Abnormality found on ultrasound

I’ve been having weird bleeding the last sort of 10 months on & off. I’m 35 & have always had regular periods. However the last 10 months they’ve gone on longer, started again mid month etc.

Had an internal ultrasound today & was told that the lining of my womb is thicker in a certain place. I was told this ‘might’ be a polyp but they weren’t sure. I don’t see the consultant now for 3 weeks to discuss results & my mind is racing.

Anyone had this previously?

I have, quite recently.
I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy and it was fine.

I’m a sonographer. I don’t know the exact figures for how common endometrial polyps are but I’d say I see atleast 1 per week. They’re generally nothing to worry about in pre menopausal women and can be removed

@overworkThank you for that. I think what is worrying me is the way they said they could see something abnormal & it could be a polyp but may not be. Just feels like a very long wait until my consultation in 2 weeks time & no date given yet for when they’ll biopsy it/remove it.

I had a CT scan and internal scan in June. They both found thickened endometrial lining.
I am still waiting for the gynae appointment.
i have also had bleeding and they have told me to stop my HRT and they will do a repeat scan.
I am beginning to think I will never see a consultant.

@cityliving99Gosh I’m sorry you’re still having to wait that does seem a long time. Did they mention anything other than a thickened lining to give you a clue as to what it could be?

That's what they told me. They have to, even though the likelihood is that it'll be a polyp.

Just had a call from the doctors to say the report says the report says it suspects a polyp but the size of the polyp is 2.6cm by 1.1cm.. which when I’m googling says it’s very large for a polyp & could potentially be something else…

I had this. It was a large polyp. Totally fine after removal

@LegolasladyWas yours a similar size?

I’m absolutely freaking out & I know there’s nothing I can do but the fact it’s so large is not googling well

I had exactly this. As well as a 6 month period, I had a hysteroscopy within 2 weeks and they removed the massive polyp and did some tests. It all came back fine. The lovely consultant suggested that I started taking the mini pill and I haven’t bled since. Hope that it’s the same for you.

Yes it was. I asked to see it ( well i watched them remove it in the monitor too) . It was large. they said it's so common. Try not to worry

Apparently, although they didn’t say how big it was. It was described as a “sizeable mass”, which obviously sent me into a spin. It was tested and I just had a letter saying no further action needed. Hopefully it’ll be the same for you.

@Busydoingsomethingcan you remember how long the results took to come through from when they removed it?

They did tell me on the day that they were pretty sure it was a benign polyp

Thanks all. I wish I could just have the procedure done asap. Not sure how I’m going to keep my mind occupied & not constantly spiralling. The not knowing is the worst part.

My results took 14 weeks.
I mean, the actual histology took that long - but they told me straight after the surgery that it looked benign.

You could enquire about getting it done privately. It would be done more or less straight away and results given very quickly.

Oh well. They warned me it could be 18 weeks, so it wasn't as bad as they'd suggested.

They're very good at working out which biopsied material should be fast-tracked.

If they'd thought it was malignant when they looked at it, it would have been done more quickly.

@whattodoforthebest2I have done that.. they’ve offered a potential procedure the week after next but not 100% yet. I’m also not sure if the results are any quicker than the NHS but I’ll ask.
