Hi everyone. I'm 48 and still nursing a two year old. This month my period pain has been SO PAINFUL I can't describe it. I feel nauseous and can't eat and standard ibuprofen aren't working . Could this be peri-menopause? I can't have periods like this it's knocked me sideways Confused

Hi Ami100, we're just bumping your thread in case anyone's around to give you a bit of advice and support.

Have you made a GP appointment? You can alternate ibuprofen with Cocodamol. And your GP may prescribe a stronger NSAI than ibuprofen, such as Mefenamic acid.

I had symptoms like that from 15, but your changes are the sort that can happen at peri. May be ask for this to be moved to the Menopause board.

My GP also prescribed codeine alone, @Ami100, as it’s the boy needed a few days per month.

Is it definitely a period? Not an ectopic or other medical problem?

Meaning you may be incorrectly attributing the pain to a period iyswim?

Buscopan can be quite effective alongside painkillers.

I get awful period pain and it has got worse as I've got older (44) I use feminax which is absolutely brilliant. Until I tried it I thought it couldn't be any better than ibuprofen or paracetamol but honestly it works a treat. Hope you find what works for you period pain is terrible.

It's best to see a gyno to rule out any underlying issues.

CBD oil works treat for period pain but make sure it's high quality and strength.

Hit post too soon! I didn't get bad period pain until I was in my 40s and peri. It's so bad it makes me nauseous. Probably just peri, but get checked out by a dr to put your mind at rest.

As JadeJeans writes its best indeed to see a gynaecologist.

Period pains like described are not normal nor should they be something that just has to be put up with. Endometriosis is a common cause of underlying and ongoing severe period pain. Its quite common and much underdiagnosed. Do not just use pills to treat it, find out what the cause is too.
