Feminist Boys names...? Er...

Adair · 12/09/2010 10:55

ok, so dc3 is going to be a boy... And we are a bit stuck for names. So thought might as well see if you have any ideas!

Dd is Aphra (fine, feminist name)

Ds is Sky/Skyler (er... maybe feminist in that we don't care if people think he is a girl... !)

So any ideas for cool men in history that could inspire a good name?

Ta Grin

Ooh, x-post... I was wondering Artemis variant or Apollo... Hmmm... lots more to consider (less now that Tiffany-SCUM is off the list).

I like Apollo, but that's quite a name. What about Geronimo? Gallileao? can't spell....

ISNT · 13/09/2010 18:57

Am surprised there are comments saying to give him a normal name.

I don't see any outlandish or unusual suggestions on this thread.

Andre rather than Andrea? Tenuous I admit, but just wanted to join in the hilarity that is this thread. Trying to explain to DH why I'm laughing so much, but he just doesn't get it. And they say feminists are humourless...purleese!

LynetteScavo · 13/09/2010 21:37

Hillary, after Hillary Clinton.

Or should that be Hilary?Confused

cloudydays · 17/09/2010 04:50

Doesn't seem your style but a good, solid boy's name is Anthony.

As in Susan B.

onimolap · 17/09/2010 20:32

if you want another playwright/spy, how about Marlowe?

And you could keep the other theme by using middle names such as Unity Freeman.

Adair · 11/10/2012 14:37

We named him Max.

imilian?
or just im?
or neither?

LastMangoInParis · 12/10/2012 00:21

Has anyone suggested Maria yet?

LastMangoInParis · 12/10/2012 00:23

Or Christie. After Agatha.
Or James. After PD.
Or Emile, after Pankhurst.

Or Eugene. I like Eugene.

LastMangoInParis · 12/10/2012 00:24

Or Austen. After Jane.

Really, OP, there's a ton of possiblities out there.

LastMangoInParis · 12/10/2012 00:27

Artemis.
After Artemisia Gentilesche (if that's what she was called... Confused)

Or Harry. After Harriet Tubman. (Or Tubs/Tubby?)

Or Parker. After Rosa Parks. (Or Ross? - could also ref Rosa Luxemburg that way)

LastMangoInParis · 12/10/2012 00:27

Ross would also ref Diana, of course.

Adair · 26/10/2012 17:01

Ah, Tei I get you now!
He is an im officially.
But really he is a Maxy...

Congratulations on your Max, Adair - one of my friends is Frederick Maximillian Lastname - he said that his mum must've had a thing for emperors... [hgrin]

I've been industriously taking notes from this thread for when DS2 is born in December.

DH and I actually discussed Aneurin for DS1. I still think "Nye" is a nice name. Ach well, Dworkin Tiffany-Scum Stuart Currants it is [hwink]

EldritchCleavage · 29/10/2012 11:55

Yes, congratulations, OP!

blackcurrants, what about a nice unisexy name like Caryl (see Caryl Phillips, the rather dishy novelist) or go Shakesperian, with Corin or Arden.

blackcurrants · 29/10/2012 13:01

I have a very fashionable and extremely clever friend called Corin, she's ace - but it does make it a girl's name, in my head. Even though, as she points out, it's a boy's name in Narnia...

EldritchCleavage · 29/10/2012 14:45

No, it's a boy's name. Corinne and Corinna are the girl's versions (traditionally, anyway).

TeiTetua · 30/10/2012 20:04

Start giving a boy's name to girls and it will become lost (to boys) forever. I haven't met many male Leslies, lately.

Artemis was a goddess (Greek equivalent of Diana, but the Roman name seems to get used more now) so if you made up a male version, you'd really be sending the wee lad out into new territory.

MMMarmite · 30/10/2012 20:11

Artemis Fowl is a pretty well known male Artemis among children. The hero of a fantasy crime series who plots to steal magic from the faeries.
