But it's just not something I encounter in my daily life, thank god. I word in a very equal industry (though we do need more women at the top), my friends and family are all pro-equality, so I guess I've been lucky to be so sheltered from this apparently huge anti-equality segment of the population.

I could understand his deranged rantings more if he had attended a shitty comprehensive and had truly grim, badly paid job but he has had an amazing education and career. Why is he so bitter? In what way has feminism held him back?

That guy is an absolute knob. I hope his wife is horrified, though I sadly suspect she's giving him a slap on the back for daring to speak up on this important issue Hmm

Grin at SGB. Any chance you could post that as a comment on the Mail website and see how long it lasts?

also i think he's trying to say that some feminists are misandrists
for some reason his expensive education missed out on that word

Has anyone noticed an increase in these types of article lately - particularly in the DM?

Worryingly half of them are from women. I have noticed a lot - in the papers, in magazines, on the radio - talking about how women don't actually want to work and just want to have the choice...but want to stay home.

Am getting paranoid in my old (ish) age but swear its political to try and reduce women in the workplace and therefore the unemployment stats....

Remember that woman (Tory as well) who was doing some kind of ranting about working women, and that women shouldn't work as it creates a false economy or some other such wank? MNHQ were trying to get her to come on a webchat. Will try and drag up the thread

But, unfortunately, this is pretty common IME. The UK is (again, IME) less mysoginistic than a lot of other countries and cultures I have encountered (France, RUSSIA, South Africa, India), so it's quite sad that there's this regression.

Yes, there do seem to be a lot of these articles lately. As the budget cuts really step up it will effect women more (class room assistants, Surestart workers etc). IMO it is to soften us up so we don't start rioting. After all, we are only women so we shouldn't have ambitions for ourselves.

And the number of men saying that foreign (particularly Asian) women are so much better, and are advocating leaving the UK or importing one! It's along time since I've been so horrified by anything.

Sorry to keep bleating on, I should just stop reading the comments, but I'm still waiting for mine to come up. It hasn't. Funny, that.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/01/2011 11:05

IIRC Jill Kirby as good as said that women taking decent jobs when they were living with someone who was already working (e.g. Him Outdoors) were stealing bread from the mouths of the unemployed.

AnnieLobeseder · 25/01/2011 11:12

Great. Now I'm actually crying. At my desk at work. More ammo for the men to bleat on about us useless emotional women in the workplace.

Report
ElephantsAndMiasmas · 25/01/2011 11:14

Are you alright Annie? Go to the toilet and blow your nose and then get angry before returning to desk. Anger is so much more professional that crying. At least, men have convinced us that it is so.

Was it anything particular that got to you? Or just all this hate-speech as a whole?

Report
sakura · 25/01/2011 11:24

if it makes you feel any better, Annie, I've got some insight into the subordinate Asian women thing. It's Orientalism, wishful-thinking: It's not real
The amount of Australian/American/British men around here who have married a Japanese woman thinking they're getting one thing and finding out they've got another is so funny if it weren't such a misogynistic basis for a marriage...

Report
AnnieLobeseder · 25/01/2011 12:10

It's just the volume of the women-hating posts. I knew there were misoginist twats out there, but I never in my wildest nightmares imagined that it's the majority view.

I know, it's overwhelming isn't it, when you first realise. LIke Greer says " women will never understand how much men hate them"
she elaborates on what she means (all men hate women some of the time, some men hate women all of the time) , but when I read that line I got it

Report
AbsDuCroissant · 25/01/2011 12:16

It's not the majority view - it's just the loudest and most active at posting on DM view. Chances are, they're as thick as two short planks and have that much time to post stupid, hate-filled comments on the DM website as there's little else going on in their lives. and they're sexually frustrated

Report
sakura · 25/01/2011 12:17

all men hate some women some of the time
(after a break-up, for example)
