Are there any pills that don’t make you crazy?

I’ve tried two different pills since having dd2 and they really don’t seem to agree with me. I used to take dianette but can’t any more. Any recommendations?

What have you tried so far?

Itsbeen84yearss · 21/09/2021 21:29

Thanks for replying. Cerazette ( which they shouldn’t have given me because I have hormonal acne so my skin went bananas on it), gadarel ( doesn’t make skin any worse but doesn’t help either, bleed constantly on it and terrible mood swings). Feel really fed up tbh

I take cerelle and it's really agreed with me, it's actually helped calm my moods down and I don't get any bleeding at all which is great.

dementedpixie · 21/09/2021 21:38

Cerelle is the same as cerazette
Why can't you have dianette now?

SparkleMonster · 21/09/2021 21:43

I've had similar difficulties finding the right thing since DC were born. I can't take a combination pill because of an oestrogen sensitivity which causes vicious migraines, yet various progesterone only pills have caused lots of bleeding. I've had a mirena coil fitted today, having been assured that this will help with both issues. Fingers crossed!!

They said I’m too old (37). Risk of blood clots I think

Imo no sadly not. I have a copper coil now which is great but obviously long term.

How was the fitting? I’m a bit traumatised since having a hard birth with dd2. The idea of a coil just sets my teeth on edge

@Itsbeen84yearss unless you have high blood pressure, are very overweight or smoke then you can take the combined contraceptive until age 50. Do you have any of those risk factors?

No. I don’t. She said some combined pills were ok to take but not dianette

I'm not allowed combined pill any more since having DC because of my age and a history of high blood pressure (when I was pregnant). I've found that progesterone only contraception doesn't agree with me. I tried three different pills and the injection before I gave up completely. I also don't want the coil.

I really wanted to be sterilised after DS2 but was refused

dementedpixie · 21/09/2021 21:51

Eloine is supposed to help with acne I think (is a combined pill too)

It’s a bloody nightmare isn’t it? I’m so done with being a woman I really am

Honestly, pretty uncomfortable. But it was over quickly. I had to take a couple of doses of ibuprofen earlier today for cramping but it has all settled down now.

Flowers ah poor you. I like a hot water bottle for cramps too

I came off hormones after kids and never felt better. Condoms or a vasectomy is the way forward. You've done your bit let him do his.

BeautifulTulips · 21/09/2021 22:12

Desogrestrol works for me, it's a mini pill

SparkleMonster · 21/09/2021 22:13

I'd previously outright rejected having a coil - the thought of having a physical device really put me off. My first DC's birth was pretty traumatic too so I've shied away from further medical fiddling in my lady bits!

But having spent the last two years bleeding every few days, I have decided to give it a try. I'm right there with you - being a lady is sometimes a bit rubbish!

Noseylittlemoo · 21/09/2021 22:13

I take a mini pill/POP called desogestrel.
I have very light or no periods and no side effects. I was first prescribed it in my mid 30s and now early 40s.

I did try for 5 months of no pill but my periods were so painful I was struggling to walk on the first day or two of each cycle.

Desogestrel is the hormone in cerazette/cerelle, etc and the OP has already tried that
Fiddlersgreen · 21/09/2021 22:15

I’m the same age as you OP and dianette was the only pill I’ve taken which cleared my skin and didn’t feel like it messed with my head/body too much. Have also been told I can’t take it anymore. Currently on marvelon but not happy with it

dementedpixie · 21/09/2021 22:15

I had the mirena coil. Insertion was uncomfortable rather than painful. I took pain killers beforehand to help. It stopped my periods for a few years

HerRoyalNotness · 21/09/2021 22:19

I’m in the Us and take one called daysee

It has levonorgestrel) and (ethinyl estradiol). It helped stop me being crazy tbh. Which is why my ob/gyn prescribed it, each pack is 3 mths so the other bonus is only 4 periods a year

Rose916 · 21/09/2021 22:19

I remember being obsessed with trying out different pills and analysing how I felt and certain side effects and symptoms. Then I realised why bother putting yourself through it. So I came off and went to the rhythm method. Felt much more empowered that way. But obviously this is not for everyone. I'd never go back to the pill!

But in answer to your question, probably the best one was microgynon for keeping my moods stabilised. But it also had the effect of knocking out any libido I had!
