Anterior Prolapse Repair Op - sh*tting myself

Honeysucklelane · 07/07/2025 16:55

Not literally….which is the whole problem.

I’ve been on the waiting list 18 months now and been given a date in a couple of weeks to have the repair op.

Having been warned by the doctor it’s a really painful thing to recover from I am panicking. I hate being ill / in pain as it is.

I also worry about things like dying (and leaving my children without a mother) or ending up with worse problems (unable to have sex etc) just for the sake of fixing this issue.

What type of doctor told you the recovery is painful? You will have a pack after the procedure which is removed after a day or two. You won’t be able to lift for a few weeks and will need to take it easy for a few weeks but there’s no pain involved . Not sure what they are referring to?

It’s a posterior prolapse repair. I was referred to a specialist at the hospital. It then went to some sort of committee to decide if I could have it done. A lady gynaecologist rang me up and questioned me about my symptoms and laid it on thick about how it’s a really painful operation to recover from compared to what they actually do. She put the fear of god into me to be honest. I’ve been waiting over 18 months to have it done.

Had it done a few months ago. I was given painkillers afterwards of course and laxatives. It was VERY uncomfortable for 2 days. Like sitting on barbed wire in that area but then it got better. No regrets for having it. Go girl!! Don’t live with your current symptoms. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for replying. How long did it take to be able to do regular stuff? We are going away 2 weeks after.

If you recover at the same pace you’ll enjoy that ‘going away’ as long as you don’t lift anything of weight for a while. 👍🏻

Hey. I had a hysterectomy plus a posterior and anterior prolapse repair on Monday and I’m actually doing ok. When I woke up I had pain but no more than a painful period, my back was aching and randomly so were my legs! I’ve not had to take anything other than paracetamol and ibuprofen. I’m not doing much around the house but I did manage to get to my daughters leaving assembly on Friday, I was knackered after for the rest of the day but it was ok. The worst part of all of it was the vaginal pack, it felt really uncomfortable while it was there and then the nurse taking it out was a bit painful but it lasted about 20 seconds and then it was gone.

Just ensure you don’t let yourself get constipated after, that’s been my main worry this week because they really scared me so I’m keeping on top of it and drinking my laxido like clockwork!

Blimey you’ve had the full works! Glad you’re recovering ok, it gives me hope! I’m not great with pain and being laid up. I have had a womb ablation done and that wasn’t too bad.

I had posterior repair and sacrohysteropexy in October 2022 and had no pain.. just bloating for a few days.. but please be careful going away, in terms if overdoing things, like lifting or standing or walking too long.. you’ll be fine.. it was my first surgery ever and was petrified but it was really easy.. done in an hour.. ☺️

Weepixie · 20/07/2025 20:26

I had this done in December and it was pain free. I didn’t even take the panadol offered afterwards and within a couple of hours of going back to my room I was up, showered, changed into fresh clothes and waiting for my visitors.

One thing I will say though is that the size of my vagina has definitely changed as has the angle and at 67 it’s big that much of a side effect to live with but if I was younger and way more sexually active I think it could be impactful on a relationship.

But pain following surgery - no, I had none.

Everything was falling down 😂 I had an ablation back in 2014 as well and the pain was no more than having that done so try not to worry too much.

@Riversidegirl @Weepixie

How long did you have to stay in hospital?

Riversidegirl · 20/07/2025 21:04

Day surgery

What do you mean size and angle? In which way?

Weepixie · 20/07/2025 21:11

I stayed in hospital till the next day but only because I also have vulval Lichen Sclerosus and they wanted to keep an eye on me a wee bit longer. But honestly, the surgery was nothing much at all.

Weepixie · 20/07/2025 21:21

I think what I’ve said is self explanatory but if not then Google is your friend.

And just a wee bit of advice - if you ever need to ask someone to elaborate on a post, especially one covering a subject like this, remembering your manners when asking would help you come across better than you have.

Oh for goodness sake. You mentioned it but without clarity. Give the OP a break. She was only asking what we all wanted clarity on. Can I suggest you don’t click bait on your post and then pull a responder up for questioning. That would be good manners.

Weepixie · 21/07/2025 15:56

@Riversidegirl , the OP?

I think you’re confused.

Riversidegirl · 21/07/2025 16:10

OK. I apologise for getting the wrong person. See? That’s manners 👍🏻

Weepixie · 21/07/2025 16:52

The following are also an example of good manners

I don’t understand what you mean. Can you explain please

what does this mean please

Jeez I had no idea about this - just what does it mean

Would you mind elaborating on this please

How can I find out more about this please

Bad manners are -

What do you mean size and angle? In which way?
Perhaps though, the poster just goes go through life without any idea whatsoever of how to approach questions of an intimate nature without sounding at best like a ram raid.

Agree, @Weepixie 's post was unclear, googling is likely to be not always helpful on this subject and the OP is anxious, she doesn't need to be pulled up like that. It's a chat forum, not a formal letter-writing exercise.

Hold on….I am the OP and it wasn’t me who asked about the size / angle thing, I’ve only just seen that now.

@Honeysucklelane I had this surgery about 14 years ago. It wasn't acutely painful but I couldn't sit comfortably and it was a couple of months at least till I could sit on hard upright seats. My padded office chair was still somewhat uncomfortable when I went back to work at 6 weeks. Also you have to be REALLY careful about lifting, I was advised nothing heavier than a half full kettle for 2 weeks and then gradually build up. So for your travels I think it depends how far you are going. I was shattered for the first couple of weeks.

Another thing - you do NOT want to catch a cough during recovery. If you are flying or going to crowded places a mask would probably be a good idea. I got a cough and it was not fun.

Eek! Great advice and tips thank you! We’d be travelling by car, but off to a touristy place. I think I may have to postpone surgery.
