Terrified - Smear results - high grade moderate dyskararosis

solstaruk · 29/01/2023 16:00

Hi everyone
I am sitting here in a right state. I have just had my smear results and they are HPV positive with high grade moderate abnormal cells.

My last smear in 2019 was HPV negative and the one in 2018 was HPV positive but no cell changes.

I am terrified because in that time it has gone and is now ‘back’ and gone to high grade.

I bled during my smear but not after. I am convinced it is something absolutely awful that they will find at colposcopy:(

I am a mum to a gorgeous 9 year old boy.

I feel your pain...mine was also high grade moderate last April...had a biopsy and leetz which came back cin 1...
Then 6 months later at my test of cure came back high grade again 😪just had another llefz 3 weeks ago hoping its gone this time 😪

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 29/01/2023 21:48

I ping-pong between CIN 1 and 3 at my apps so it's very frustrating.
I know how you feel and honestly, I felt the same. It's good it's been found because it can be explored

GoT1904 · 29/01/2023 22:00

Hey. If your smear translates correctly over to your colposcopy then it should show up as CIN 2.

I got my first abnormal smear at 19. It was borderline then. I was closely monitored all the way to being 26, where gradually over the years I went to severe dyskaryosis and had CIN 2/3. I had a colposcopy and the LLETZ procedure (that was fine even though I'm quite squeemish) and have had negative smears ever since. I'm 32 now.

I've had many many smears, colposcopies and biopsies over the years so if you want to know anything, feel free to ask.

The chances of this progressing are very small. Smears are a life saver. I think years ago my gynae told me that 1 in 5 women with CIN 3 would go on to eventually develop cancer. That's even lower for CIN 1 and 2.

It's scary to hear but the treatment is very effective and you're in the system now. Sending love xx

Hiya ..
I know it’s worrying but I’m currently in the same boat . My results in 2019 were fine
now they are high grade moderate cells and hpv positive.
I have been for my colposcopy and had my cells removed with the lleep procedure around 4 days ago now waiting for results. And I have 3 children so I know how you feel
it is quite common so at this stage try to relax if you need the treatment it’s usually very effective! xx

solstaruk · 30/01/2023 11:07

Thanks ladies @3babyxx how was the procedure? I am such a baby I am terrified.

I keep worrying I have cancer and since the letter I have had lower back pain and cervix twinges but not sure if just psychological.

Honestly the procedure was fine.. no pain at all apart from after you have some cramping. I personally didt take pain relief but it’s probably better too and a hot water bottle. Have you look up about the procedure..

i have had cramps, bleeding and heavy discharge for a few months now but I put it down to my coil. So just need to wait and see

yours is probably because your panicking if it’s only just come on . It’s a very small amount of people who actually have cancer . So try to not to worry too much and if you do it’s a big chance it’s been caught early and treatment is almost always successful! I feel so much better after having the procedure done though . Fingers crossed for you and let us know how you get on x

I am in the same boat as you and feel so anxious. I got a call direct to from the coloscopy clinic, which freaked me out and they were like "oh you did not hear from your gp?" Uh NO!!! I did not....my appt is this Wednesday. I once had this like done 10 years ago....but I still feel freaked out, as why can't my body just kick this hpv? So annoying.

SamPoodle123 · 31/01/2023 10:32

@solstaruk when do you get your biopsy? I get it tomorrow. I am waiting for the nurse from my GP to call to let me know what is going on. I got a call direct from the hopsital yesterday and they made my appt for tomorrow, which FREAKS me out. I am really anxious waiting to hear back from the nurse. She was supposed to call at 10am.....

solstaruk · 31/01/2023 14:46

So I went in today for the colscopy and the Dr said he is pretty sure I will need treatment. I had the option to do it there, but decided to wait, as needed to pick up my dd from school and no plan in place for rest after. He said it looks like pre cancerous cells. I hate having to deal with this stuff, but better to take care of it.

What treatments do they do? Do they treat each time?

