nature of millions of people. But they are the ones in charge, none of it will apply to them, they don't believe a word, but they hope that everyone else will.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 13/04/2011 09:54

lmao @ FAQ 21!

HerBeX · 13/04/2011 09:54

Yes this idea that scarcity causes all the world's problems - we actually live in an incredibly rich society and we're still horrible to each other.

It is all about eugenics isn't it? That whole thing of "we haven't got resources because there are too many of us" And you can see who would get the brunt of thier nasty population control shit - women and children.

claig · 13/04/2011 09:55

Real movements that aim for justice and change get no funding. The London Feminist Network have had to cancel next year's meeting due to lack of funds, and the numbers who march for change are small. Why? Because they get no funding, they are not promoted, they don't have the resources. But these cult like groups have endless funding and tens of thousands of followers. Why? because they are funded by very rich people behind the scenes who want to promote their message and fool people into following them against their own interests.

claig · 13/04/2011 09:59

The poor, women and children will get the brunt of it. Also it won't be voluntary, they are not mucking about. Herbex is right, we are an extremely rich society, there is lots of money in the bankers' hands. We, the people, transferred lots of it to the bankers as part of the bailout. They tell us that we don't have enough resources, that, we the people, are using them all up. They want all the resources for themselves. We are not worthy, we don't count. What will happen to teh sick and elderly in their futuristic, clean, green future?
