THRUSH IS KILLING ME! HELP!

Childbirth was nothing compared to this, I'm at a complete loss.
Possibly tmi but;
I started getting itchy and uncomfortable on Saturday morning, by the evening I began to swell around my vagina, the itching had intensified and I was getting very sore.
On Sunday morning I began using 2% canesten cream and a possery, I got no relief at all from those 😩
By Sunday afternoon I could barely walk and couldn't close my legs, everything is swollen, even around my pee hole (I'm not sure of the correct name for the entrance to the urethra 😳).
On Monday morning I took a fluconazole oral pill as well as ibuprofen&codine for the pain, still no relief.
Peeing is excruciating, it burns like the fires from hell. I think in the last 4 days I've only pee'd around 150ml of urine at the most, I don't know if it's due to the swelling but I can only release tiny drops at a time and even that causes me to cry/hyperventilate from the pain, I've had to either pee in the shower or continuously pour water over myself as I do it to try to minimise the agony (not that it works).
I've tried wearing a pad covered in live yogurt which does give some relief very briefly while it's nice and cold but that doesn't last long at all.
Earlier today it seemed like there's white discharge coming from my urethra as well as my vagina, the whole thing is just excruciatingly painful!
Since Sunday I've been pretty much incapacitated, any movement causes an intense burning, which really isn't great with an autistic toddler to look after.
For the last 2 days I've tried to get an appointment with my GP but it's just impossible, there are no regular appointments left for the whole week and even when I call first thing in the morning I'm on hold for ages then told there are no emergency appointments left and to try again tomorrow 🤦‍♀️
I'm at a real loss, what else can I do to make this go away??

Can you google your local sexual health clinic and contact them? TBH I think they would be a better bet than your GP.

starsinyourpies · 02/08/2022 22:22

I would call 111 and try to speak to out of hours GP. This sounds horrific!

endofthelinefinally · 02/08/2022 22:26

Meanwhile, lots of bathing with warm, salt water, drink lots of water and weak tea.

Augend23 · 02/08/2022 22:31

You can buy canesten HC which is canesten + hydrocortisone cream. I was prescribed it for bad thrush and found it waaaay more effective than canesten alone. You probably also need a longer course of fluconazole/a swab to confirm it's not bacterial vaginosis which can present similarly so I think I would try the OOO GP for that.

Moonchild18 · 02/08/2022 22:34

Speak to 111, it sounds as though you may also have a UTI, they can prescribe you some antibiotics to your nearest pharmacy

Annonnn · 02/08/2022 22:36

There was a sexual health clinic quite close to me but it closed down during covid, the next closest one to me now is only open on Mondays, I don't think I could stand this for almost another week 😥

I'm getting a bit worried about drinking too much, I've definitely drank 3-4 liters in the last 4 days but so little has came back out 😅

I've been dithering about whether to call 111 all day today, I think I'll have to give them a call in the morning.

happygolucky42 · 02/08/2022 22:42

It sounds like you need a two week course of pessaries. It worked for me.

Annonnn · 02/08/2022 22:44

I've taken a second fluconazole this evening out of desperation, I'm hoping it will suddenly kick in but that was over 5 hours ago with no change at all.

I'll definitely give canesten HC a try, I've spent a small fortune on creams and pills in the last few days but if it gets rid of this it's worth it!

I did wonder if I had developed a UTI from this but I have no pain inside the urethra and Dr Google did say bad thrush could cause discharge from the urethra (although uncommon) so I assumed it was all thrush related.

I really appreciate all the replies, thank you 😁

For short term relief, a cold can of coke between the legs works wonders! I agree that maybe your local sexual health clinic might be better than doctor, or maybe a walk in centre. You can't go on like that any longer.

mumof1or2 · 02/08/2022 22:46

Oh sorry - just read you don't have a sexual health clinic.

Augend23 · 02/08/2022 22:47

If you've taken multiple fluconazole and no luck then it's either a resistant strain or not yeast based. If you can't get into your surgery you might as well ring in tonight tbh as the trouble with OOO doctors is they only function out of hours. I guess you could ring the GP in the morning again and see if they can fit you in, and if not try 111. 111 in my area can book you in at your GP but that's not everywhere.

