DD's are 17 and 15. Neither have had periods in over 6 months (6 months for the 15 yr old and 8 months for the older DD).

GP ran blood tests for the older one and everything came back fine. Told me not to be concerned and wait a few more monthS.

Should I be concerned?

I'll ask MN to change the title.

When did periods start

LittleEsme · 13/07/2023 21:36

17yr old was 15 when she started.
15 year old was 14 when she started. She'll be 16 next month.

I don't have a medical background so take this lightly but it's normal for periods to fluctuate early on.

Are both healthy weight? Feeling ok in themselves? Do you know if they are sexually active?

TitoMojito · 13/07/2023 21:43

Being underweight and stress can both stop periods. I remember missing a few over the years at school, usually around exam time. Could either of those be a factor for your DDs?

LittleEsme · 13/07/2023 22:06

Thanks both.

Both girls have a healthy appetite and diet. They're both average weight and have had a break from exercise because of heavy exam workloads. They have been stressed but not overly so, I would have thought and neither are sexually active.

I always got told they don't regulate till late teens early 20s.. my was on and off for about 4 years

Stopsnowing · 13/07/2023 22:08

I know that women sync when they live together. Perhaps that applies if one stops.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/07/2023 22:09

As they're old enough to make their own decisions medically, could they have gone on the Pill so they can back to back packets and avoid a period buggering up exams?

Catastrophejane · 13/07/2023 22:11

It’s been a long time since I was a teenage girl, but my periods stopped for a few months when I had covid.

It’s still doing the rounds. Loads of people getting it think it’s mild cold/ hay fever.

Sugarflowers · 13/07/2023 22:14

My period disappeared for a few months after i got covid.

Presumably if that were the case they wouldn't have asked their mum and gone to the GP about it though.

TheUsualChaos · 13/07/2023 22:15

Mine were quite erratic into late teens. If they are both healthy and happy I wouldn't get worried about it. Exams likely to be a factor at the moment.

Smoothiecarton · 13/07/2023 22:33

Could be just coincidence, or could there be anything environmental , like exposure to pesticides?

gogomoto · 13/07/2023 22:36

Dd went 7 months last year, gp said it's covid messing with cycles but they are still collating the evidence. They did come back but she had ultrasounds etc in case pregnancy tests were wrong!

LittleEsme · 14/07/2023 08:22

Thanks everyone. I feel reassured.

Freshair87 · 14/07/2023 10:33

I agree with pp it's most likely covid related, it played havoc with mine!

LittleEsme · 14/07/2023 19:56

This has got me thinking.
How many women's periods have been erratic since covid?
Maybe I should have posted this in AIBU or Chat.
Mine have stopped completely but then I'm 50.

Anecdotally from speaking to friends, lots. But weirdly don't think it's been researched in any of the official surveys so not sure if there is any data about this. It seems a massive oversight and I'm surprised its not being more widely reported/talked about.

LittleEsme · 15/07/2023 12:41

@Sugarflowers I feel the same

My twin daughter's period both stopped last September- not come back yet. How is it going with your girls?

LittleEsme · 25/11/2023 10:47

Both have re-started - my 17 yr old was after 8 months and 15 yr old after 7. Very irregular and extremely heavy - so much so my 17 year old has been to GP and they've given her a combination pill.

No one seems to be talking about this though.

My 14yr old hasn't had a period for 6 months but was previously like clockwork. I'm waiting to see what happens.

Mine were very irregular until my mid 20's and I often went many months without a period. But because DD used to be like clockwork I'm wondering why hers have disappeared.

JamSandle · 25/11/2023 11:05

I remember my periods stopping during exam time. I didnt remember being stressed but my body must have been. They started again once my exams stopped.
