Anyone had the pleasures of endometrial ablation?

I'm praying this will put an end to my horrendously heavy periods. Has anyone had this and seen an improvement? My consultant said for some people it does nothing, for some it stops bleeding altogether.

Yes, I had it done about 15 years ago. It absolutely changed my life. My gynaecologist said that it doesn't work on everyone and some women will need a hysterectomy within about 5 years but it works perfectly for me. No bleeding at all.

Lemondrizzling · 01/05/2024 19:31

Worked for me- not a single bleed for 7 years!

Willreadanddigest · 01/05/2024 19:32

Best thing I ever had done. I had unbelievably heavy periods, but after the ablation I had no bleeding at all for a couple of years. Now they are just very light and last a day. Hope it works out well for you.

This is music to my ears!! I'll be so happy if it works for me too. Thanks ladies

No bleeding far 7 years now. It’s been amazing

MrsCrumPinnett · 01/05/2024 19:37

Mine were so heavy that I couldn’t leave the house, my ferritin was at 9 and I could barely function, and my ablation improved things to the point they were ‘normal’, which they’d never been, and I got my life back. Wholly recommended!

Moier · 01/05/2024 19:50

I was one of the first women to have a Electrosurgery – A resectoscope, which has an electrical wire loop, spiked-ball tip or roller-ball attached to it, is inserted into the uterus via the cervix and is used to destroy the uterus lining.( l was even featured in That's life magazine)
There is now about 4 other ways for an ablation.
Unfortunately it didn't work so well and ended up having a total hysterectomy.
But guess l was a guinea pig.

MissBedelia · 01/05/2024 19:51

Yes. It was life changing. From scenes off a horror film pretty much constantly to <touch wood> no periods.

Littlemissprosecco · 01/05/2024 19:52

I’m had an ablation, it didn’t work, because they got the diagnosis wrong. Ended up with a hysterectomy

primroseandplum · 01/05/2024 20:05

I had an endometrial ablation about 14 years ago. It did work in that it reduced the agonising and long flooding periods but it left me in a lot of pain - a sort of burning pain that wasn't there before.

I ended up being diagnosed with adenomyosis and had a partial hysterectomy (partial at my insistence, keeping cervix and ovaries).

Oh my god this is exciting. My ferritin is 4 and HB has been as low as 60 (should be at least 120!) and I am desperate to stop these arsehole periods!

Ism prepared that if it doesn't work the next step will be a hysterectomy. It would be great if I didn't have to go that far though. Hope it has solved your problems. The shit us women have to deal with!

I had very heavy periods which over time progressed to the first day of my having to take the day off work if it was a working day and basically sit on the toilet for hours at a time as the bleeds was so heavy and a sanitary towel would fill up in seconds.

It was debilitating and made life difficult each month.

Having an ablation was fantastic,

I had mine done under a general anaesthetic as they were going to remove an ovarian cyst so decided to do the ablation at the same time.

No more periods ever again. None. It's now been over ten years.

Absolutely fantastic.

That's fantastic. So glad it worked out for you. I think sometimes people don't realise when you say your periods are heavy, they are can't get off the toilet heavy, changing a super plus tampon and night time pad every 20 minutes heavy! I just want to get this done now, I dread my periods and am paranoid constantly about leaking, sudden gushes when I stand up, having to get up two or three times in the night to change. It really does ruin your life!

Yes, I was told there was a risk of it going wrong and requiring a hysterectomy when I had it, but it was ok. And solved my horrific bleeding.

DazedAndKerfuddled · 02/05/2024 08:59

Oh my gosh yes i had one 8/9 years ago and its amazing!

No periods although for a while i had a tiny bit of spotting, literally wipe and gone spotting, but that hasnt happened in a few years now either

For me the risk of it failing and having to have a hysterectomy was worth it as i was already sterilised when i was 25, and had asked for the hysterectomy then. But honestly im quite glad i only needed the ablation and that it worked so well

Berlinlover · 02/05/2024 09:16

I had an ablation in 2019, it didn’t work because I had fibroids. I ended up getting a hysterectomy six months ago due to cancer.

I had to use a menstrual cup, three overnight pads, and (as recommended on here) incontinence pants just to be able to go out of the house.

it was horrendous: went on for a year non stop. Ablation sorted it. I just got it done outpatient

I had an ablation in 2019, it didn’t work because I had fibroids. I ended up getting a hysterectomy six months ago due to cancer.

I had a massive fibroid removed in September, I thought that would be the cause of the excessive bleeding but it made no difference. Was your cancer related to your heavy bleeding or fibroids if you don't mind me asking? Hope you are now fully recovered.

I gave up using a menstrual cup, it kept getting so full it tipped over.... half a pint of blood down my leg!!

I am another ablation success story. Had mine in 2007 for horrible heavy periods that were ruining my life. Not had a bleed of any sort since. Totally transformed my life! I hope it works for you, too @rollonretirementfgs

Yes, I had mine in Sept 22 , after several years of horrendous periods. I had am awful incident at work where I stood up from my desk and it was like a jug of blood fell out. Awful. Days of not being able to leave the house, struggling to parent (single) snall children. Even blocked drains due to the excess loo roll.

I do still have periods but they are generally very light. I do though, get a LOT of pain, which I never had when they were heavy.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 02/05/2024 20:49

Watching with interest. Recently had Hysteroscopy and waiting on biopsy results, if all clear they have recommended I have ablation.

Ahh ok, sorry to hear you're getting pain, do you take Mefenamic acid? If taken correctly they do tend to sort out period pains pretty well I've found
