re the goblins analogy, I probably wouldn't have a problem if it was goblins; I would if it was golliwogs though.
Similarly, cyclopses and hydras wouldn't bother me but if it was 'Trip up the cripple!' with cartoon Tiny Tims it would.

Well, I have to admit you would not normally find me in 'feminism' - but I emailed White Stuff too and got the same standard reply from them as Tabouleh did - if they are chucking out standard responses I am guessing they've had quite a few complaints about this.

I think my concern was that they are billing the game as family fare and yet ripping off a song title which (regardless of the fact that the protagonist is a woman) was deemed so highly offensive that MTV banned the video and the BBC censored the lyrics.

I mentioned in my email that even Johnnie Boden would not be stupid enough to insult even a small proportion of his client base Hmm

I've asked them to take me off their mailing list anyway.

TBH I'm inclined to shrug and think "meh" about this in comparison to some issues. It's not the end of the world, clearly.

But THEN I remember that ACTUALLY NO it isn't just about stories but in fact FUCKING MILLIONS of women (and some men) were killed for being "wicked witches".

And then I start thinking, well the witch-hunts were part of that era's brand of misogyny, the prodigy song was part of the 90s era misogyny (vid notwithstanding - the song was written quite apart from the video director's decision to use a woman, as I'm sure you know)...it's just part of the same tired old continuum innit.

Goblinchild - I'm so sorry. I come from a position of non-goblin privilege and to be honest I had never really thought about what it means to be a goblin in a non-goblin dominated world. I am fully contrite and will make a donation to a Goblins Refuge as soon as I can find one.

Surely you have to be giving Mums a bad name? My 6 yr old loved this in the spirit it was intended! Fairutale fun. I'm disgusted with the comments that do not promote femininity but give us women a bad name.