Rafferty10 · 02/08/2022 22:57

I used to suffer horrendously op many years ago this is what works for me every time,

For immediate relief wrap an ice pack in old tea towel and sit on it, or wedge between thighs, have several, use all the time you sit, in car, on sofa etc.
Wear long floaty skirt, no pants at home. No jeans or tights.
Use greek live yoghurt on clean finger, to vuvla every hour.

accidophillus probiotic is the long term answer, you have to rebalance the bacteria, but it has to be pure accidophillus, try holland and barrett.
Take with a gulp of milk, not water, start with 4 times daily spread throughout the day, drop back to twice as symptoms subside.

Drink 2 litres of water a day.
Cool shower not bath.
No soap
Cut out all sugar, eat clean, nothing processed, to help rebalance the gut bacteria.

You should start to feel better on Day 2

MiniJellyBeans · 02/08/2022 23:23

Sorry you're in such a lot of pain. Don't want to worry you any further, but the symptoms of herpes simplex can overlap with severe thrush, and thrush treatments will have no effect if it's herpes. If you can get through to your GP or whichever is your closest sexual health clinic tomorrow, and explain your symptoms just as you have in your post here, you may be more likely to be offered an urgent appt, rather than if you say you have thrush.

Northernlurker · 02/08/2022 23:27

I think it sounds more like a herpes outbreak too. Ring 111 for go advice.

moonlightbaby · 02/08/2022 23:37

So sorry you are going through this!

Why don't you go into your local pharmacy? They can always offer advice and the best cream/medicine to use

Annonnn · 02/08/2022 23:51

I checked out the herpes symptoms there just to see but I don't have any sores/scabs/ulcers, pain in the abdoman/lower back/legs or any feverish symptoms so I really don't think it is that, the only thing I have from the list of herpes symptoms are pain urinating (which I just managed to do with manageable pain by smothering the whole area in vagisil with lidocaine 😁😁) and burning/itching but I can mention it to whomever I can get in touch with tomorrow and see what they think. I've only been with my husband for the past 7 years so something like that never even crossed my mind 😅

I sent my mum to the local pharmacy first thing yesterday morning, it was them that prescribed me the fluconazole and gave me a bigger tube of 2% canesten

Branleuse · 02/08/2022 23:55

I think you should go to the doctor

stillvicarinatutu · 02/08/2022 23:57

Ask for gynodaktarin cream .

I used to have thrush all the time due to the pill - canestan resistant thrush.
Gynodaktarin kills 98% of all yeast infections.

Then ask for blood tests . And come off any hormone contraception.

Imnotaslimjim · 02/08/2022 23:58

I had this a few months ago. Eventually got hold of the nurse after a week of agony and they prescribed Daktarin. Symptoms were greatly reduced in less than 24 hours but had to use it for 2 weeks to make sure it was completely gone. Maybe try OOH, they might just prescribe over the phone, they do it a lot now.

QueenofDestruction · 03/08/2022 00:04

I have suffered from this for years when it gets bad like that. The only thing that work for me for some strange reason is a really hot bath. It relieves the itching and gives some relief. I also drink a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda dissolved in water,

Annonnn · 03/08/2022 00:08

I'll try drinking some bicarbonate of soda now and get some daktarin in the morning, or gynodaktarin if I can actually get ahold of a medical professional 😅

Call 111 - they can arrange an appointment at a GP Hub for you or a telephone appointment.

MsMarple · 03/08/2022 00:18

Ps this won’t be helpful now, but what eventually prevented it from recurring for me was cutting out sugar, and never ever wearing trousers or tights.

Greentomatoes21 · 03/08/2022 00:20

Maybe not helpful for right now when having a terrible flair up but you could consider probiotic tablets to increase the good bacteria in your system. I get them from the health food shop and ask for ones specifically for thrush related problems. X

Smoothsoul · 03/08/2022 00:23

I’ve had this too, recurring Thrush around period. One time I spoke with a different gp and was given bacterial vaginosis meds and it never came back for months. It was reoccurring monthly again about 10 months later and flucanozole didnt work. Went back to dr and got bv meds again and it cleared up.
