Reusable Sanitary Towels??

salamander25 · 07/02/2011 18:49

Hello all,

I am doing a project at university on reusable sanitary towels, trying to work out what's good and bad about them and how people use them.

I've made a survey to find out a bit more;

www.surveymonkey.com/s/reusabletowels

Would really appreciate it if you could help me out :)

Or if anyone has any comments about good brands they buy, or problems they've had in the past would love to start a discussion about it here.

Thanks x

MOONCUPS not towels!

jamaisjedors · 07/02/2011 20:43

Am a little curious, is your premise that feminists are more likely to use re-usable towels?

Anyone like to confirm that? Grin

salamander25 · 07/02/2011 20:47

Hi jamaisjedors,

No premise, I just saw that other similar conversations have started in this section so thought I would post here.
Have you ever tried using reusable towels before? Any thoughts on them? :)

Hi salamander

I use mooncups Smile have never used reusable towels.

I think there might be a request type section that you're supposed to go to post surveys, hold on will have a look.

FlamingoBingo · 07/02/2011 20:52

I tried reusable towels and mooncups. Now I use sponges.

SardineQueen · 07/02/2011 20:52

Hmmm there's a media request section but that doesn't cover you.

I'd stick a thread in chat if I were you.

For anyone who does use these and wants to take the survey linky

I'm in a helpful mood Smile

mercibucket · 07/02/2011 21:00

I've done the survey - Im sure there's a better place to put the link - environment stuff - but I'm afraid I'm not as helpful as sardinequeen tonight

jamaisjedors · 07/02/2011 21:05

I have used re-usables before but that was for a brief period before I found the mooncup - now I would never use anything else.

SardineQueen · 07/02/2011 21:10

KEY QUESTION

The survey cover page talks about reusable sanitary protection. Does this include mooncups?

Trillions of women on MN use mooncups.

thefinerthingsinlife · 07/02/2011 22:41

Another mooncup user here

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/02/2011 23:07

What the...? Reusable sanitary towels?

Mooncups all the way, mate.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 07/02/2011 23:07
Wine

ta da!

PaisleyLeaf · 07/02/2011 23:27

Have done it. But there are some pesky questions there where I had to tick 'other' and fill in the box, just because it won't let you select more than one option.

salamander25 · 08/02/2011 13:40

Thanks for your help everyone and filling out my survey.

Sardine Queen, I'll have a look to post in a chat, thanks! And yes, Mooncup users can fill out the survey, if some women use both towels and cups together then it would be great to hear from them too.

mercibucket, Environment is a good idea, I will see if there is somewhere there I can put link.

PaisleyLeaf, thanks for filling in the survey. Unfortunately I had to ask some questions where I only need to know the main answer rather than a mix, sorry if it was difficult to fill in, I will look at all comments though if you have added :)

Well, I have only just started my periods again after pregnancy and long term breastfeeding (2 years! hooray!) but I would like to try out reuseable sanitary towels.

Tried a mooncup once before and didn't get on with it, but might give it another go.

'The Cloth Nappy Tree' has a cloth san pro forum.

MmeLindt · 08/02/2011 13:48

Mooncup.

Reusable towels are a Step Too Far from me.

And more work.

And use up energy to wash.

AliceWorld · 08/02/2011 13:53

BranchingOut if mooncups didn't work for you, try other brands. I didn't get on with mooncups but lurve lunette.

BranchingOut · 08/02/2011 14:09

Thanks for the suggestion of lunette. The problem was related to my IUD (which is no more) so it was probably wasn't specific to mooncup.

I can't imagine they take much extra energy to wash either, presumably you rinse them out then put in with your normal wash (though maybe not with the whites!). I prefer the mooncup but if I was going to use pads I'd rather nice soft cloth ones than the chafing plasticy disposable ones.

I have been using washable pads for a few days now and i can tell you my life has changed.Grin
The disposable kind were making me sore and really uncomfortable.
In these few days i find washing the pads/pantyliners really easy to do. I use non-bio. They are so soft and comfey.
I have ordered my mooncup, i will admit, i am a little scared of changing over from tampons.Blush
I wish i had found out about them years ago.Smile
I always wear a pantyliner everyday and change at least three times a day for freshness. So i'm saving money in the long run too.Grin
I got mine off ebay ( a lovely lady makes them). So not as expensive as some of the branded ones.

Takver · 08/02/2011 18:39

Used to use washables, mooncup convert now :)

will take the survey though.

Agree Ethical living would be a good place to post (and chat)

AliceWorld · 08/02/2011 19:01

Now I'm interested as sometimes I do use pads and didn't know there was an alternative. Can anyone recommend a brand?

Takver · 08/02/2011 19:05

Moonrabbits are good, and their packs are a reasonable price I think compared to others.
