Feminist Boys names...? Er...

Adair · 12/09/2010 10:55

ok, so dc3 is going to be a boy... And we are a bit stuck for names. So thought might as well see if you have any ideas!

Dd is Aphra (fine, feminist name)

Ds is Sky/Skyler (er... maybe feminist in that we don't care if people think he is a girl... !)

So any ideas for cool men in history that could inspire a good name?

Ta Grin

Go on, Dogfish, what's your suggestion?

I don't really understand why naming somebody after someone you admire (relative/famous/pioneer) is such a no-no. Anyway, I'm not. I want some inspiration for names I might not have thought of (like Keir). And if they have a positive association all the better.

dogfish wrote - "I really don't see the point of naming him after a famous feminist supporter though, and if my parents had done that it would have turned me against the whole idea (am a bloke)."

Lets' hope for the sake of your self-esteem that your parents didn't give you a really off-the-wall name such as John or Stuart, named after John Stuart Mill, a supporter of women's rights. Wink

ISNT · 13/09/2010 13:19

I don't either. Loads of people use names of people they admire, and always have, I think. Royal names have always been popular, and these days lots of babies are named after film stars, singers etc. I think it's fine and quite normal, isn't it? I remember a spate of Kylies when I was young, same thing innit Grin

'and if my parents had done that it would have turned me against the whole idea'

Oooh if that's thecase then the generation of Jordans, Chardonnays and Mercedes will turn out to be interesting.......

sethstarkaddersmum · 13/09/2010 13:42

I wonder what has happened to the noble tradition of naming your child after an entire football team.

AnyFucker · 13/09/2010 13:50

OP...where was your child conceived ?

That seems to be popular these days...

Adair · 13/09/2010 14:43

Seth, we've already done that of sorts - dd's initials are AFC - coincidence that dh's team are Arsenal of course...). Hmmm, maybe we ought to look at the current squad to see if anything inspiring there (sadly, couldn't name one player off the top of my head).

AF, good thinking! Er... Walthamstow. Damn.

oh Walthamstow is a gorgeous name if you overlook the associations Grin

OK so

Clarkson Herman Walthamstow Arsenal Kier Wilberforce Adair

I think it has a certain ring to it Grin

(I was trying to get the initials to spell a rude word but I ran out of patience Grin)

ISNT · 13/09/2010 16:13

actually yes that is a good point. always make sure the initials don't spell a rude word...

easy to overlook the basics in teh excitement of feminist male-child naming procedures Grin

AnyFucker · 13/09/2010 16:50

walt

a good name

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/09/2010 16:54

How about Wollstonecraft Dworkin Arshavin Sojourner Adair?

First XI

AnyFucker · 13/09/2010 17:05

How about Wollstonecraft Walthamstow Arshavin Sojourner Dworkin Dittany

Bloody brilliant Grin

sethstarkaddersmum · 13/09/2010 17:09

He has to have a girl's name in there too, to make sure he is in touch with his feminine side.
I suggest Primrose.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/09/2010 17:21

Dworkin Walthamstow Dittany Arshavin Lily-Mae Wilberforce Adair.

Adair · 13/09/2010 17:28

Ok, NOW we are getting somewhere.

Dworkin is growing on me. I imagine small geeky boy who then becomes cool-geeky in the 6th form...

Actually, Walthamstow isn't such a bad name. But seeing as how we actually live here, might get a bit confusing Grin.

I don't do old man names so Walt and Wilberforce are out. Shiney (are you Shiney? i get confused with all the Shines), I like Theo but a) is mil dog's name and b) dh doesn't like it.

Primrose... um...

Keep going...

Egalite Sojourner Squillaci Tiffany-SCUM Adair.

ISNT · 13/09/2010 18:26

BINGO!

I think we have a winner.

Tiffany-SCUM is briliant, catchy and modern, yet elegant and with a natural classic quality.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/09/2010 18:29

Give him a NORMAL name.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 13/09/2010 18:32

where I come from, Tiffany-SCUMs are 2 a penny, amothersplace

PosieParker · 13/09/2010 18:33

My ds has the male and latin equivalant of the GReek Goddess of animals and the wildland.

PosieParker · 13/09/2010 18:34

Artemus Somerset parker

Adair · 13/09/2010 18:38

Posie, give us another clue - initial? (not up on my Greek Goddesses)

Elephants, I don't want a 2-a-penny name, I want a you-neek name that shows how marvellous, self-indulgent and pretentious I am.