3babyxx · 01/02/2023 20:20

I had to pick my kids up an hour later everybody is different how they recover. But I was fine just no heavy lifting and try rest as much as you can . I had my procedure on the spot as I probably wouldn’t have went back 😩 x

Thanks for responding. Yes, the problem is my youngest is recently 3 and I don’t drive. Normally have to push her in stroller or sometimes carry her up the stairs etc, and she is heavy! Lol. But next week my au pair returns so she can help w that. I do kind of wish I just got the treatment over w.

I Have had crap sleep and feeling so anxious. The doctor said I’ll get biopsy results in a week. I questioned this bc online it usually says 2-4!! He said it’s normally faster and that he marked it as urgent so it will come in a week. Now I’m panicked and wish I asked why he marked urgent?!? My friend said he probably did that bc I was anxious etc bc her doctor has done that for her many times so tests come back quicker. I did say how anxious I was during the appointment.

3babyxx · 02/02/2023 08:32

My youngest has just turned 4 but isn’t in a push chair.. maybe when your due to have it done ask somebody if they can help you with school run and help out for a few hours in the evening so you can rest.. and ah maybe because they wanted to give you the treatment asap they’ve done it as an urgency! That’s a good thing though. Make sure you go for treatment though and I hope your biopsy comes back clear fingers crossed for you x

Hubblebubble · 02/02/2023 08:39

I know it's easier said than done but try not to panic. This is, in a way, good news. Its at such an early stage that they can treat it effectively. My abnormal cells were lazered off, I was monitored with regular smears to check they were gone for good, and then discharged.

SamPoodle123 · 02/02/2023 09:50

@3babyxx thanks, yes, I will def go for the treatment, even though those things scare the hell out of me. I am even more scared if it gets worse. My au pair will be able to help with the school run and carrying my youngest if needed. She walks sometimes, but not guaranteed at her age. Sometimes half way she decides she is tired, so I always have to bring push chair as it is worst to have to carry her the whole school run lol. Do you feel anxious at all waiting for the biopsy results? I am just feeling terrible with anxiety. I keep worrying if they actually find something worse. Of course stupid me kept looking on google.....

@Hubblebubble thanks, what was your initial smear? Was it high grade or low grade? What about the biopsy they did? Were you anxious waiting for the results?

I am just super sensitive and hyperviligant due to my anxiety, so I look at every detail and worry why this or that. For example I am worried why I got a colcoscopy appointment so fast (before my smear results even came!) and now I am worried why the doctor marked it as urgent so I can get the results back in a week. I want to think he saw I was anxious and did not want me to wait longer...but I of course worry that did he think it is something worse!?

Hubblebubble · 02/02/2023 11:09

@SamPoodle123 it was high grade. I can't remember exactly how to spell it, but something like squagaliamous abnormal cells. All it took was one treatment.

Hubblebubble · 02/02/2023 11:11

I had a smear abroad as part of early pregnancy care. So I knew something was up, but I had to wait until three months after I'd given birth to have the NHS repeat everything and treat me. Honestly I wasn't anxious as it just went on for so so long.

Hubblebubble · 02/02/2023 11:12

Early pregnancy care abroad. I don't think it's normal in the UK. They ran a lot more and different tests abroad. If I'm cynical I think its because it was private and they charged.

SamPoodle123 · 02/02/2023 11:29

@Hubblebubble yes, they do a lot more tests for early pregnancy in the USA. For example they will do early scans etc. NHS they do not do anything until 12 weeks, unless there is a reason for it.

First time I had abnormal smear in the US they treated right away. Here they wait and see....unless it gets to moderate stage...then they do biopsy and treatment.

Bex4567 · 02/02/2023 14:04

I've had moderate twice now and treatment twice ....awaiting my biopsy results still its been 4 weeks...im going on the conclusion no news is good news....im sure they wpuld of got in contact with u sooner of there was anything sinister there

Yes, that is what I think. But the doctor said I would get mine back in a week, so that makes me a little nervous on why so speedy. How long did your results take first time around?

Bex4567 · 05/02/2023 17:33

First time round I think it wad about 4 weeks
