Misogynists have always got willy issues, haven't they?

Deep down, they simultaneously fear and revere the Mighty Phallus. So whatever the size of their own, they are either hugely ostentatiously impressed by it, (and other men's), or terrified that it's inadequate and the only way the can be a Real Mens is by dissing women (even though the atual clammy unappealing organ is no less than average.)
I've seen a LOT of willies. Most of them are pretty much standard size. SO, boys, get over it. It's just a willy.

I dont' agree with you, but you've reminded me of Kate Adie's comment on the war on Afghanistan:

"The world?s most powerful nations are fighting one of the weakest. It?s a load of willy waving."

Sakura · 14/08/2010 07:14

Absolutely SGB,
Misogynists appear to believe women have got penis-envy, that we envy the fact they've got a penis and we lack one, and that we want to be men.

But every feminist knows misogynists have got womb envy.
Which is why men are obsessed with making robots and shit, and why the medical establishment is hyper-occupied with fertility treatment. Only females can create life from their bodies and this pisses them off no end.

earwicga · 14/08/2010 07:58

Yeah Sakara, I've never heard of women working in the fertility field or of women wanting fertility treatment. Women cannot create life from their bodies without sperm, which afaik can't be created synthetically. Or are you talking about artificial cloning?

SGB - isn't your generalisation as unhelpful as the one that feminists are hairy legged man haters?

HumphreyCobbler · 14/08/2010 08:23

reminds me of this poem

earwicga · 14/08/2010 08:28

Aw HumphreyCobbler, that's sad. I find penises rather beautiful. In fact, bodies are beautiful.

HumphreyCobbler · 14/08/2010 08:31

it is a funny poem in response the Freud's penis envy theory that has caused such realms of comment,

SGB was talking aboput mysongysists, not men in general

HumphreyCobbler · 14/08/2010 08:32

sorry about spelling, DD helping on my lap

Sakura · 14/08/2010 08:32

YOu find penises beautiful? Confused
Interesting, maybe, but beautiful?

No, sorry I do not see any aesthetic beauty in penises, just like I don't see beauty in a turkey's wattle (the bit hanging on its neck)

But then again, beauty is is the eye of the beholder

ISNT · 14/08/2010 08:42

Tee hee hee

Earwicga I think this thread is about another thread TBH and needs to be taken in that way.

Sakura, I would like to make robots Confused

I like the Honda one that can go up and down stairs, I could watch it for hours. I think they have got it to run now...

Yes I think it's called asimo. What they have done is so clever - and reflects how clever our bodies are - that it takes all of those years and people and money to creat something that can "walk" like a human.

For some reason I always see robots as chidlike and want to look after them Confused and dear god the floods of tears when they shut hal down in 2001. Even after he had killed all the people.

I'm not too up on recent robot developments these days Sad

claig · 14/08/2010 10:35

I don't think it is to do with willies, I think it is to do with masculinity. I think that many misogynists are men who feel inadequate as men, but this is not because of their willies. They fall short of the ideal of masculinity to which they are aspiring and feel lesser men and want to distance themselves from women in order to prove that they are masculine.

We have been discussing SH, and I think his misogyny came from his own self-loathing. If you watch his interviews, you see that he is quite effeminate. He wears nail varnish and even looks at his nails in a feminine way (i.e. with the fingers extended rather than curled over as men do). He had homosexual affairs and many of his friends were homosexuals. I think that he didn't feel very masculine and was ashamed of it and tried to hide his true nature under the disguise of a dandy etc. His misogyny was a hatred of the feminine and of the feminine part within himself. His lies about his exploits were an attempt to prove his masculinity, and his denigration of women was a way to try and prove how masculine as opposed to feminine he was.

Sammyuni · 14/08/2010 10:44

I don't think you can ever say a group of people are what they are due to 1 thing. i think there are a number of reasons why they may be a misogynist

.Some may have penis issues
.May just hate women due to bad experiences with women.
.It was part of their upbringing and they are set in their ways
.Have issues with their masculinity, or should i say 'ultra' masculinity many tend to exhibit behaviours which exaggerate on the masculinity scale.

I am sure there others also but i can't think of anymore at the moment.

Katiekitty · 14/08/2010 10:48

Great post Claig.

I've been following all the SH and FOSH stuff on here.

Your analysis is superb and far-reaching towards misogyny (and the extremists such as SH)

claig · 14/08/2010 10:51

you're right, it's not just one thing. But often it is to do with inadequacy. Hatred of women is unusual, it is not normal, so it is either due to very bad experiences, fear or inadequacy.

Sakura · 14/08/2010 12:02

yes that's it claig

Sorry, didn't mean to impy women didn't want to make robots!
I'm just confused as to why its such a preoccupation. In Japan they recently made a "female" robot, which got loads of publicity, but to me it basically just looked like a machine with a mask on and a wig.
I was like this Hmm. Yeah, she's female, isn't she.
In fact my first thought was, that's shit, C3PO on Star Wars was much better.
THen I thought about it and realised there was a real man inside that robot body, an actor.
So I do think lots of money and resources, a disproportionate amount, goes on trying to play God and recreate life.

Snorbs · 14/08/2010 13:09

A lot of money and resources are going into humanoid robot research because humanoid robots that can operate in a human world would be immensely more useful and flexible than any other kind.

Nearly all the tools, vehicles, household items and other manufactured stuff in the world is built to be used by humans. A humanoid robot would be able to step into that role a lot easier than redesigning everything to fit a non-humanoid robot.

Research into humanoid robots has also led to some significant advances in prosthetics, machine-vision systems and telekinetics as well as more subtle work that is influencing research into human learning and emotional processing.

It's not about playing god, it's about chasing the Big Bucks.

Sakura · 14/08/2010 14:17

chasing the big bucks is a problem for feminists you see.
Because women are left out of that. WOmen are the world's poor, apart from a minority few.
"Chasing the big bucks" is what men have the privilege to do under patriarchy-capitalism

WOmen need socialist-type policies for their status to improve, not a few men chasing the big bucks

The political and economic system of patriarchy-capitalism believes these humanoid robot things are important.

I, on the other hand, do not.

Sammyuni · 14/08/2010 14:33

A humanoid robot would probably lead to a loss of jobs in many sectors i am pretty sure. However i am also interested in them though a catch 22 so to speak.

Snorbs · 14/08/2010 14:45

Sakura, I'm confused - first you were saying that the research into humanoid robots was bad because it was driven by men with womb-envy. Now you're saying it's bad because it's capitalist. Which is it?

Sammyuni, you're right - usable humanoid robots would lead to loss of jobs in many sectors, just like the introduction of computers led to the loss of jobs in many sectors and as did the industrial revolution before it. But then both revolutions also opened up jobs in many more sectors and arguably lead to an overall improvement in the standard of living, albeit after a painful and difficult adjustment period.

Sakura · 14/08/2010 14:57

patriarchy and capitalism feed off each other, which is why socialist-type policies are better for women as a group.

The obession with robots and cloning (I believe) does stem from patriarchal driven womb envy, because it is almost fanatical the way societies prioritizes those things above others.

Which brings us to capitalism. UNder capitalism, certain things are given priority, while other things, such as meeting children's basic needs, are neglected.

Then you have to ask yourself, whether a system that thinks making robots and letting a few men chase the big bucks at the expense of women and children is any system at all.

DuelingFanjo · 14/08/2010 14:59

I would say it's largely to do with how they have been parented, no?
